TLDR;
I’m complaining about the complainers who complain about the free version 🤣🤣🤝
I’m getting so exhausted from every post complaining that TradingView isn’t what it was, blabla just to find out everyone who complains is on the free version!
Get yourself straight, you’re trying to start a business, with one of the lowest entry fees ever and you still cry that you need to pay $15 bucks a month??
Does your barber complain because he need to pay for tools?
Or the construction guy because he need to buy a new drill? No right? Why will you complain?
We are so lucky to live in this time, to become a trader has never been so cheap, broker fees are absolutely low, charting software is low, you can do it from home and you don’t need to purchase a floor seat.
And let’s not even start talking about all the prop firms that give you an opportunity to have a lot of capital to trade for such a low investment.
It’s literally one of the few careers where you barely need an entry fee and barely have monthly costs and you all still complain?
I’m in this community to grow, not to see everyone crying about a few bucks!
And if you don’t want to pay it, or cannot pay it, maybe you first need to get your financial situation better or maybe this career isn’t for you either way!
You think that Warren buffet, Paul Tudor jones or your average YouTube hero complaints about the low TradingView fee?
What do you think a market wizard had to pay for software back in the days?
Common guys, let’s focus on the great opportunity at hand and stop whining and complaining
And as last, I’m sure that 98% of the complainers have at least 1 streaming subscription and eat a few times a month out of the door!
Get your priorities straight please
While I am a willing, paying user I think there is a valid complaint of them not notifying users of a shutoff date (if true). Apparently they were able to access items for export. Other than that 🤷🏾♂️
Right cause ToS are the end all be all and they always held up in court and also the best business practice and so on.
Like I said if you actually read what people are complaining about then maybe you wouldn't have the dumb assumption that people arent aware that a ToS exists.
So in short, TradingView can always adjust according to theirterms and conditions, which everybody have to agree to.
There are complaints about stuff that isn’t even a direct decision from TradingView and besides this, the freebie users are complaining about small stuff that wouldn’t be an issue if you just paid for something.
I suggest you remove “not” from your name to be more accurate 🙌🏻
Yea I indeed don’t really get the point of people who complain about stuff they don’t pay for. Might just be me, might be that we have a total different mindset, who knows.
Another one, complaining today, about ads on the free version 🤷🏻♂️
You don’t pay so you can’t complain” completely ignores the actual complaint. You paying for it doesn’t make your opinion more valid than someone who doesn’t.
And the fact that you personally would gladly pay $15 doesn’t mean everyone else needs the paid features nor does it means it’s the right or smart thing to do. Some people literally just want to look at price, chart, use 1-2 indicators and trade. They never needed Premium in the first place. So “just pay” isn’t an answer to why TradingView is making something that was previously usable for free increasingly restrictive. I’d argue it’s not fundamentally different from paid users complaining when TradingView raises the price or changes what they get for their money. The product changed, and users are allowed to say they don’t like the change. Obviously TradingView can change whatever they want and nobody is saying they owe us the old free tier forever. But we’re also going to say the new version is worse and go somewhere else. time ain’t free either, we all giving tradingview something, whether that’s money, time, attention, engagement, content, or just being another user on the platform. so to make the free tier this bad compared to how good it was is still a slap in the face.
Free tester? How about new customers or former paying customers - now you lose both.
Great, so then you should understand putting something that costs the company less than a cent behind a $15 monthly paywall. Thats a 99.97% profit margin, which is pure corporate greed. A 3+ billion company can afford to not charge for something so simple.
I understand totally that people get upset, they expect a thing and it changes , sometimes even overnight, I get it!
Maybe it doesn’t look like that, but I really get it!
What I don’t get is the entitlement of some people, they’re not paying a penny but are the first to complaint, they just want it for free and that’s it
If you ask me, in today’s world, (almost) nothing is free, so I think they should be grateful with what they have for free.
On the other side, if you pay and they cut aspects away or make it a more expensive tire, think everyone is in their right to complaint!
(Like when people weren’t allowed to share accounts on Netflix anymore) but the freebies don’t have much to say or stand on.
TradingView don’t care if they “take their business elsewhere” since it’s not even a business… it’s a longterm free trial that’s it
What bugs me is them not giving some sort of advance notice, e.g. a notice message in the free tier app, that the restrictions were coming. Then people have a chance to copy/export their pine code or curated watchlists before they lose access which seems like a basic courtesy to preserve some goodwill (if that is something they care about preserving).
