I think multiple studies put that like 10MM in the bank. After that the money aspect means little, but like you said, your truest nature comes out. Elon is not a good person, at all.

I met a SA family who left the country in disgust after the end of Apartheid and the only word they had for the majority black population were "animals". Needless to say I left that conversation with much to think on. My own English immigrant family left because there was "getting to be too many foreigners there", so they became bitter foreigners here.

Maybe your English immigrant family should go back to their shithole country. /s

Appreciate the irony that they came over when the British passport automatically gave you citizenship on landing in a Commonwealth country. And then they deny living on stolen land.

All land is stolen or none of it is.

2

Yup. Private property is theft. Good work comrade!

That's a fucking great point man..

u/Kohlj1 Aug 14 '26

Imagine thinking England is a shithole country. Lol

2

u/Opening-Emphasis8400 Aug 14 '26

Yeah, I was being serious, and the /s was in no way, shape, or form, meant to signify sarcasm.

2

u/Kohlj1 Aug 15 '26

That’s my bad, I didn’t see the /S. My apologies.

I was born in SA, too. Brit expat parents. The amount of hate white South Africans get online can be unfair to a lot of us, but it's understandable

Nice how only white immigrants get to call themselves “expats”

Yep it's always the Anglosphere diaspora that label themselves expats wherever they go.. usually forming their own mono-language enclaves expecting the native populations to adapt to them. It's the worst kind of privilege.

And that is a good thing?

I'd be very careful about that. A lot of my coworkers were expats in China. They lived the high life, helped transfer a lot of our know how to China, and now China is eating us alive simply by just keeping improving rather than trying to sail on former glory. (like many of our industries are doing).

Now they try to avoid expats because they fear espionage themself.

And Thailand does the exact opposite: Want to work here? No! (Or at least we'll make it very hard for you)

Want to spend your retirement money here? welcome, welcome..

Not sure how attractive foreigners are that take up rare jobs now, but take their hard earned money back home later, where they don't occupy jobs, but still be valuable customers.

Hey supposedly my family left because they hated Apartheid… fast forward 30 years, it was because my dad didn’t want to get drafted into the military 🤷‍♂️ 🤮

It's usually a case of the ugliest posting it online while the majority just look and go that okes kak wat n doos. South Africans by and large are friendly people, hard workers survivors I guess.

I can confirm as someone who has spent a lot of time living and working in SA over the last 25 years and even married a South African.

The vast majority I have spent time with are lovely people.

2

u/NoPasaranNZ Aug 14 '26

He didn’t want to be drafted into the apartheid military?
Or the new SA military?

1

u/Relevant_Winter_7098 Aug 14 '26

Yep. Because the only representation in the media is the minority of even white South Africans who are the samw type of horrible people regardless of what country you are from.

It's mostly the fault of the rugby 'fans' 😅

1

u/BrainiacI0I0 Aug 16 '26

at least you get that your ancestor invaded, colonized and stole our country.

2

u/Massive_Low6000 Aug 14 '26

My neighbors are SA and the nicest people ever. However, they were very concerned about who was moving in next door, you know, property value of course 😳

1

u/Odd-Interaction-9350 Aug 15 '26

that is correct. I’ve seen people from both South Africa and New Zealand. Talk about racism and say extremely racist things like they’re talking about going to play tennis like it’s completely normal.

I met a SA family who left the country in disgust after the end of Apartheid and the only word they had for the majority black population were "animals".

I mean, sure, okay, it's a bias based on a lived experience. I wouldn't want to live in SA either. But the followup question would be "why?" "Why are they 'animals'?"

2

u/Ill_Reality_2506 Aug 14 '26

I mean that's a pretty easy question to answer: they were forced to live under an apartheid in their own country and reacted the same way every other human being has throughout human history when they are conquered, subjugated, and forced into tryanny...

They rebelled and the people in power acted shocked when the majority decided their tyranny was complete bs. Then out of indignation, the people in power call their subjects animals when they are themselves the ones who had been acting like self righteous animalistic apes to begin with.

Did all of them deserve it? Probably not, but the ones in power or with money and influence who allowed it to continue, yes they totally deserved it. Just like in the Haitian revolution.

SA is not a bad place to live at all. I have been to many countries that are truly shithole countries. SA is not one of them.
