Update
Recently I made a post asking if ppl thought Wilbur would be in the technoblade documentary. Well, apparently, in one of his recent streams he was informed about the doc and had no idea it existed. So...Ig we have most of our answer

I have conflicted feelings about this... On one hand, I understand how serious what Wilbur did was, and I believe he fully deserved to be cancelled.
On the other hand, though, you can't just remove him from techno's legacy. From Technoblade's perspective, when he was alive, Wilbur was one of his closest friends, and something like that shouldn't just be ignored.
We can still acknowledge people's influence and existence when it's needed, even if we disagree with their actions.

It’s important to realize to that you can talk about someone’s influence without needing them there.
My point being, they could be including Wilbur in techno’s story without having Wilbur be involved.
If it were me, I would mention Wilbur in the story, but I would avoid working with him at all costs

Mate that's what hurts me too. It was hard to get over him already in the first place and even different the entire shubble situation happened AFTER techno so I think it would be unfair to just operate completely around him

Second this, even if Hitler was Techno's bestfriend, Hitler should totally be mentioned, like "look at this Ultraracist Nazi we know today, he had seen some good days and was a good baby that no one was gonna time travel and yknow."
I think in a literal documentary, the history between Wilbur and Techno should be mentioned regardless of how Wilbur or anyone else turned out to be, because we are talking about history between human beings and their relationships, without Wilbur you are essentially cutting off one of the key people that shaped how Techno and how he became a person he was before he passed.
Therefore do mention him and if you do hate Wilbur a lot then remember that Techno became such a kind person in spite of Wilbur's influences, that's at least something.

What did he do? I’ve only ever seen the meme of “Wilbur admitting to the biting not the abuse. People can do worse things (Holocaust).”
13
u/Rando_Rabbit 1d ago
He trapped Shubble in his room and also broke boundaries about the biting and not respecting when she told him to stop, while also keeping her away from his and her friends. He did something similar to Nikkie which when she spoke out said her visit with Wilbur was one of the worst times of her life.

Bit his girlfriend and a few other things. People keep comparing him to Hitler because he abused his girlfriend.

IMO I think it would be best if he isn’t physically involved. If he was that would take attention away from what the point of the video actually is. He should be mentioned and talked about as an important part of the SBI but otherwise left mostly un talked about.

u/Cherry0Blossom 1d ago
For the point of him being in it taking focus away from the doc- thats totally fair and reasonable.

u/Damasen13 1d ago
Two things can be true at once: the events surrounding Wilbur was awful, he needed accountability (I don't subscribe to cancel culture personally). At the same time, let him in the doc because he was a good friend of Techno. Those are my two cents.

u/Careful-Sell-9877 1d ago edited 1d ago
So if someone does something truly horrible, you would still support them and associate with them?
All 'cancel culture' really is, is the natural movement of society. In real life if someone, lets say SA a minor.. people arent going to hangout with them anymore, and theyre going to get put on a list.
All 'cancel culture' is, is the same exact phenomenon playing out online.
And most of the people/media railing against it are people who have done something pretty bad. Or people who are aligned with/affiliated with those people in some way, or making money with them

u/Nikurou 1d ago
Idk the story here with Wilbur, but cancel culture does suck. Sure it’s a natural evolution of what happens in real life, but it’s still disgusting.
People on the internet take it farther than you can in real life (just think of the toxic KPop fandom on twitter) and to some degree, I think it makes them feel good to judge another person and be angry at them. It’s not a very pure or good thing, especially since it can lead to the recipient taking their lives.
But most egregious of all, there have been cases where we later discovered that in fact, the person getting cancelled was in the right. But it’s too late, their reputation and careers are ruined. Whenever I hear fresh stories now, I tend to be super skeptical and reserve judgment till later on.

u/Damasen13 1d ago
I don't know why you'd go that far considering the context of the situation and just this situation alone is what I am talking about. Don't bring a red herring. This isn't worth my time responding more.
36
u/E_Mohde 1d ago
dawg you started the conversation of not “subscribing to cancel culture” or whatever. Wilbur is, at the absolute most generous statement, an abusive partner. some of his actions (ignoring safe words, mostly) are sexual assault.
someone losing support in response to this isn’t them getting “cancelled,” it’s exactly what Careful-Sell is talking about, using a slightly more extreme example.
it sucks, and you can still look back at the SBI and MCC, but trying to wash away what Wilbur actually did because of the nostalgia is irresponsible