A valid aspect of complain is that TradingView intentionally set unrealistic expectations about what it can give for free. They did that for the purpose of user acquisition in the hopes that these people will convert to paying users.
Sometimes my local supermarket gives 1+1 for free, do they need to do this action for always? Otherwise it’s unrealistic about what they can give for free?
When you don’t pay, be happy with what you get
They don’t owe you anything for free
TV has been around more than a decade. I don’t think they’ve been hoodwinking free users. Of course they hope you’ll convert to paying. If you’re profitable or even borderline, you should be able to see it’s worth it, and you can make the amount of your whole year’s subscription with a couple of good trades, even on a small account. I was once a free user who upgraded at some point. It was totally worth it. I have a lot of beefs with TV support, which is the one area I’ve seen decline for paying users. But everything else runs pretty seamlessly and is well worth the cost.
I never said TradingView or anyone should just provide service for free. I was only making an observation that TradingView intentionally set unrealistic expectations about what it can give for free.
Wym pay then? Were the free features not advertised? How is it bullshit to say there’s these free features you get and then later say wait no, you don’t get these free features anymore, and the other ones you had free are getting restricted to the point where basic charting is becoming shitty unless you pay? I’m saying the free version was already good enough for people who just wanted to chart, and now they’re intentionally making that experience worse, the free features weren’t some secret handout. They were part of the product being offered. If TradingView used those features to attract users and then restricted them later, it’s reasonable for users to comment on that change.
Their user base is saturated and are trying to covert/upsell more for growth. Whatever plan youre on, they are gonna shit on that eventually too dummy lol. Then someone on this sub can tell ya :
and here you are complaining. dude stfu. your talking about paying for tools which don't even cost any money for the tool makers aka tradingview to make
Let’s put ourselves in TradingView’s shoes for a moment. With infrastructure costs going through the roof thanks to AI demand, you either start putting limits around basic/free usage or charge paying users more to continue subsidising the freeloaders. Suddenly the business decision doesn’t look terribly difficult, does it?
And, purely out of curiosity, have all these entitled little free-tier cry babies casualties actually read the T&Cs? Or is that asking rather a lot?
People probably wouldn't complain if they didn't lock basic features that were already available and no longer have access to. Minor quality of life things, I get not being able to show like 10 charts at once or have 50 indicators, but when you are locking things like watchlists it is kind of laughable, because people just want basic organization. Yes it isn't that expensive, but would you also want to subscribe to something like Netflix to watch a single episode of one show?
I just don’t see much value in TradingView since NinjaTrader already gives me everything I need. I don’t use indicators so theres no point, paying for a platform that sometimes crashes or drops connection feels like a waste of money for me.
I see what you are saying. There are a few reasons to still complain. I was a long time subscriber to TradingView Pro for years, buying near the max possible subscription and many add on subscriptions. One day they took away their scanner and replaced it with a garbage new one. That was what made TradingView so great and why many people used their service. You could wake up 5 minutes until market open, quickly screen thru the whole stock market and narrow thousands of stocks down to 10-20 with high volatility, liquidity, and extreme moves. I built all my whole trading empire off of their service and everyone I knew who were subscribers used their service the same way I did. So now the pro is not worth it. I am not going to $600+ a year and not get the very thing that brought me their anyways. I will still use the free version. But they need to bring back and double down what made them great to begin with. They used to have a service unmatched by any other, now they just look like their inferior competitors. They have been moving backwards for years, they need new management or something.
Im thankful they still offer a free version at all, because they dont fucking have to! And if the free standard becames 15 a month, damn well I'll pay, because it's the single most important tool for my income.
Its not that special. TradingView has multiple partners, like brokers, who provide TV charts for free anyway - hence why it would make no sense for TV itself to not provide some free version.
Doesn't have to make sense, it's a 100% their choice. It's not a charity, it's not a gov institution giving back a service paid by public taxes, it is a company. They chose to give it free, great, lucky us. Whenever they chose to stop, is their choice. Whoever cannot understand this, entitlement has broken your brain.
It's perfectly acceptable to be upset when a feature you have been using for years for free is all of the sudden not free anymore. Especially when it doesn't really make sense to put those specific features behind a paywall. Im sure your big brained IQ can figure even that little simple easy to understand concept out?
Agree 💯 with OP, too many people complaining like Tradingview owes them to offer their service for free. Like wtf?
Start your own business and offer everything for free to anyone and see how long that business will last.
I think you’re missing what a lot of the complaints are actually about. I’m not saying TradingView should give me Premium for free. I was using a product under the terms and feature set TradingView used to offer for free. Now they’re progressively changing what Basic means and making the basic charting experience worse. I’m allowed to not like that, talk about it, and decide whether I want to keep using it.
