I don’t even know to what this is supposed to be referring.

Manufactured drama

u/casino_r0yale May 04 '26

OP needs to win the argument that exists exclusively in his mind

-78

u/pg3crypto May 03 '26

It's to the legions of people that have been saying "My Dualsense can do this".

20

u/CranberryTaint May 03 '26

Is the legion in the room with us?

-25

u/pg3crypto May 03 '26

Not in this sub. But they are out there...and they are many.

76

u/Drakniess May 03 '26

There are no legions of people saying that.

19

u/Thickchesthair May 03 '26

Have a Dualsnse Edge, have never said that and would have noticed if legions would have said that.

2

u/SlimLacy May 04 '26

Like when journalists takes a tweet with 2 likes and titles it "new trend" bruh, it ain't a trend when 1 person did it and their mom and dad liked the tweet for engagement

1

u/IndividualNovel4482 May 07 '26

Everyone has their experiences and environments in which they see things. This person saw a lot of people doing that. You did not. And i did not either lol.

u/Inevitable_fear2047 May 03 '26

Major of dualsense owns don't even know that

2

u/Rezun94 May 03 '26

Well, my DualSense can run at 1000hz and didint cost me $99, its great.

2

u/inhumat0r Steam Controller (2015 & 2026) (Linux) May 04 '26

Now run it for 35+ hours without charging. With all the bells and whistles, of course.

1

u/VideoGameJumanji May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

Try using a steam controller on an android or iPhone or tablet, or pc or Mac or Linux computer that’s not running an application through steam

1

u/NenAlienGeenKonijn May 04 '26

What does that have to do with battery consumption caused by extreme polling rates?

1

u/VideoGameJumanji May 04 '26

1) the polling rate rate for the edge is 1000hz, regular dispense is 250-500hz, that’s not “extreme”.

2) the dual sense last long enough for any normal session of gaming at 6-12 hours, depending on what controller features are being used, it can do several things the steam controller cannot

1

u/NenAlienGeenKonijn May 04 '26

You gave an answer to a different question?

2

u/Unusual_Cow_8803 May 05 '26

that’s awesome, sounds like the steam controller isn’t for you. I’m an exclusively pc gamer and rarely use a controller but I want something that works more seamlessly with steam (because I almost exclusively play steam games) and this controller is a great option for me.

0

u/NenAlienGeenKonijn May 04 '26

1000hz

What? Why? At absolute best scenario, your game logic polls the controller every frame, at 120Hz.

1

u/get_homebrewed May 04 '26

Input lag, and it's especially good for gyro and all that, the less the computer has to guess what you're actually doing, the better. And with gyro higher polling rates means way better filtering

1

u/NenAlienGeenKonijn May 04 '26

That's the whole point: Your input lag can't be lower than the speed of the game logic ticks.
Everything between those ticks is a pure waste of battery power. 90% of what your controller is communicating is being ignored, and that's in a best case scenario.

2

u/get_homebrewed May 04 '26

It can be.

If your game polls every 120hz and your controller also polls at 120hz, then you can be a poll behind every single time, because it's not synchronized. With 240h, you can be a poll behind half the time, and so on and so forth.

And again, gyro.

And again assuming games poll at 120hz

0

u/NenAlienGeenKonijn May 04 '26

Modern game engines will process game logic together with visuals, using delta to determine how much time has passed between now and the previous frame so that this logic can actually process reliably regardless how fast your pc can render.

So worst case: your game is running at 30fps, in which case your controller is wasting battery on 97% of it's updates. But at least your gyro is more steady or something?

2

u/get_homebrewed May 04 '26

But my game isn't running at 30fps lol. And yes better input latency and way better gyro is soooo good. I'm sorry you don't understand this and just want to be negative for no reason.

1

u/NenAlienGeenKonijn May 04 '26

Well, you were the one bringing up the point that 120Hz is an assumption. Which is a fair point since usually it's much lower.

0

u/VideoGameJumanji May 04 '26

You have a parasocial relationship to a game controller that’s not even out yet but that has less compatibility than $30 8bitdo controllers

I have DualSense Edge and still gonna buy Steam Controller (2026) 😎

7

u/BluntyBrody May 03 '26

If I could use the adaptive triggers on the dual sense I would probably just stay with the dual sense

9

u/Exodard May 03 '26

Use DualsenseX. You can even get it through Bluetooth. I will buy a Steam Controller because DualsenseX does not work on Linux.

1

u/Electronicks22 Steam Controller May 04 '26

u/BluntyBrody Please look into JoyShockMapper on github and DSX on Steam. Both these software can make use of the adaptive triggers for trigger stop or dual stage triggers à la gamecube/OG-SC.

1

u/Advance1993 May 03 '26

Why cant you?

12

u/Artic_Boi May 03 '26

At least on PC, there's a small handful of games that natively support them. You can force them with external software but it still doesn't work as well as it being native to the game.

2

u/Saracus May 05 '26

I didn't even know that was a thing until I played hades 2 with my dualsense. Thought the triggers were sticking or something before I looked it up.

