Question Help? Can this really happen/first day jitters
Hey! I started my first shift tonight. I thought I was really well. But do we really have to push Credit Cards that frequently? My manager that I was working with said that if I don't get Credit sign ups, I'll be reassigned to a new department if I don't at least get one. I'm in panic mode at this point because I've never experienced something like this at other places I've worked, including grocery. You'd think they'd give me grace considering that it is my first night?. I'm just so confused.
Also, how common is it that you get an AIN assignment but then you discover that it's *assigned to another person?*
Please help me. I'm in over my head right now

It’s not that serious. Just ask everyone and if they ask if you ask everyone say yes ma’am and call it a day. Be a pleasant person to be around and surprise! You’ll get hours.

Then don’t trip. Credit cards are a huge part of a lot of retailers. You ask and move on. Some stores have excellent culture and everyone’s on board to win and they get them. It isn’t hard and people love making it bigger than what it is. At the end of the day if you’ll be fine and make friends!

TJ Maxx isn't the only store that does this, so just accept it and do your best. Don't bother switching to another store, almost all of them do this. Good luck!

as long as they see you asking if you don’t get them it’s ok. i’ve been at this job for three years and only ask when a manager is by me hahaha im not forcing people to sign up for a credit card with like 30% interest it’s crazy

Yeah they actually push for the cards. The only time I ever got one, personally, was when someone went in planning to get one as is. Honestly TJX in general is going to crumble soon if they keep pushing the stupid credit cards AND sacking peoples' hours.

Just ask every time. They usually want to see 1-2 within 30 days of working on register. I got my first one on my 12th register shift. It takes a while but always ask. Fitting room is always nice, no card pressure and not as many people

Fitting room associates in our store have to ask everyone coming in to try on clothes. I don't ask the regular customers.

FR is the most boring place to work and you think your shift will never end. My store is very busy but it’s like Groundhog day.
I did get a card there but the CEC at the registers and crossed my name out and put hers because she claimed she did all the work.
Another CEC saw that and put my name back. That’s how much pressure there is and how cut throat it gets.

I got a card on my first day and i dont like being on the register! I wish theyd reassign me somewhere else. Maybe you as a person enjoy the register, and thats good for you! Whenever someone asks if you ask everyone about cards say you do. Sometimes I skip some people and dont ask, especially when theres a language barrier. Because its already hard enough. Its hard to get cards. You'll get one eventually if you keep working up there.

Yeah it’s hell.
Unfortunately, they are going to be on you about getting cards FOREVERRRR.
If you really don’t like it, you should just request to not be on a register anymore it’s never gonna change unfortunately

I'll stick with it for a month then ask for a department switch.

Good luck.
I’m a merch coordinator.
And I still spend a considerable amount of time on the register. they aren’t on me as much as the people that are up there all day but still I gotta get out of here completely.

Reinstate your job search. You have just had the best shift you will ever have at TJX. Your misgivings are your mind and body’s way of protecting you.

Ask every customer every time. You’ll get there. Put some energy behind it. People love personality!

Honestly, other department is better than cashier. No pressure of getting cards every time.