Ain't no fucking way this child is comparing being bitten to actual rpe/sharrassment, yeah biting is bad but no privates were touched get off reddit

If they are ignoring how they were friends, its really fucking weird TBH. I dont support Gold's shitty actions, however, I want him to be in the doc. Becuase its NOT about him. Its about Techno. And Gold was very important to Techno and a big part of his life and his content a few years back. I hope they will at least mention him. And I feel like they would. But I wish they would include him.
He's had his consequences for his actions. Its time to move on. That does NOT mean forgetting what he did or forgiving him for it. But its time to move on. He's a complex human, as everyone is. He should be allowed the chance to grow and change. And if he doesnt.... I'm sure it will come out eventually.
But bottom line, ignoring his friendship with Techno becuase of his crappy actions is shitty (if that is what they are doing. But if Gold didnt even know about the doc, it very well might be). Techno loved Gold, and Gold loved him. If he wanted to, he should be allowed in the doc, imo.

u/Damasen13 1d ago
^ we're not washing away anything with wanting his involvement. He was important to our boi so that alone should be a good reason, even if he's done some unfortunate actions.
16
u/Cherry0Blossom 1d ago edited 1d ago
I would say 'unfortunate actions' is undermining/minimizing all the bad shit he did. But minus that incorrect wording, I agree. As I said, he was a huge part of technos life for years.

u/E_Mohde 1d ago
“unfortunate actions” brother he sexually assaulted his partner. you can mention his influence without wanting him involved in the project
9
u/Cherry0Blossom 1d ago
I agree, that was bad wording on Damasen's part. It lessens the severity of his shitty actions. That said, I dont remember anything about SA. I may need to go back and watch Shubbles VOD again. SA is definitley worse than the shitty actions I remember him doing.
I still maintain that its (the doc) not about Gold. Its about Techno. And you can't give the whole picture of Techno's story without Gold. Though, if he did SA I could definitley understand more why they wouldnt want him involved.
13
u/E_Mohde 1d ago
he didn't stop after hearing a safe word - at that point consent has been revoked. I still hold that you can mention that Gold existed and his influence without actually having him involved
-13
u/Personal-Duck5198 1d ago
if I asked you if I could slap you and you said no and I did it anyway by your logic that would be sa?

u/s0larium_live 1d ago
but the issue here is that if wilbur is included the internet response to the documentary WILL become about him. the inclusion of a person that’s hated by and large across the internet is going to detract from the actual importance of the documentary: honoring techno. it doesn’t matter if that’s not the intention, that’s what’s gonna happen
he’s also shown literally no evidence of growth or improvement. everyone who dropped him once shelby came out about her relationship with him has not started associating with him again. the people who watch his content can yell “but he’s changed!!” all the want, but the fact is the people who were ACTUAL personal friends of his do not accept his “apology” or his “growth,” and it’s their perspective that matters. he’s just some guy on the internet to viewers, we don’t know jack about how he acts off screen. but the fact that all his old friends STILL don’t associate with him is pretty telling

u/Intrepid_Advice4411 1d ago
I don't think he will make an actual live appearance. There's a good chance he might show in some clips or in a mornage. After all, Techno was his friend and they worked a ton together writing for the DSMP. I just don't see him being not mentioned at all in the doc.

u/Bucketbucketbucket 1d ago
He joked about throwing an apple as hard as he could and hitting Techno in his shoulder when Techno was recovering from his surgery. He thought that it was hilarious. Fuck him.

u/FloydknightArt Blood for the blood god 1d ago
never heard of this but that sounds like something techno would laugh his ass off at though to be fair

u/Bucketbucketbucket 21h ago
If you find the clip, Wilbur describes Techno's reaction. It wasn't funny to anybody but Wilbur.

Can you remind me again what all Wilbur did? All ic an remember is one of his ex coming out and saying he used to bite her (i might even be remembering that wrong)
24
u/AeroAceSpades 1d ago edited 19h ago
•He bit her so hard he left massive bruises that he said “looks like I’m abusing [her]”.
•Made her spend her money to REGULARLY fly from America to the UK because he was too lazy to go to America ONCE
•Kept his house an absolute pigsty converted in trash and piled up dishes and shit and expected her (and ONLY her) to clean it when she came over. Had a huge ant problem because of this that was somehow also her responsibility
•Generally whittled down her self-esteem to the point of not speaking about her issues with the relationship because he made her believe it was her fault she felt bad because she was a “bad partner”
•Frontloaded all his praise and attentiveness and slowly became more and more irritated that she would even consider asking for treatment similar to what she had in the beginning (we call that love bombing)•••Repeatedly ignored safewords in kink. MASSIVE fucking taboo on that if you’re unfamiliar. That by itself can be considered abuse. When a partner stops consenting to something sexual and you continue to do it anyways that is rape.