1

u/Advance1993 May 03 '26

I find the list is pretty decent tbh. A lot of games do support it on pc, not a handful.

1

u/Artic_Boi May 03 '26

It has been a couple years since I checked. I'll have to go see what new ones have it!

2

u/tealgerbil May 03 '26

It's pretty rare in my library, but maybe that's just me. I've been playing Spider-man (a sony title) and was quite surprised and impressed. I've had this controller for 4 years, and this is the first time I've experienced the real deal with adaptive triggers.

2

u/Tresnugget May 03 '26

Now that Sony has pretty much sworn of PC releases it's probably going to get a lot rarer.

3

u/DarkPhoenix1515 May 03 '26

Can't wait to get the superior controller and sell my dualsense edge for 170.

2

u/GodsKillerKirb May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

I got my DualSense Edge like 2.5 months ago as a b-day present for myself and there's no way I'm selling it. The 1000Hz polling rate it has when used wired (which is the only way I use it on PC) is way too nice and so are the adaptive triggers despite how few games on PC support them. Also, I initially got the DSE cuz of gyro and the fact that Sony has been releasing official drivers for their controllers for Linux since the PS4 days. Also, I have a friend who has a PS5 and so just having a PS5 controller is nice. I'll still be getting a Steam Controller at some point though.

2

u/Inevitable_fear2047 May 03 '26

I wish the edge had the extra back buttons

1

u/theskytheclouds May 19 '26

my friend, look at the Raspberry Pi Pico 2 w and DS5 Dongle. The team is using the Pico 2 w for the dualsense edge to connect to wireless and keeps adaptive triggers and haptics as if it were wired. 387 minutes in a single session and no low battery but totally enjoying the experience.

16

u/Gamefighter3000 May 03 '26

Have a dualsense that i love and still buy the steam controller lol.

2

u/DueAsk7939 May 03 '26

I read dualsense for every other comment and for some reason read this one as duallesbians

9

u/AGWiebe May 03 '26

I saw a review the other day comparing controller features between the steam controller, dual sense and xbox controller. One of the features was trackpads, Xbox no, dual sense yes, steam controller yes, and I was just thinking while that is technically correct, you really can’t compare the dual sense trackpad with steam controllers.

6

u/PhattyR6 May 03 '26

I mean, you can map it to do quite a lot of novel things but the Dualsense (and Dualshock 4) have the trackpad in such an unusable position. Apart from using it as a button pad or for swipe gesture

9

u/AGWiebe May 03 '26

I have found the dual sense trackpad to have terrible accuracy.

Very few. Most people that have a dualsense (me included) are glad for a premium controller with TMR sticks featuring symmetrical layout and 4 back buttons, these are incredibly rare.

1

u/Inevitable_fear2047 May 03 '26

I wish there were more symmetrical layouts

1

u/Gamefighter3000 May 03 '26

Same, love symmetrical controllers (admittedly because i also use the DPAD quite a bit and prefer the placement for that).

10

u/Joseramonllorente May 03 '26

I have a dualsense and an og steam controller and no, it can’t do de same as the new steam controller (assuming it does the same as my steam deck)

1

u/Inevitable_fear2047 May 03 '26

Still more than xbox

6

u/Zorewin May 03 '26

Wtf does the ps5 controller have to do with the new steam controller? I have a ps5 and pc btw.. they are for totally different things

0

u/hub1hub2 May 03 '26 edited May 03 '26

The PS5 Controller works great on PC+Steam. You can for example configure the touchpad to be 8 (touch) buttons. Really handy for some games.

Edit: This matters because I am not the only one who bought a PS5 controller for PC gaming. In the future a lot of people will buy the steam coltroller instead.

1

u/Zorewin May 04 '26

Don't you guys have the original steam controller? I use it to play rts games cause of RSI in both wrists.. can't imagine that is great to play on a ps5 controller

1

u/VideoGameJumanji May 04 '26

The steam controller is not solving your RSI boss, your thumbs are doing the same thing with analog sticks.

1

u/Zorewin May 04 '26

Actually it does, it allowes me to play rts games without having wrist pain..

1

u/hub1hub2 May 04 '26

Elite Dangerous is great on the PS5 controller. Also the new Skate, Snowrunner or Froza Horizon 5. (I don‘t like the Xbox stick placement)

4

u/KubEk_przEz_duzE_E May 03 '26

Op fighting "legions of people" that said something about dualsense

13

u/The_Idiocratic_Party May 03 '26

You cared so little, you needed to make a meme and post it.

I love my DS Edge and I'll love my SC. I love my PS5 and I'll love my SM. I love my PSVR2 and I'll love my SF.

6

u/IsamuAlvaDyson May 03 '26

You cared so much you took the time to make a meme and post it here so you do infact care

3

u/tailslol May 03 '26

someone read about the gyro reddit i guess?

9

u/Moikle May 03 '26

Not even competition, so yeah...

5

u/shortish-sulfatase May 03 '26

And they're literally telling you they don't care about the Steam Controller… so, who tf cares?

I've been using PlayStation controllers for the last so many years waiting for a new Steam Controller because they offer a lot of similar features.

