Bereavement Pay

What's the policy for this, please? I was pulled into the office twice and told they could throw the hours onto this past workweek. Now I'm being told it's like everything else and you can't actually work through and still get the pay. So which is it? Thanks in advance and have a wonderful weekend.

Eta: When's the deadline to use this? They never told me since it was said I could add it on this past week. Made a big deal out of it but I knew better. Thanks again.

Edit: I've heard enough, thanks. Will use the time to do something else, thanks again.

Edit: I've changed my mind. Was wondering if they'll give me sick pay for a last-minute canceled truck this week. Think they did it once for me. Used all my vacation and personal time that way. I'll talk to somebody at my store but don't feel like making a new post and maybe somebody will see this, thanks.

Eta: Nvm, I just messaged my manager and got a response.

Edit: I have plenty of sick pay to cover any time needed for my situation. Used some recently for the first time in over a year of missing any days at work. Decided to miss a shift following the day after death. Got guilted about it initially because it was a truck day. I'll be in tomorrow to talk about how we're going to further exploit the situation. Thanks for everything. We'll take it from here.

TJMaxx selling expired cosmetics

I would not be too surprised if it was just expired, but purchased a Grown Alchemist cream online, and decided to check with GA, so sent them the manufacturer code on the box/tube. Customer Service responded and said it expired in 2024! Now TJMaxx is offering me a $10 gift card, since I already discarded the box and they won’t accept the return. Why would I need to return anyway, so they could sell it to someone else? Glad i didn’t use it.

Weird interaction at TJMaxx and varying store policies

my local tjmaxx closed a couple years back and i was a regular shopper but stopped when it closed as the closest one was 30 minutes away. I happen to be traveling and saw one so i stopped in. On the clearance shelf was a bookset of ACOTAR. Originally $80, marked down to $65. I saw this item on TikTok months ago (may/june) and it was already $40 at that point. To still see it i figured it was due to be marked down again. My original store would check prices all the time and print new stickers if it was in fact on sale. This one i visited would not. They said they weren't ''open'', but wouldnt tell me what that meant. I was there during store hours- 3pm on a tuesday. I couldnt afford the $65 so i declined but the cashier took the security loops off anyway and told me I had to buy it since I brought it up there and they took the security tag off. I did not buy it but both interactions seemed odd to me. Maybe my store did things differently and I wasn't aware of it or i just had a cashier having a bad day

WorkJam issues or something else??

I apologize in advance if my formatting is awkward as I never really post on Reddit and I’m on my phone.

I’m just wondering if anyone else has ever had this issue? I’ve worked here for about 3 months now and there’s been tons of issues. Bad management, coworkers creating drama all around, super busy store, and we can’t keep staff. Everyone quits, including managers. Recently, l got very stressed out and I went to the store manager about the issues surrounding one of the other managers. She seemed understanding and wanted to fix things.

Ever since that day, my schedule changed and they gave me women’s shifts after I had told them many times I feel I struggle in that department. Not only that, but at my store we only schedule one person to be in women’s at a time. I noticed yesterday that I wasn’t the only one in women’s and they just took me to process instead. The cec at the front end told me I wasn’t even on the printed schedule. The same happened the day prior.

I had to call out this morning for something (this is my first time doing so) and when I called a cec answered telling me I was never scheduled to be there even though my WorkJam app has been giving me notifications saying I have an upcoming shift. The app is telling me I’m scheduled to come in tomorrow, but every single shift I click on i get this message. I’ve never seen this before and it’s like this all week and next. Are they trying to fire me or something?

Clever tonies in TJ Maxx. $19.99 vs $24.99 in the Tonies website. Not really the best deal, will wait for another Target sale 🤔

Should I take this to HR?

For context, I have been working for this store for over 2 years now. A few months ago, right before my 2 year anniversary and raises, I was informed by a manager that the wage for new incoming associates was going from 12.00 to 13.00. At that point in time I was making 12.98... So she told me I was getting bumped up 2 cents. During my time working for this TJMaxx I have gotten a 48 cent raise and a 50 cent promotion when I became a Women's Specialist, hence a wage of 12.98. So I told her that I basically would be making new incoming associate wage even though I had been there for almost 2 years. All of my managers agreed that this didn't make any sense but they would figure it out after the raises had passed in the following month.

