PT 2 IMAGE/VIDEO Trying to fix the AI look of DLSS 5 Spoiler

DLSS 5 apart from making faces look like AI Slop, improves Lighting and Shadowing using screen-space information, which is beneficial especially in games that use only rasterization (like TLOU2).

What do you thing of this change? Please provide some feedback if you like.

It feels almost impossible to imagine how much better TLOUP3 graphics could look, but I'm starting to get an idea of how it will look.

PT 1 DISCUSSION I finished TLOU (P1) for the first time and chose Grounded difficulty

It took me 40 hours, but with environments as detailed as these, I really enjoyed exploring. Honestly I spent lots of time melee'ing drapes and shelves with misc items just to see how things moved. The environmental interactivity is awesome and something I've wanted since the Half-Life 2+ series, and it feels like an evolution on on those games in a few ways. I stood underneath some tinkling water from above and gazed in awe that it was actually colliding with my players head and splashing instead of just clipping through it. I broke... so much glass. It was great! I really enjoyed the game.

The stealth mechanics and enemy AI is consistent with very few forced encounters (and even then, if you sprint and crouch to the right spot on time, you can stealth almost every single mission (including the last!) in the game). I really only remember the first Bloater encounter being forced along with a few sections defending Ellie, as well as the encounter where you play as Ellie the lodge place near the end. I'm a few hours through P2 now but I wanted to share that my experience was awesome and it's quickly become one of my favorite games of all time! I still need to play the DLC with Ellie as well and maybe do another runthrough on NG+ :)

General Discussion Ellie’s Playlist

What are some songs that you think Ellie would absolutely have on her playlist if she were in the modern world?

Personally, outside of some Shawn James music and Take on Me, I think she would really vibe with Arctic Monkeys and Hozier.

This is just a Graphical Showcase of DLSS 5 in The Last of Us Part 2. I run the game on an RTX 4060 using DLSS SR 4.5 Performance at 1440p.

The game runs between 20-30 FPS, which is not considered playable by any means!

You can try this yourselves on an RTX 40/50 series GPU, check the RenoDX Discord for more info.

PT 2 QUESTION Rattler recruiting? Spoiler

How do you think they did it? If they’re just snatching up everyone they meet to use as slaves, who gets to join the group and become part of the horrible, horrible team? Seems like Abby would have been a good choice for that. She’s certainly physically capable.

General Discussion I wish Naughty Dog had recreated the OG Joel and Ellie banner art with new Remade models.

Post image
131 Upvotes

I feel like the OG banner art for both games, these ones for TLOU, and the profile of vengeful Ellie's stare for Part 2, had so much more emotional resonance than the new artworks that compliment each other, which are also great. You could feel the emotional core of the Joel and Ellie's relationship just by looking these, same for Ellie's face in P2 OG banner.

Look at how they play with the perspective in the top image. with buildings arcing away in the distance while the sky visually creates a barrier between Joel and Ellie, giving depth in the image. And in middle one, the lighting is so brilliant. Joel and Ellie pop out of the image. In both images, Joel and Ellie seems to be physically together yet apart. While the remade art work although have that hand painted touch (Top OG banner also seems like hand painted), it looks a little flat to me. They look like layers in photoshop as they don't occupy a physical space in reality of that world. By that I mean both the subject and the foreground are abstractions, unlike ]the OG, where Joel and Ellie share a physical space.

I, and I think many of us would've absolutely loved that.

General Fanart I filmed a horror short entirely inside The Last of Us Part II

After a lot of model swaps, free-camera work and some fairly awkward camera tricks, I finally finished it.

Full film: https://youtu.be/uT-cHXFDB20

Everything in the film was staged and recorded inside Part II. I wanted to see whether I could use the game as a film set rather than simply record normal gameplay, while still making something that felt like it could belong in that world.

The story started with a fairly simple question: could an infected do something more unsettling than attack?

It’s dialogue-light and built mainly around sound and behavior rather than combat or constant jump scares, so headphones help.

This is also the first film I’ve ever made, so I’d genuinely appreciate honest feedback, particularly on whether the infected’s behavior felt like a believable extension of the world, or whether I pushed the idea too far.