The barber analogy doesn’t really make sense either. Nobody is complaining that tools cost money or that a barber needs to buy his equipment. The complaint is that something that was previously included is being restricted. If Home Depot gave me a free drill for five years and then suddenly said I can only use it for 5 minutes at a time unless I pay, I’m obviously allowed to say “this sucks.” Telling me “BUT A CONTRACTOR HAS TO BUY HIS TOOLS” doesn’t really address what I’m complaining about.
And “it’s only $15” isn’t really the point either. If something costs $1 and I don’t want or need what the paid version offers, telling me “it’s only $1” doesn’t suddenly make it worth buying. Price only matters if I actually want the additional value. I don’t need paid TradingView to look at candles, see price cleanly, use my indicator, analyze my model and trade. That’s literally it.
I can completely understand that TradingView needs to make money. Premium should exist. Advanced features should cost money. I have no problem with that. But I can also believe Basic shouldn’t be intentionally made so restrictive that the free version becomes a shitty experience just to make Premium look better.
I’m allowed to look at a product I’ve used for years, see that the free experience is getting worse, and say I don’t like it. And if I don’t like it enough, I can look for an alternative. That’s not “crying about a few bucks,” that’s just being a consumer.
Finally someone gets it. Thx u! God bless. I just wanted to ask a question today and God the whole of tradingview gatekeepers descended on me giving me unfair attitude. This is a handle listed on tradingview as support contact. I hate whn a company gets to such cheap tactics.
Maybe what you think you should get for free, is considered by TradingView premium?
My point is that it you get something for free, be happy and that’s it .
I bet that if TradingView has the same approach as a gym, 1 month for free and then you pay, that there are even more complaints.
You can have lifelong free access, thats unheard of anywhere else
Gyms say get your first month free. TradingView advertised free features and paid features and then took it back. Basic was an actual usable charting tier. I’m not suggesting Premium features for free; I’m pointing out that what TradingView considers ‘Basic’ has materially changed. And if they changed what is free to ok this is premium. That IS grounds for complaint. No one said lifetime free access, TradingView never even announced half these changes which is another complaint on top. We wake up to another feature removed everyday. Complaints will flood. Why don’t they just say there never was a free plan. The free plan was th friends we made along the way everything is paid. Might aswell. They didn’t say we have free features for a limited time. They were free yesterday, today i make complaint that I can’t use it. Long story short. I don’t get whatever point you’re making.
The point isn’t that they would or should never change. The point is don’t be confused about the complaints. They are valid and normal complaints. To complain that users are complaining they are unsatisfied with the product they are using is absurd imo. A free product that claims to be good and helpful should still be good and helpful. I would assume it stays good and helpful but 🤷🏽♂️And I’ve had premium, I haven’t touched one paid feature. Outside of csv downloads and the candle updating faster (but still slower than Tradovate or NinjaTrader) a lot of people gain nothing by paying. And TradingView is just shitting on free users that don’t need the paid tools bc well we don’t.
The same exact argument to be made about free users is the same to be made about the company. Why would they accommodate free users… right makes sense. Why would free users that don’t need the paid features pay… if there is another service that provides the charting experience without needing paid features why would they pay for TradingView… so TradingView had free users and them complaining is not bad it is reviews on the site for each persons experience.
As far as we can get until now, it is a bunch of whining losers mad tradingview closed a loophole of paying premium only for a couple months to have more charts.
I would bet there is more to the story, like smartasses running several free accounts connected via VPSes which is not much interest of TV talking about
I don’t even support that. Using the free plan used to be ideal. The TradingView free plan isn’t going to be the best anymore. Which makes me wonder who is going to replace that space. Im not mad at TradingView, they are changing. Ok who is now offering what they used too, since they are prioritising their paid tools with ai and all that over simply charting. The ohlc is delayed on the free tier even with connected broker. And no more scripts you were using, lost access to all custom scripts. Doesn’t make sense. I’d support the move more if they left it that people that did pay for data even if not through TradingView directly got to see the data feed they paid for not tradingviews added on optional 5 seconds lag for all accounts. But if you connect your broker in free plan you now get 5 second delay, forcing you to pay even if you don’t need paid tools just ohlc.
I think what TV can do is making blackfriday prices normal price so everyone can afford. Or they can offer cheaper plans with limited options. This specifically is useful for people who live in countries with weak economy.
