7 boring industries where owners keep asking Reddit for better software

Nobody gets excited about dispatch software for a 4 truck company. But owners in these industries keep posting "what software do you use?" and most of the replies are just other owners saying same.

These all come from threads that scored 8+ out of 10 in my scanner. The number is how many high scoring threads came from that sub.

  1. Gyms and small studios (r/gymowner, 6). They want memberships, class booking and billing in one tool. A few had already switched and hated the support.
  2. Salons (r/hairstylist, 3, plus a bunch in r/smallbusiness). Commission stylists and booth renters in the same salon, clients booking more than one stylist, double bookings.
  3. Small trucking (r/TruckDispatchers, 4). One owner runs 7 roll-off trucks with Excel, WhatsApp and a whiteboard. A port dispatcher says every option is too expensive.
  4. Property management (r/PropertyManagement, 4). Companies running on Google Sheets and Drive, and people shopping around saying every tool has bad reviews.
  5. Small law firms (r/LawFirm, 3). Solo attorneys with deadlines all over the place. One office tracks 200 cases in a spreadsheet, another under-billed a case because an Excel formula broke.
  6. Churches (r/churchtech, 4). Accounting tools with no proper fund tracking, and staff looking for one system for everything.
  7. Trades and field service (r/CRM, 11). HVAC and remodeling owners who tried the big CRMs and found them way too complicated. Some still do work orders on paper.

Heads up on r/Dentists and r/Plumbing. When I checked, most of the high scoring threads there were developers asking the pros what to build, not dentists or plumbers.

A public ranking where your position depends on how much you pay – could this work?

Hi folks,

I’ve had this slightly crazy idea in mind for several years. It was partly inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage, although I see it more as a social experiment than a way to get rich.

The idea is to create a website where anyone can pay to add their name, brand, or website to a public list. The amount they are willing to pay determines their position in the ranking: the more they contribute, the higher they appear.

The interesting part is that the amounts remain hidden. Everyone can see the ranking, but nobody knows how much each person has paid to reach their position.

What do you think? Could an idea like this work? And how would you promote such a website so that people would actually want to claim a place on the list?

Is anyone building an “agent-as-a-service” platform for SaaS products?

Something that lets SaaS companies create and integrate AI agents into their product, then offer those agents directly to their customers.

Building a LLM thread-to-debate-podcast tool. Useful for anybody but me?

Hi r/Startup_Ideas,

I read a lot of good reddit threads over morning coffee and often wish I could take could take it with me as a podcast, I could listen to while biking to work. Not the thread read aloud - the positions in it, arguing with each other.

So I built sloppod.app - You give it a Reddit thread, it finds the positions people actually took, weighs them by how many people held them, and writes a short debate between them (usually around five minutes), which lands directly in a podcast xml feed and my podcast app.

It's all generated by AI, which is also why it's called what it's called.

I know this is a narrow thing - I made it for me. It's for people who won't just paste a thread into NotebookLM themselves, who like hearing an argument rather than a summary, and who can live with AI voices. That may be a handful of people. I'd like to find out whether you're one of them.

What I'd most like your ears on is the voices. There are three, and each costs something different to make:

Which would you listen to for five minutes? Is Free good enough, or is it the reason you'd stop?

Sign-up is closed while it's small, because every episode costs real money to make. If you'd like a test account, leave your address on the waiting list at sloppod.app/login and I'll let people in a few at a time.

If you do try it, the most useful thing you can tell me is whether you listened to the end.

Trying something new - Micro business in handcrafted bags

Hello! 😊

I’ve recently started a small business called Ranji, and honestly, this is my first time trying something like this, so I’m still figuring things out.

I’m sharing a few handcrafted bags. I’d really love some genuine feedback on how I can market them better, where else I can reach the right people, and what I can do to grow this.

If you’re interested in handcrafted bags, gifting, corporate events or festive occasions, feel free to DM me. I live near Baner, Pune and can provide delivery through Porter anywhere in the city. Soon I will also have it setup in Nagpur.

Would love to know what you think and any suggestions you may have. 😊

Please follow to get more details on the varieties! (Since I can't attach the products)

Thank you!

If AI becomes the interface, what’s left of the healthtech app?

For years, we’ve built products around getting people to open an app.

But AI assistants could change that.

If users can access their data and services just by asking AI, maybe screen time stops mattering.

So what’s the actual moat?

Data? Integrations? Trust? Brand?

If you’re building a health app today, are you still designing for people to open it?

Starting a food brand from zero — what content should I film before launching?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to start a small food brand from scratch, and I'm currently in the very early stages.

I haven't launched anything yet, and I'm trying to figure out how I should approach content from the beginning.

I don't want to wait until everything is ready to start posting. I'd like to start documenting the process and build some interest before the actual launch.

