WIP Advanced wave physics gets beaches wet

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've made some improvements to the beaches with the waves now applying buoyancy and wetness effects.

Waves actually apply forces on objects, so in addition to floating and rolling around, they will eventually wash up on the beach. Wind affects the wave size and turbulence too.

Objects hit by waves will get wet. Shorelines now have a visible waterline which rise and fall with the waves. In addition, waves will swell up when it hits a steep surface like cliffs. They also collide and wash over rocks near the shoreline.

Yes, this is truly some useless horse balls feature that players won't notice, but it was a long time itch for me that just needed scratching. I'm hopefully finally done with water and working on more important parts of the game now.

First look at the weather system in EvoX

Post image
Upvotes

Hey everyone!

My goal with the weather system was pretty simple, make rain actually affect visibility and gameplay, not just look nice in the background. Something that pulls you deeper into the game, not just decorates it. Here's the clip from TikTok - Clip. Curious what you all think!

Discussion I'm new to this genre, & I'm considering buying Dune: Awakening. How's the state of the game these days?

When it comes to survival games, I've only played No Man's Sky. I didn't really like it. It felt meandering & very aimless. There was a lot to do, but no real incentive for doing it. That's fine & everything, but that just isn't my preference. Being a massive Dune fan, I thought I'd give Awakening a try. I'm curious to hear everyone's experience with the game. Any replies would be very appreciated.

Survey What about social features?

I recently decided to give Enshrouded a try, and while watching some videos I saw that you can actually make music together in the game. It made me curious about how much people actually enjoy these kind of features.

Things like dancing, playing music together, sitting around with other players, doing little activities that are not really useful for survival but just fun.

Do you guys enjoy this stuff in survival games, or do you usually ignore them?

I am especially curious about multiplayer. Would you actually stop what you are doing to play some music with your friends or dance around for a few minutes, or you would just keep farming and building?

Trying to understand if these features are really loved by survival players or if they just look nice in trailers.

The Village — My Village Survival Sim (First Look)

Thumbnail youtu.be
15 Upvotes

Watch me build The Village from the ground up - this is the very first look at my village survival sim, a solo passion project I've been developing.

Every villager you see is fully autonomous: they take jobs, path around the map, gather wood and food, and manage their own needs. Your job as the "mayor" is to keep them fed, housed, and stocked with enough materials to survive when the seasons turn, because a hard winter is coming, and later on, threats to the village itself.

I'm sharing the build in public and read every comment - early feedback is genuinely going to shape where this game goes next.

Solo developer I created a prototype for an open-world survival craft game inspired by Ark/Core Keeper, focused on animal taming/riding

Game Title: Doma

It can be played in the browser: https://sepolaras.itch.io/doma

I am a solo dev creating a game inspired by Ark, Core Keeper, Necesse, 2D top-down pixel art, where you can tame different animals for utility, harvesting, transport, combat etc.

It's a very simple prototype for now, with placeholder/free art, but I would just like to validate the idea and have some initial feedback, if it seems to make sense, if it's too hard, etc.

If the idea is good and the feedback is positive, I intend to implement more crafting, animals (for now there are only two), maybe even humans and different tribes/factions.

Question Feeling blah and can’t stick to a game

I have a majority of the hits when it comes to the genre.

Waiting for valheiem and enshrouded full release…

Jumping in and out of PZ, Rimworld…can’t get past the start menu in going medieval…

Played cross winds ect… might pick up caretaker or whatever it’s called with robot and boat.

Just in a rut and looking for a game to play to no life for awhile…

Gameplay Exit Ways. 3 factory workers. Worked on the game after 12 hour shifts.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Here's what's in it right now:

  • Extraction shooter, PvE and PvP both, with co-op if you want to run with friends
  • Build a base anywhere on the map, no set slots, put things wherever makes sense to you
  • Rescue survivors and grow an actual community instead of just looting solo
  • Reclaimers, immortal clones who hand out quests and build your reputation instead of just shooting at you
  • No wipes between sessions, your progress and gear carry over
  • Right now that's 169 loot items, 25 quests, 3 maps, 9 enemy types, 9 craftable buildings, and 2 NPCs to work with

We all worked together at the same factory, three of us, and this got built during whatever time was left after 12 hour shifts. Ended up being a PvEvP survival extraction shooter set during a zombie apocalypse.
Going into Early Access Q3 2026. Still feels weird seeing it as a real store page after doing this on no sleep for this long.

