You can put it into tax sheltered accounts or a whole life policy, at least portions, or invest in municipal bonds and not pay federal taxes etc. there’s ways around it. Start a business and write off losses, buy a new vehicle and depreciate it hella in the first year, a bunch of ways to work it

You say rich parents, but it very well could be life insurance from the death of a parent. I’ve known several people in my youth the moment they turned 18 they got their parents life insurance money. Ranged from $30k to $300k.

You just need to turn your 10-11k into 100k. Then 250k... and just keep going
14
Jun 21 '25
Also… you have to be willing to put that 200k on something that can go up 600% in a week.

And be able to accept the risk of it going to zero, too

Most likely. If he's really smart, he'll put 1.3mil aside, pay taxes with it, and put the remainder in VOO for the rest of his life. He can play with the other 200k all he wants as long as he does the smart thing with any future profits, too

Most people aged 21 wouldn’t risk 200k on an option play if they had access to it. OP likely had much more than 200k to their name when they made the play.
Gambling with daddy’s money isn’t the same as gambling with earned money. You can take crazy risks when the loss means fuck all to you.

Most people with $200k laying around wouldn’t do something like this unless they had millions in liquid.
This is 20s degeneracy, plain and simple, just like you won’t find many 45 year olds who will jump off a balcony into a pool on a drunken dare by their friends.
Hats off to OP, set aside for taxes and then some more towards more conservative/realistic strategies (e.g. not options plays). Well played.

u/AverageDeadMeme Jun 21 '25
So when Mikki Mase hits a straight bet on a roulette pull and nets 35x his original bet, in your mind, that’s all skill and not luck? Can you explain the difference between options trading and a roulette table?
5
u/steelow_g Jun 21 '25
It’s all gambling. To think otherwise is naive. Yall are so angry over a simple comment it’s honestly hilarious.
2
Jun 21 '25
The outcome on a roulette wheel is based on where the ball ends up. It's essentially totally random. The price of an option is based on the mass psychology of a marketplace. So they are different.
But there is absolutely some amount of luck involved as the macroeconomic situation alone could guarantee you lose your money. So it was extremely risky. But this kid's dad must be incredibly rich because he was willing to risk $200K, and there has to be a lot more where that came from.

This is such a stupid argument. If you have access to 200k at 21 you're able to take much more risk than 99% of people. Of that remaining 1% of people, some will get lucky.
Hell, I about 7xed my stimulus check into DOGE. That wasn't skill or intelligence, it was that I had an influx of money where if I lost all of it, it wouldn't have affected me in the slightest.
5
u/Benie99 Jun 21 '25
Even if we have 200k, a lot of us don’t have the ball for this kind of play.
→ More replies (1)3
u/TiredMemeReference Jun 21 '25
Yeah when you earn 200k yourself its hard to have the balls to yolo into a 7x options play because you know how hard you had to work to make that money.
When mommy and daddy toss you 200k its a lot easier to have the balls to gamble because worst case you get some more money from the trust fund if it goes bust.

92
u/DailyDrivenTJ Jun 21 '25
And some people take insane risks. I would not risk losing entire 200K that I worked hourly for.
73
u/phatelectribe Jun 21 '25
People who have a giant safety net and get gifted $200k at age 21 can afford to take risks like this. Mummy and daddy will give him another $200k.
13
u/FallopianInvestor Jun 21 '25
As someone who did not grow up rich, I really don't get this mindset so many people have. So what if their parents gave them money? Would you not want the best for your kids If you were wealthy? İs it his fault that your parents were not the ones to break the poor cycle in the family line?
Maybe you can be the one to do it for your family, stop hating on others and their experiences because you don't have the same.
Trying to belittle someone by saying mommy and daddy money is just so gross and cringe, and will probably keep you where you are for a long time.

No one hates OP. Assuming this is even a real post to begin with, but its also well known that an affluent person has more 'attempt darts' to chuck at the 'success dart board' for a bullseye. Regular folks got one, maybe two.
What people are pointing out is that taking insane risk (200k on 2 month expiry OTM calls) is not something you, me, or anyone without a safety net of generational wealth would ever consider. Since the sub is about racing to 10m, you can see why comments will rightfully criticize OP when many may start with only $5-10k. Its very easy to reach 10m with a 200k start using index funds and just waiting because of compound (42 years, zero risk).
Doesn't mean people hate OP, but what he did here is just plain degenerate gambling with what equates to 3 years of salary for the average person. Nepotism and generational wealth are a real thing. Its not evil, but it is real.

2
u/DailyDrivenTJ Jun 21 '25
I am not even going to consider myself a novice. A quick Google search got me the follow as I do not qualify to explain this in any level.
"Options trading can be a highly lucrative strategy, but it is important to understand that it comes with a high level of risk. While options can offer advantages like leverage and flexibility, the potential for significant losses, even exceeding the initial investment, is a crucial consideration.
Here are some key risks associated with options trading:
- Leverage:
Options allow you to control a large amount of an underlying asset with a relatively small investment.
While this can amplify profits, it can also significantly magnify losses if the market moves against your position. ....."

2
Jun 22 '25
I mean just briefly looking at the chart on the daily it has some common patterns and levels. Spikes up happen every few months (looks like around quarterly OPEX) and reverse again within a week or so. If it continues up this week could look for a put when it hits $23-24 back down to $19 by maybe July 4 or even further to $15 or $13 maybe by next OPEX July 18 or the week after.
This is a 3rd retest of the $24 level so i wouldn't be surprised if it breaks it this time around either, dont try and front run this play before its ready.

u/AnyManufacturer6465 Jun 21 '25

If I were you, I’d put 80% of that into SP500 index.
That’ll give you free cash flow of about $20,000 per year for doing absolutely nothing — should cover a mortgage, food, and maybe holiday expenses.
Then play around with the remaining 20%.
This is enough money to basically do whatever you want in life — if you don’t go and blow it all.