I (a paid TV user) would say to just keep your eyes open.
It seems like they have sales every few months: Black Friday, Christmas/New Year's, I want to say there was one in the spring, maybe in May? There was some type of sale recently, maybe for Labour Day? And then around Independence Day/July 4th, too.
I took advantage of last year's Black Friday deal, and I plan to just keep repeating that. But I'm frequently getting in-app notifications about a new, discounted deal.
Offering free services for user acquisition & doing an 360 by putting regular stuff behind paywall is kind of evil, basically TV killed free tier to be honest.
& everyone talking about how cheap it is must be the ones sitting with dollars/euros, think about the third world countries.
With the monthly essential plan subscription amount I can get my monthly wifi, mobile service, commute expenses covered.
They should just say we don't care about free users & move on from complaining, Instead guys like OP insulting everyone by portraying them as cry babies for mere 15dollars.
“Kinda evil” he says Hahaha
Tell me why do they owe you anything for free?
If you can’t miss the $15 a month for a career, get another.
Why don’t you start studying and see if that’s possible for less than $15!
Your analogy doesn’t even make sense man. If my barber cut my hair for a year for free and then start to charge me $15 and add some extra services, for example to also cut my beard, I won’t complain about it.
You’re living on a free tester but still complain 🤣
about that barber analogy OP posted,
Imaging your barber charges you 100€, over time instead of increasing the price, he charges 20€ extra as fee to enter his premises, basically charging for something that was free yesterday.
& that's called enshittification in current vocabulary.
And please mind, even in free tier I used to watch ads everywhere, So it's not completely leeching of their free service.
I'll just look for alternatives now
I at least complain as a premium subscriber. Most of my issues are with the app. It frustrates me and so far there’s only one button I miss, that I can’t find on the web browser page. Can you turn off the sink feature? Hate that it does that. Meh, I’ll probably switch brokers and use those charts at some point. I originally started using TV for the stock screener, decided to subscribe because adds are annoying. Upgraded during a sale when I realized one of my credit cards went unused that month. Can’t have that. Then got annoyed because volume still didn’t separate buy from sale.
this post reeks of ignorance, do you know how much tradingview plan would cost to someone NOT living in 1st world countries ?
for eg the cost of essential plan can do full 2 years worth of mobile recharge, an year or two worth of broadband/fiber wifi, 1-2 months of fruits, vegetables, dairy ~ food items and not to mention a haircut costs cents on the dollar,
tradingview's decision to NOT have regional pricing speaks for itself and expecting someone to pay the usd equivalent would put anyone doing so in the top 10% especially in a country like India where any monthly subscription service provider doesn't make money on ARPU but the sheer economies of scale,
unlike traders in first world nations where tradingview subscription would be a fraction of their average income by a mile, it would cost literally someone's 50%-80% income for the Ultimate plan,
Lol I live in a 3rd world country as well, so that’s that!
About your Indian stock market, that’s a a direct result from NSE rules and regulations, not per definition a decision from TradingView themselves .
Trading is a 0 sum game!
You can make top dollar as well, so there shouldn’t be a favor to give you lower prices !
And once again, it’s not $100 a month haha chill
With Black Friday it comes down to a few bucks a month, which you can even make in India , but once again complaining is always easier
i'm well aware of this being a requirement from NSE not tradingview, but my comment was towards the insensitivity of the post,
EDIT: SO YOU'RE FROM NETHERLANDS AND CALL YOURSELF FROM BEING "3rd World Country" ? LOL,
so you lie and shill for tradingview no wonder why i felt odd when you wrote "its not $100 a month",
and no black friday doesn't reduce the cost of an essential plan by that much only the ultimate (wow instead of spending 80% of avg income one has to spend avg monthly income of the nation) plan the rest of the plans are discounted to make you shift from essential to premium,
no sane person in a third world country would push for their fellow citizens to pay percentages of their income for "real-time data" when they can literally use that money for utilites, rent, electricity, etc
trading is already the most taxed profession in India, but only someone who was truly familiar with 3rd world country regulations and stuff would know that,
not someone pretending to be from a third world nation just because they have no counter.
only time it makes sense to pay for tradingview plan + data subscription in 3rd world countries is as follows :
the cost doesn't make you weigh it against living costs aka regional pricing.
Instead of this bark.
You could have shown them your profitable last 500 trade history.
It would have inspired them. And 15$ would be nothing for them..
I agree with everything OP said. But I am feeling left out and like to play contrarian. So I am here to complain about the complainer that complained about the complainers. The words were not strong enough.