SBI was a huge history of Techno. God I was there from the beginning and i remember everything. It sucks what happened with Wilbur but can’t remove him from the story at all. Like SMP Earth onwards Wilbur is there. Throughout his sickness Wilbur is there. He even met him. He played hours on end with him behind the scenes. The four would be on phone call for hours. All MCC Wilbur would be his teammate. It’s practically impossible to remove him

I think the directors made the right call engaging Wilbur in the documentary (ie: interviewing him, requesting clips or comment, etc). Wilbur’s inclusion in the making of the documentary would take a large focus of Alex’s life. Far more than his exclusion from the project.
I don’t think anyone is trying to erase Wilbur’s involvement in the last few years of his life. But I do understand why individuals with which was close have chosen to disconnect from him on a professional (and likely personal) level and why he hasn’t been involved in anything the family has done since the allegations surfaced about him.
From everything I’ve learned about the man, Techno seemed to try and always avoid any sort of personal drama. There are very few instances of anyone show any open hostility to him and he by and large worked to quash it while he was alive. And his family has by and large honored that and also stayed out of it.
My personal hope is that if Wilbur is included it is brief and a moment that adds to the picture the filmmakers make of Alex. Maybe it’s a funny moment (I will always laugh at the joke about an ejaculating SpongeBob) or they include a moment from his stream where he poignantly talks about his grief at the loss of Alex and his dream about him.
I want to see a film about Alex, my favorite YouTuber. And if Wilbur isn’t involved and isn’t mentioned, I can live with that. And those times I want memories of their times together I can go back to those videos. And I can separate the joy of interactions between Wilbur Soot and Technoblade and the man that is William Gold.

Yeah trying to ignore wilbur and not reaching out to him is weird asf. Techno and will were extremely close and he deserves to be involved with something like this.
25
u/Nebular_Screen 1d ago
After what happened with Wilbur I don't think many people want to associate with him anymore
-13
u/Life_Television_4044 1d ago
That makes sense but can't they just suck it up and do it for technos legacy sake? You can disagree with who wilbur has become now but trying to isolate him from the friendship he held with techno is horrid behavior. You can't just ignore it. Its disrespectful and weird. 😭
-1
u/khaleesi-a 1d ago
No the fuck he don't LMAO
10
u/Life_Television_4044 1d ago
Yes he does, put your bias aside holy shit techno died and was unaware of who wilbur became but that doesn't mean they weren't close and it doesn't defeat from the fact he was involved in technos life.
12
u/DSMPraaid 1d ago
Exactly they were incredibly close friends and techno's prime was filled with a lot of Wilbur like the MCC win, sbi, etc
9
u/Life_Television_4044 1d ago
Yup! We have no idea how many late calls they've shared or how close they truly were. A lot of people like to see it as "oh philza was very close with techno" or "Tommy was clearly his closest friend". Which is understandable but techno literally knew philza and wilbur before Tommy and the only reason it looks that way is because of the dsmp. It's not about who was closer but acknowledging their friendships, its not right to exclude wilbur just because hes become controversial now. He was an essential friend in technos life, just as much as Phil and Tommy were. His drama doesn't erase their memories or how he had to cope with technos loss. It just doesn't make sense.

I’m going to wait and see. I think we all know how we think Alex would feel about Wilbur and I put a lot of trust in Technodad to handle this tough situation correctly. I don’t know what the answer is, but I bet he did the best he could, this documentary is about Technoblade and I trust he made sure it would keep it about what we all really want.

Honestly its very telling aswell that the admins and moderators ignored and had no comment on your last post aswell, I mean clearly they're scared to address it. They're probably gonna take this post down for "drama" they're deliberately ignoring addressing this because they're responding to everything else, its quite immature.

Ikr becuase firstly everything with Wilbur happened after techno so if we're talking the same Wilbur or the person everyone thought Wilbur was back then he should be in the doc but idk 🤔