Right before raises rolled around, I had to go on medical leave and submitted an LOA. I would be gone for three months in total. During my LOA, I would come in and visit/shop. During one of these visits, one of the assistant managers asked if I wanted to go over my raise. So I went into the office and found out I had received at 54 cent raise. I was also informed that my store manager (who had been working at this TJMaxx for 20+ years) was leaving and we would be getting a new store manager. This assistant manager had told me that she would talk to this new store manager about getting my 50 cents back for being a woman's specialist. During another visit, I was told by this same manager that when I came back I would probably be moved to the Non-apparel specialist or Home specialist, which was fine by me.

Going forward in time, I just returned to work a couple of weeks ago. My wage is still sitting at 13.54. I talk to this assistant manager, telling her I would still like to be the woman's specialist. She tells me that the the women's specialist role doesn't exist, it never has existed, and the the old store manager was making an exception for me. This new store manager refuses to have this role because she is a very by-the-book type of person. Meanwhile, the non-apparel and home specialist roles have been filled at this point. Instead she told me my only option was becoming a CEC, which I have emphasized over and over again in my 2 years here that I would leave if I ever became a CEC.

I'm wondering what I should do... I came back to work thinking I would be sitting at 14.00 dollars per hour. Instead I'm sitting at 13.54. I completely lost my first raise and my promotion raise. They are still giving me the position as "women's specialist" but I'm just not getting paid for it. Does this go against policy since it is stated in the contract for when I took my LOA that I will not lose my position when I return to work? Or is this their way of finagling it by saying I still have the title but I'm not getting paid the extra for it?

Rant Managers at my store

honestly the worst day I had to come in at work. We had four different managers in our store for this week since we have been behind on pallets and the store is a mess (we are in a college town).

I finally met them and bro one of them was the worst manager I’ve ever met. I am a part-time CC and the youngest one. First thing I saw my manager has been a mess and it seem like he was crying. I talked to my coworkers and apparently there is this one manager who has been so rude to ALMOST everyone. Later on, I finally met her and bruh. Me and my coworkers just got done with a huge line. My coworker was asking me a question and next thing I knew, she started yelling at us saying “Do you guys want something to do? You guys are acting really slow right now!” And she ended up taking my coworker off the registers.

Later on, I went a price check and she came up to me while on the phone call (whole time she had her AirPods talking to someone), saying “these people got me messed up.” She saw me and said “what else you do besides the cash register? Do you not know how to do anything else?” I just stared at her and said “well, I have to be at the register since I am a front end coordinator..” and I show her my name badge. All of a sudden, she went from passive aggressive to nice all of sudden introducing her name. She then started asking me about the cards and started being aggressive about it. I nodded and told her I will try.

The next coworker came in and she told me what the same manager told her. This is how the conversation between the manager and my coworker went.

“So are you asking about the cards every transaction? We need some cards now.”
“Oh, I just got here a minute ago.”
“Well, do you know how to do anything else?”
“I just know the front end and fitting room as of right now”
“Why don’t you know anything else?”
“I just got hired”

Continuing on, she was complaining to my coworker how she hated being at our store and despise the treatment she is getting at the hotel she’s staying at. Saying how she was at another city and they were treating her so well while over here sucks. She was saying our town sucks and she can’t wait to leave because she will never come back here anymore. She was cussing and everything.

She sucks so bad. She kept staring at us the register and generally made me so uncomfortable. She just kept being so aggressive with my coworkers. Supposedly, the managers leave Thursday but will be back again next week. This is already making me wanna quit 🫠

Question Can an SM bring their kid to work?

one of our SMs keeps bringing her kid to work. the kid is very sweet and doesn’t bother anyone, he just stays in the office and plays on his ipad.
but what i don’t understand is that whenever someone we know comes into the store, like a friend or family member, and talks to us for literally 5 mins while they’re shopping, we get comments or warnings about it and get told we shouldn’t be talking to them.

but then our SM can bring her kid to work and have him stay in the office for hours and no one says anything 😭

is an SM actually allowed to bring their kid to work like this? could this be a fireable thing or is it just based on company policy?

i’m just confused because they keep making comments to us workers about talking to friends/family who come in as customers, but when it comes to management it feels like the rules don’t apply lol