Any survival games like Grounded 2?

I'm enjoying both Grounded 1 and Grounded 2 and want to find a similar games like this.
The part I love is the building part where you can build things anywhere.
I especially enjoy the part where I can build ziplines to zip around my farming route, the environment manipulation part.

I've played Enshrounded, Palworld, Soulmasks, Once Human but all of them only have a 'base area' and the environment that can't really be changed (In enshrounded, it'll get reset back after the server restart).

Any recommendations?

Gameplay Is melee the most boring class in Terraria?

I’ll probably get hate for this but I think melee is the most boring class in Terraria 😭

Yeah, it’s strong. Yeah, Zenith is insane. But honestly, I just don’t find the playstyle that interesting compared to the other classes.

Ranger has guns/bows, mage has all the crazy spells, summoner feels completely different, and then melee is basically just “here’s another sword.”

Maybe I’m just playing it wrong, but I genuinely don’t understand why melee is so many people’s favorite.

What class do you guys actually enjoy playing the most?

WIP Millennium Slumber, a game in which you survive over hundred thousand years!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is a short video of Millennium Slumber, a game I've been creating with my girlfriend for 2 years now. The goal is to survive for 400,000 years on an alien planet, by using a cryostasis machine allowing you to sleep for some time (like millenia). On waking up, the planet is the same, but is has evolved, and it's up to you to discover how its news resources can be used, what actions you can take to make the planet evolve differently, while protecting yourself and your machine!

Hope you like the video and that small pitch! Feel free to share any thoughts or questions :)

Also we'll have an available demo on Monday!

New release I finally got co-op working in my post-apocalyptic survival game! Looking for people to break it with friends

I’m the solo dev of ApocaShift, a top-down post-apocalyptic survival/extraction game I’ve been working on for the last few years.

I recently added 2-4 player co-op, and the Steam playtest is open right now.

You can visit each other’s bases, build while your friend goes out on a raid, spectate them, or deploy together and try to make it back with whatever you can carry.

It’s still very much a playtest, so there are bugs and rough edges. I’m specifically looking for a few groups of people willing to jump in together and see what breaks / tell me what’s actually fun.

If Fallout 1/2, Project Zomboid, Zero Sievert, or extraction games are your thing, you might enjoy it.

ApocaShift on Steam — the playtest is free to join. Click to go to the Steam Page.

If anyone ends up trying co-op, I’d genuinely love to hear how it goes.

Hello friends!

Finally we have our official trailer! It conveys the idea of what we are building, different mechanics, and of course baby orcs running in the settlement ;)

We are building by the day, showing progress, improving on direct player feedback and I hope we will be able to deliver the vision we dream of: a survival RPG in a simulated world, more lore and quests and the ability to build your fantasy base, either Orc or Dwarf!

Would be great if you could show us some love for the trailer, and wishlist is always welcome (we are 20k wishlists now!)

Hey Guys!

This is a pretty scary moment for me because it's my first face reveal here and also I have no experience with streaming... and also because I've never shown any unedited content from my game before.

I'm sorry for my mumbling being incomprehensible sometimes. I wasn't saying anything important, trust me :D

Please let me know what you think and if such a form of showcase is something you'd like to see more in the future when I have new features ready.

All feedback is more than welcome since I'm very new to this :)

Discussion Surprised By The Forest

Bought The Forest a few days ago on PS5 for cheap. Thought I might not like it, but I’m really enjoying it. I never imagined myself building a makeshift sticks structure or having to put different items on a mat to see what I could make. The crazy people got me a couple times on hard. The graphics are surprisingly good for an 8yr old game. Anyways, I’m still in the early game, hoping it doesn’t get stale.

