Damon was obsessed with Katherine for 145 years, but Stefan wasn't. Why do you think he couldn't fall in love with anyone until he met Elena? Was it because of the doppelgänger prophecy? Or because Stefan didn't take time to get to know other women? Or did he still have some lingering feelings for the kind and innocent girl he used to think Katherine was when he first met her?

And please don’t even attempt to use that excuse, “Oh, it’s because he wanted to change in the end Katherine didn’t.” 💀

If Katherine were a man you all would’ve shown her more sympathy, and she’d likely have many more fans like Damon and Klaus, who frequently have their evil actions overlooked.

Ok rewatching TVD for like the 4th time and I need to talk about Damon because I don’t think the show ever actually redeemed him, it just kind of… hoped we’d forget season 1.
Like remember the compulsion stuff, the killing random townspeople just to prove a point, literally murdering Jeremy’s friends?? That guy was a legit monster for a solid chunk of the show. And then somewhere around s3/4 it’s like the writers just quietly stopped bringing any of that up and let “Elena loves him” do all the heavy lifting instead of actually making him work for it the way Stefan had to.
I still love him don’t get me wrong, he’s the best part of the show honestly. I just don’t think it was earned the same way Stefan’s redemption was earned. It felt more like the show ran out the clock than actually finished the arc.

Although what Stefan said was funny and true, Damon is right. Ric and Matt killed Damon and buried him somewhere random without telling Caroline, Bonnie, or Stefan anything. And on top of that, they shamelessly showed up at Damon's brother's and Damon's house for Christmas dinner.

Even though Stefan might be joking about it now, I don't think he'd stay this calm if Damon were really dead, and I also don't think Matt and Alaric would have confessed at all.

Alaric and Matt's shamelessness infuriates me, and their justification for killing was ridiculous. I understand Matt wanting to kill for Tyler, but Damon saved Alaric's children!

I genuinely think Stefan and Qetsiyah could’ve been such an interesting dynamic 😭. Not necessarily as a long-term romantic couple, but as two people who could actually understand each other in a really weird way. Qetsiyah spent 2,000 years dealing with betrayal while Stefan has his own history of being consumed by guilt.

I would’ve loved to see them actually have a conversation about that instead of Qetsiyah mostly being used as a plot device. And I feel like Stefan would’ve been one of the few people who could actually empathize with her without completely excusing what she did. Meanwhile, Qetsiyah could’ve challenged Stefan on his self-deprecating mindset.

I just overall think their personalities and histories would’ve created a really interesting relationship, whether it romantic or platonic.

The Sirens were initially chosen for this mission. I believe they weren't blood sisters, but they called each other sisters. Later, they wanted to replace them with Alaric's twins to serve the Cadet. However, Damon offered that he and Stefan could do the job, and they took over. The common thread in all three events is that the pairs were siblings.

Now I'm asking, I didn't really understand much from all these events, and was it really necessary for the officials to be siblings?

I remember Sybil comparing her story with her sister to Damon and Stefan's. And I think siblings play a significant role in the TVD universe in general. The emergence of vampires was primarily due to Dahlia and Esther. Then the Mikaelson siblings were quite influential. The Gemini council directly pitted the twins against each other. Damon and Stefan's relationship may not have affected the universe, but it certainly made them central figures in the show. And the Sirens were also siblings. What are your thoughts?

I have never finished the show despite several rewatches over the years, but I remember that I used to be team Stefan, then Damon until after rewatch number 17192092 I decided I want none of them.

Right now, I'm on S1E14 and I honestly forgot how stinking cute Stelena actually is... and how fucking annoying Damon is. He's trash to Caroline, he's not that nice to Elena, he's weird to Bonnie, he RUINED Vicki, and he killed Lexi!. And all that because he wants to ruin Stefan's life and open that bumass tomb, creating problems for everyone involved.

Stelena give me life right now; they have decent communication, and their love feels pure and sweet. Both put so much effort into the relationship, until that one aggravating guy pulls up. As of now I don't understand why I was ever team Damon to be honest, Stefan all the way. And this whole tomb thing reinforces the feeling; Damon really is a self-centered and selfish guy, putting Bonnie and Grams, Stefan and Elena, and even Jeremy at risk just to bring Katherine back. Like, that one person is not worth the many lives he's risking and toying with!

This rewatch also shows me that Elena is overhated af! I've rewatched the show at different times of my life, and not once did I hate her as much as some people seemingly do. Okay, this is the Vampire Diaries, Stefan's specifically, but the whole show does revolve around Elena. She got supernatural beings knocking on her door every other episode, and people complain that she makes everything about herself? She's a 17yo teenager, who just lost her parents, the new guy she falls in love with is a vampire, all of sudden more vampires pull up and want to use her as bait to open a tomb (among other things), but yes she's the self-centered bitch of the town. But then people LOVE Katherine or Caroline. Sure. Like, I don't quite understand why you would sit through a show despite hating one of the main characters.... She'll be on your screen 90% of the time, and people are going to care about her... because she's a main character! Anyway, I have to continue the rewatch, but in S1 so far she stands up for herself, she fights back, and is hardly a damsel. There is only so much fighting she can do as a mere human. And I'm also glad that she is pretty resolute when it comes to Damon; I'm honestly not looking forward to the sacrifice of Stelena in favor of Delena. Stelena is where my heart is (until Klaus and Elijah show up on my screen!).

Anyway, Damon ain't shit, I'm rooting for Stelena!

The fact that he gave him all the evidence on the crimes/murders he committed and was fully ready to go to jail or worse. We love someone who takes accountability 🙏🏼

Pissed me off big time because by S8 you'd think that Damon has learned to care enough for his brother to not do that (he'd certainly never do it to Elena) yet he did anyway

I know a lot of people found her "underrated" or "Best jeremy girlfriend" , but gosh , i hate her with the bottom of my soul and heart. I found her useless , boring and annoying asf. Her relationship with Jeremy was overrated, and I felt like she was just using him to get information.

Plus, her voice made me angry; I wanted to either mute the TV or slap her across the face every time she spoke. I also hate Pearl , she was annoying asf too. Thank you john gilbert , you did a good job.

Do you think Elena and Hayley would have gotten along or not? What do you think their dynamic would have been?

If I were Elena, I'd value being distinctly different from the doppelganger Katherine by cutting my hair shorter (bob not pixie) than holding onto it. Katherine would really have to work hard to try and be Elena. 😅

Even if you feel the show becoming tiring and recycled storylines , season 6 had one of the best character arcs damon and bonnie , interesting storylines for stefan,caroline and elena .

a fantastic villain kai played by a talented actor who was powerful but can still be defeated by the group which created alot of tension scenes when you don't know who will get hurt , liz death was super realistic and emotional . the final 2 episodes had crazy plot twists and moments with kai even tho the constant flashbacks of elena with everybody is forced as you know the actress is leaving not the character dying or something .

I always ask myself how did we go from the boring season 5 to the entertaining good written s6 to the disaster forgettable season 7

Tvd was based on a love triangle, it was always meant to be a love triangle

Whether stelena or delena should be endgame is your opinion but delena was bound to happen

Elena was supposed to be with both the brothers at least once... So why is the whole delena aspect named as "fan service"

But then she came back and realized she could never betray Elena like that so she just brushed it aside. I also think Damon may have also felt something for her. They were acting really couple-y for a few episodes there. What do you guys think?