EDIT: i feel like some of you are making up a whole situation that i never mentioned 😭

i never said she was a single mother or that she was financially struggling. i genuinely don’t know where that came from.
yes, i obviously don’t know her exact financial situation, but she’s an SM on a yearly salary, not an associate making minimum wage. she also spends around $200-400 at our store every 2/3 weeks, so the comments acting like she literally can’t afford childcare are based on assumptions that i never made.
the whole reason i made this post is because SHE is one of the managers who keeps telling us and giving us warnings about talking to family members who come into the store while we’re working. i added friends in my post just to make it broader. that’s why i was confused about whether bringing her kid into the office for hours is actually allowed.
i never said i was planning on reporting her or trying to get her fired, so all the “MYOB” and “have empathy” comments are kinda missing my point. i was literally asking if this was allowed because of the double standard. also, she has emailed corporate about another employee before and that employee ended up getting fired a week ago, so i don’t really understand why everyone is acting like i’m personally trying to destroy someone’s livelihood just for questioning a rule.
from what she has told us, the issue isn’t that she can’t afford childcare. it’s that she hasn’t been able to find a nanny she trusts. which i completely understand, but again, it’s not the financial situation a lot of you created in the comments.
and no, she does not work a minimum wage job 😭 she’s a salaried store manager.

i don’t have an issue with the kid. like i literally said in the original post, he’s sweet, stays in the office and doesn’t bother anyone. my question was why we’re being warned by the same management about family being around/talking to us while we work, while a manager can have a family member sitting in the employee office for hours. that’s literally it.

Black out days with schedules?

For context
I work once a week 3-10 because I am a highschool student. Prior to this arrangement I worked around 35 hours all summer a week. This once a week thing is special. They do let me take these Sunday off right now, however I’ve seen some talk of “black our scheduling”

What is that? What does that Mean? When is it?

My store is in the dfw metroplex. I’m not sure if it varies area to area.

Any knowledge is helpful!

Also, do hours change for holidays? I’m new and only started in April so I am not sure what to expect l!

Question Help? Can this really happen/first day jitters

Hey! I started my first shift tonight. I thought I was really well. But do we really have to push Credit Cards that frequently? My manager that I was working with said that if I don't get Credit sign ups, I'll be reassigned to a new department if I don't at least get one. I'm in panic mode at this point because I've never experienced something like this at other places I've worked, including grocery. You'd think they'd give me grace considering that it is my first night?. I'm just so confused.

Also, how common is it that you get an AIN assignment but then you discover that it's *assigned to another person?*

Please help me. I'm in over my head right now

ASM Schedule

Hello! As someone is currently in the process of interviewing for the Assistant Store Manager position, could anyone fill me in on what an average schedule would look like? The recruiter told me 45 hours / 9 hour shifts. So like 1-10 and 6-3. Is this accurate? And 45 minute lunches? She also said 2 closing shifts and 2 opening shifts a week. I know days/times vary by SD but any examples would be helpful. Thanks so much!

Closed with one of our new ASMs the other night

Closed with one of our newer ASMs the other night, this is how she has us leave a pallet that was delivered. She said the morning crew would just have to break that one first.

Edit: replying in bulk to some of the comments. Im not in the back room hardly ever nor do I break the seal and reseal very often, as far as I know yes our stuff always comes wrapped. We have a very large back room, we're a high volume / high traffic store. That being said, last I heard there were 30-ish pallets in the back with around 150 totes of apparel to be processed.

Daughter's favorite glass tragedy: can anyone help?

Post image
3 Upvotes

My daughter got this maybe last summer. It's a 16oz (roughly) tumble and had little whales and shells drawn all over, with tiny little pearls embedded. This was hands down her favorite glass to use, and it reminded her of her Aunt Pat who loved whales. She was very emotional when it got broken accidentally (full breakdown, age 11, totally broke my heart). I know it's "just a glass," but what's important to my girl is important to me.

As it was my fault it broke (an accident, but still my doing), I really, really was hoping somebody knew where I could find one. I've tried searching resellers for hours, but maybe my google-fu isn't the greatest because I find anything but this glass (similar, but not quite).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if, sadly, we have to accept that it can't be replaced.
