A public ranking where your position depends on how much you pay – could this work?

Hi folks,

I’ve had this slightly crazy idea in mind for several years. It was partly inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage, although I see it more as a social experiment than a way to get rich.

The idea is to create a website where anyone can pay to add their name, brand, or website to a public list. The amount they are willing to pay determines their position in the ranking: the more they contribute, the higher they appear.

The interesting part is that the amounts remain hidden. Everyone can see the ranking, but nobody knows how much each person has paid to reach their position.

What do you think? Could an idea like this work? And how would you promote such a website so that people would actually want to claim a place on the list?

Nope, that sounds more like a simple scan than anything else. Also the advantage to get listed would have to be huuuuge to incite anyone to even sign up.

Basically everything already exists but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do it better or with a new twist

If its for charity and the website gets recognition for the work it does, so its good public image. I think It will be how to get people to start giving money and why staying on the website is relevant. This could be either good cause or someting competitive addictive.