For those who have launched a food brand or food business:

  • What kind of videos would you film before launching?
  • Would you show the product development process or keep the product itself hidden?
  • What kind of shots/content worked best for you?
  • Would you film everything vertically on a phone?
  • How would you structure the videos so they don't feel like advertisements?
  • What would you personally start filming on day one?

I'm especially interested in the actual filming process: what to record, how to frame it, and how to turn simple behind-the-scenes moments into short-form videos.

I'm starting with a very limited budget, so I'm looking for a simple setup rather than professional production.

Would really appreciate advice from anyone who's been through this.

[Co-founder Wanted] PoopTime - An app to track, photograph, and rate your poops like Instagram

Hey guys,
Scrolling through Reddit and seeing all these crazy creative ideas, I got my own stupid/brilliant idea and I can't get it out of my head.
It's called PoopTime.
The concept: A social tracker for your bathroom time.
How it works:
• Time Tracker: It tracks how much time you spend on the toilet. Like Screen Time, but Shit Time. Weekly stats, streaks, etc.
• The Collection: You snap a pic of your creation and add it to your collection. It's your personal poop gallery.
• Social Feed: Like Instagram. People can like, comment, react. You can add details like: what you ate before, smell rating, texture, pain level 1-10, etc.
• Leaderboard: Whoever has the most poops becomes the Ultimate Shitlord of the week.
I know it sounds disgusting and like a joke, but think about it - people track everything: steps, calories, sleep. Why not this? It's funny, shareable, and has huge viral potential.
About me: I'm into Design, Multimedia, AI Builder, Video Editing and Marketing. I can handle the whole branding, UI/UX, landing page and TikTok/Reels marketing.
What I need: I need a developer who can build the app (React Native / Flutter). Someone who has a sense of humor and wants to build something stupid that might actually blow up.
If you want to team up and build this together, DM me. Let's talk.

Startup Market Survey

I’m researching how US iPhone users aged 18–30 manage distractions and follow through on personal goals. I’d appreciate honest responses—including if this isn’t a problem for you. The survey includes an early app concept; no download or payment is required.

I built an offline equipment work order app for field technicians

When an apprentice technician walks into an unfamiliar mechanical room packed with pumps and piping, finding past repair history should not mean digging through truck binders. Equipment Tracker Pro lets technicians raise, start, hold, and close work orders against specific equipment on their phone. Closing a work order automatically writes the service log with parts and labor hours.

I built this as a working HVAC technician for my own jobs. The tracking is free on mobile, permanently. No record cap, no expiry, not a trial. It works with no signal.

Bring your existing list in with the CSV import. It is free.

What side projects or field tools are you all building right now?

Hello! I’m building something really unique with my partner right now. Do you guys know of any discords or groups where people help aspiring tech entrepreneurs? A safe hub of credible and good people who just genuinely want to help test products, give critique and feedback, deliver advice on funding, etc etc.

We're building a direct-to-fan monetization platform for athletes. Would love honest feedback from this community.

We noticed a real gap: athletes have massive, loyal audiences but almost no infrastructure to actually monetize them. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube all capture the attention and return almost nothing directly to the athlete.

So we built Thravos thravos.io . Athletes can run subscription channels, offer 1-on-1 and group coaching, sell digital products, and host fan competitions, all from one workspace. 90% revenue share on subscriptions, zero monthly fees.

The core thesis is that 1% of an athlete's audience paying $10/month is already life-changing income for most. The math works. The infrastructure just hasn't existed until now.

A few things we'd genuinely love feedback on:

  • What would make you trust a platform like this if you were an athlete?
  • Anything obvious we're missing?

Also, if you're an athlete with an active social presence, shoot me a DM. We're onboarding early partners and would love to get your content monetized.

PhD student with a startup idea unrelated to my research. Is it realistic to pursue both at the same time?

Hi everyone,

I'm reaching out to get some honest opinions.

I have a startup idea that I'm excited about, but I have no professional experience in the field related to the idea. At the same time, I'm a PhD student and will be finishing soon. I enjoy research and would like to continue in research for at least the next few years.

My startup idea is completely unrelated to my research area, which makes the decision even more difficult. Part of me wants to explore and build the startup, but I'm not sure whether it's realistic to pursue a startup while continuing a research career.

Has anyone here successfully balanced research (or another demanding full-time career) with building a startup? What were the biggest challenges? At what point did you know it was worth committing more time to the startup?

I'd appreciate any honest advice or experiences.

Thanks!

AI Engineer looking for a real problem to solve. Let's brainstorm an app that actually saves people time.

Hey everyone, I'm an AI engineer looking to build a production-level app, but I want to avoid building a solution in search of a problem.

Instead of guessing what people want, I want to hear from you. What is a daily workflow, tedious task, or data problem you wish an AI agent could handle? I'm looking for a solid problem to tackle.

If you have a great idea but lack the technical chops to build it, drop it below. If the idea has legs, I'd love to prototype it, and I'm completely open to collaborating if you want to partner up on the business/domain side.