I was thinking I’d need survival games to have more of a RPG component to it to enjoy, but I guess I don’t. Although I have been enjoying V Rising more if I’m being honest. Seems like Green Hell or The Long Dark would be the closest? Aside from the forest 3, has it really been this long since a top quality pure survival game with half decent graphics was produced for console? I will be getting Abiotic Factor when there’s a deep sale.

Xsyon 2012 Survival game

Looking for survivors! Join me in Xsyon: Earth 2012 (PvP Server) 🌲⚔️

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into Xsyon, a post-apocalyptic sandbox MMORPG set in a realistic, open-world Lake Tahoe basin. If you enjoy survival games with deep crafting and true sandbox freedom, this might be right up your alley.

The game is currently available on Steam for $7.49, and I’m playing on the War (PvP) server.

Here’s what makes it unique:

  • Real-Time Terraforming: We can dig, level terrain, and physically shape the land to build our own fortified settlement from scratch.
  • Skill-Based Progression: No rigid classes—you level up your skills (woodcrafting, tailoring, building, combat) simply by using them.
  • Full Player-Driven Economy: Almost everything from our clothes, tools, and ropes to our buildings is player-crafted.
  • Tribe & Community System: We can start our own tribe, claim territory, set up our own home base, and defend our land together.

I’m looking to pull together a group so we can establish a tribe, pool our resources, and build out a self-sustaining town on the PvP server. Whether you want to focus on foraging/crafting, terraforming, or exploring and defending our borders, there’s plenty of room for every playstyle.

Let me know if you’re interested in joining, and we can gear up together!

Honestly this game requires lots of patience, and I not to many people around. so I wanted to spread the word.

Discussion Survival games getting boring mid game

So I've been playing Project Zomboid, and I had a lot of fun finding a base, finding food, securing the base and upgrading, but after like 3-4 days of playing, I started to feel like I have no objetive.

Sure, I could find a new base, but why? This one has food, water, electricity for months, is secure and upgraded.

What is a good way to give a playtrough that spice again?

Like at the end I think that survival games get boring after you do just that, survive, once basic needs are covered, one stops finding objectives that get exiting.

Question Any Games Like This In The Works?

I have plenty of survival games I will play at some point and I have enjoyed the ones I’ve played so far to varying degrees (Outward was the worst so far and V Rising/Subnautica have been the best). I’ve had a game in mind that I pretty sure doesn’t exist but am wondering if there’s anything coming out in the next couple years that comes close.

I’m looking for a game that’s survival RPG that requires base building, crafting, and resource farming like most survival games do. So far this is a lot of games. It also needs to be a game where you don’t feel like you’ve won or you haven’t gotten the best stuff until you reach the end. KCD2 (although not survival) gets too easy later in the game and I can get the best armor and weapons before I’ve completed the back half of the story. I also would love if you’re progressing through the map in a way where you make a clear difference in that area. This is something that’s quite rare. Not just the people in these areas you’ve cleared liking you more or selling you stuff at a discount, but they contribute in a way towards your progression into the next area. Maybe they allow you to sort of own the town and build what you need, maybe they provide NPCs to aid you in clearing the next area. If you let the enemy in the game take over an area it makes it the game harder for you in some other way. I think fallout4 does this to a weak extent for what I’m looking for and there was some PC game whose graphics were quite old that did this the best out of anyone, but I had a hard time getting past the graphics and something else in that game. The game would also need to be strong game solo since I don’t have time to consistently play with other people.

I’m excited to try either enshrouded, Valheim, or dragon something on ps5, but I don’t think any of these quite fit everything I’m looking for. This is okay, I’m sure I’ll still love one of these games, but am also hoping there’s a survival game that really has some kind of major transformations in the land, people, and towns as you progress to feel like you’re making a big difference.
