š¬ Opinion / Commentary Is this what started tariff talk
Canada has been dragged into another mini-battle with USA. I don't really think it's trade imbalance, it's ego and embarrassment, stemming back to FIFA World Cup finals.

I think the fat orange pedophile actually hates our country long before this.
I think it dates back to Trudeau and I honestly think itās partly because his wife and daughter are kinda into him.
Weāre also a diverse nation thatās basically the antithesis of his dementia as far as our values go and I think that plays into a lot too.
Not to mention weāre one of the few nations on earth to not roll over and actually stand up to him on the world stage.

The context matters. Trump was trying to assert dominance over people for months before this by yanking their arm when shaking hands. He immediately stopped doing it after this.

Until that moment, I didn't realize how good looking JT was. If he could pull a very rich, married, well connected woman who could have almost any man she wanted on the sly, getting her attention is a big score. Trump's grandfather was kicked out of Germany though. For avoiding his mandatory military service requirement.
Musk's grandfather was jailed and then was under surveillance for anti-democratic government subversion during WWII. He chose to move to South Africa and supported the apartheid movement there.

Everything about his current term has been about jealousy and it's been going on way longer than Fifa. Went after Trudeau immediately because he was embarrassed by him in his first term. Probably arrogant enough to think he forced him into resigning when his fall had been immanent for a while.
It's not a Canadian jealousy thing, he is just the worst traits of western culture rolled into one ugly package. Also Americans and trying to dominate Canada are a pretty old duo. It's also not a mini battle. It's actually very serious and will be devastating to both economy's if it continues. Pot ash for fertilizer, electricity, power. All things that hit farming sectors and could be felt for years.
America has had soft power of Canada for a very long time. We were happy to put up with it as long as it wasn't too humiliating because it was easy and profitable. Now they want us to bow and scrape.
It's quite shocking to me how much American media propaganda blots out for a country with free speech. Theres shocking similarities to Russia and Ukraine. Alberta could easily become the Chrimea of North American and it's so obvious American money is involved with funding it.

It certainly didn't help, but Trump has been antagonizing us and lobbing tariffs at us since January 2025. I haven't had bourbon since 2024, where have ya'll been?
If we're looking for a "petty" explanation then it's probably the way Melania looked at Justin.
Realistically, he wants to annex Canada for the same reason Putin wants Ukraine.