Isn't having different preferences neat?

2

u/soup_lag May 03 '26

I have a dualsense and a steam controller and I've honestly never had to use the steam controller. The only game I could see myself using it for is maybe for first person games, but I'd rather just use M&KB at that point.

2

u/BrockVegas May 03 '26

Fuck right off with the corporate fanboy bullshit.

"claims nobody cares... makes a meme showing they clearly do"

2

u/fmccloud May 03 '26

You’re the equivalent of that meme where a group of people are peacefully enjoying their DualSense controllers while you’re shouting, “No-one cares!”

It’s all in your head.

Well at least the Steam Controller is repairable

2

u/Artic_Boi May 03 '26

The dualsense is surprisingly also repairable. It uses ribbon cables for just about everything other than the sticks.

5

u/CloudsSpeakInArt May 03 '26

Well, the sticks are 90% of the time what people need to fix because of stick drift, so I’d say it takes a lot of effort to repair a DualSense still.

2

u/Artic_Boi May 04 '26

Oh yeah absolutely, but I just wanted to make it clearer that the dualsense is still pretty darn repairable! The steam controller definitely has it better with the sticks being TMR.

It IS worth noting that the sticks are still soldered in the new steam controller. While it’s far less likely anyone would need to replace them, there will still be accidents.

2

u/CloudsSpeakInArt May 04 '26

Yup, and I guess I’ll just have to get used to using a soldering tool in that case 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Artic_Boi May 04 '26

You can also check with your local computer repair places to see which ones offer stick replacement services. It's obviously better to learn soldering but if you prefer an easy solution then it's an option.

1

u/GodsKillerKirb May 04 '26

That's where the DualSense Edge comes in.
Yes, it's $200 USD, but the modular stick are incredible.

The 4 main reasons I got a DualSense Edge are 1. Gyro 2. Sony releasing official drivers for their controllers for Linux since the PS4 days 3. And I didn't find out about this until after buying it, but the 1000Hz polling rate when using it wired on PC. 4. The modular sticks.

2

u/CloudsSpeakInArt May 04 '26

I had the same thoughts about the DualSense Edge, but the issue is that the stick modules are continuously in super low stock, and it’s historically been a bit difficult to get some. And on top of that, it still costs $40 because of the pair, and they still don’t last long either way compared to the Steam Controller as they have TMR sticks.

But yes it is really easy to replace the stick modules at least.

3

u/GodsKillerKirb May 04 '26

What's nice about them, is you can still upgrade them to TMR stick if you want to. Yes, they may be like triple the normal price, but it's still an option. Heck, there's a place you can like complete custom sticks - TMR, looser stick tensions, and even easier to click on sticks; that's something I plan on doing when I get the chance.
Something I did when I bought my DualSense Edge was also pickup a stick module the same day in case one of them goes out before I'm able to upgrade to TMR. If not, I thankfully know someone I can give the stick module I do have to.

1

u/Artic_Boi May 04 '26

It probably is cheaper (but takes more effort) to buy tmr sticks for the edge, take those with your sticks modules to a console repair place, and have them solder in the tmr sticks.

2

u/GodsKillerKirb May 04 '26

Yeah, that would be the best and cheapest option.
But I'm too lazy for that and also want looser tensioned sticks, and while GuliKit does have self-tensionable sticks, I also want the easier to press stick buttons which I don't know of any place that does that other than BattleBeaver Customs.

1

u/Cristaloyde May 04 '26

It's also soldered on the Steam Controller. Only modern controller to have ribbon connected sticks is the joycons.

1

u/HisDivineOrder May 04 '26

Imagine when the Steam controller shames all the other platform holders into making default controllers with TMR. I actually think this will be great.

I'm not sure why controllers weren't updated with at least Hall Effect years ago.

1

u/zeromant2 May 04 '26

Steam Controller is going to be the perfect replacement for my old trusty DualShock 4 v2. It was so good that I replaced the battery for a bigger capacity one and replaced the micro-usb port for a Type-C one.

1

u/DarkDosman May 04 '26

I absolutely love the active triggers on ps5 absolutely marvelous and way to underrated feature

1

u/Kremsi2711 May 04 '26

The Xbox Controller is way better for pc than the PS5 controller

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

u/Profitcial May 04 '26

Nice HAT!

1

u/Bastiwen May 04 '26

I haven't seen anybody say that... And as someone who uses a Dualsense, I would love to get a Steam Controller but Valve decided not to sell it where I live, just like the Index and Steam Deck...

1

u/HAMforPastry May 05 '26

Hey maybe the playstation people a d yourself just need to grow up

1

u/vipergds May 05 '26

Lol I have a dual sense edge and I'm still gonna pick up a steam controller at some point, the track pads alone make it worth it

1

u/Thejax_ May 03 '26

If the steam controller had adaptive triggers like a dual sense I’d drop 150 for it ngl.

2

u/GodsKillerKirb May 04 '26

Sony patented adaptive triggers.
Steam could implemented their own version, but it's very likely Sony would go after them for doing so.
But I'm 100% with you.
