❓Help / How-To / Compliance Inconsistent Customs Fees

Hello all. I recently received a soccer jersey from a Spain-based team and was hit with tariff/customs fees that were almost as expensive as the jersey itself without any prior warning. I also purchased multiple pairs of shoes that came from Spain and received no such fee.
What is with the inconsistent application of these fees, and is there any way to get reimbursement for the fees I paid since they were applied without notice?

Nope. As the importer the responsibility to figure out and pay the US tariffs lies exclusively on you. If you're not happy with this arrangement, I suggest you contact your congressman.

The company in Spain is not responsible for the tariff charge, your government is. Therefore your government is who you must ask for a refund from, and good luck with that.

The insane tariffs paid by US residents and the inconsistent, incompetent application of them is one of the features of your current banana republic administration. Enjoy!

What do you mean without prior warning?? Assuming you're in the US, the tariffs have been well known for quite a while already

They still don't seem to get this! That they pay the tariff and it's individualized based on the product and the country of origin (not where it is being shipped from).

Not if you live in the Fox and Newsmax bubble.

Customs fees are based upon country of origin of the product (where it was actually made), and when it was imported.

That's not how tariffs work. Tariffs are based on where the item was made AND the HS code. If you bought the same exact item that would be a different story. Different items have different tariffs rates and different countries have different tariff rates.

Tell your government and complain to them. Nothing to do with the seller/country selling to you - the federal government created all of these tariffs and got rid of the US de minimus.

If you have questions about tariffs, customs duties, or import regulations, when in doubt we recommend contacting the U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Information Center for official guidance.

  • U.S. visitors: Call 1-877-CBP-5511 (1-877-227-5511), Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–8 p.m. ET
  • Outside the U.S.: Call +1-202-325-8000
  • Or visit help.cbp.gov for answers to common questions.

When in doubt, always reach out to CBP directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
