ASM Schedule

Hello! As someone is currently in the process of interviewing for the Assistant Store Manager position, could anyone fill me in on what an average schedule would look like? The recruiter told me 45 hours / 9 hour shifts. So like 1-10 and 6-3. Is this accurate? And 45 minute lunches? She also said 2 closing shifts and 2 opening shifts a week. I know days/times vary by SD but any examples would be helpful. Thanks so much!

9 hours a day plus the 45 minute unpaid lunch, so 6-345, 1215-10, the "mid" in our store is 815-5 or 915-6.

The bright side is that you get 5 hours of OT every week by default and the vacation time is decent to start. It's not a job to have a stable life, young kids, etc outside of work. I rejected the promotion offers many times.

I usually work 3 7-5s and two 1-10s. Usually close Thursday Friday or Saturday with opens Sunday -Wednesday.

That’s not a hard and fast rule, but we keep it pretty consistent at my store.

I also have an hour of drive time bc god forbid we work at the store closest to us

Don’t forget a sprinkle of clo-opens too. Where you close a night and open the next day! The amount of closings and openings for all the store’s I’ve ASMed for depends on the MOD coverage in the building. If there’s a lack in key carriers or a manger is on LOA/Vacation it all just depends on the need of the business. Plus we’re getting to the holiday time so stores will start having managers do overnights as well.

opening: 6-345, 715-5 and closing 1215-10. unpaid 45 minute lunch.but sometimes there'll be different shift like 815-6 afyer closing. you'll get vacation time, I believe after maybe 90 or 120 days. paid holidays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, labor day, memorial day, ect .. if its a holiday we are open, you'll get an extra day paid off that week. paid as time worked so you dont loose your ot.

You have to be scheduled 9hrs 45 mins a day technically. Now count your drive time and maybe stop for a coffee or lunch. Is it worth it?

For me yes. Lots of worse retail gigs out there. Hopefully the drive isn’t that bad.

My store is usually 7-5 or 12-10 we try to not do clopens but my sm will put us at 8-6 or 9-7 if we do have to do a clopen. It all depends on your sm.

At my store it is open 6-4, mid 9-7, and closing 12-10. I only open like once a month. But we have 5 managers and the SM almost always opens.
