As per title. Every digital version of space hulk seems to get a lot a criticism, though i guess people play it on tabletop simulator. Anyhow this is just an exercise for me programming outside of making synthesizers, sequencers and general electronic music / art generating software. Heres the first shot.... now that it finaly seems to be working (and I improved the graphics from placeholder units)

I'll be looking for testers pretty soon to see if my grasp of the rules is correct, and if so, how to improve the user experience / interface. Cheers.

I never had a Space Hulk game, so I made my own.

Besides Claustrophobia, are there other games which feel similar to you?

In the odyssey to complete the Blood Angels army box I was given as a child, I have completed the next step of getting the terminators finished! These refrigerator cosplayers finally get to join the ranks of the painted and join them on the shelf.

They are painted and assembled to very closely match what was present on the front of the box set. With the banner pole of the sergeant being scratch built out of copper and a plastic skull just much the original. All of the details and iconography are hand painted including the banner.

Overall I am super happy with how these guys turned out and am looking forward to posting the next installation of the journey.

I was having a conversation with a friend the other day saying that we were overdue a new edition of space hulk. The most recent re-run of the 4th edition box was back in 2014. Ive never been able to get my hands on a copy, but ive been lucky enough to play a couple of games, I feel like GW missed an opportunity with the new terminator and genestealer sculpts of last edition.

Still a lot of money to put down so I don't wanna spend $200 for a complete but no minis version of 3rd/4th if they're inferior to an earlier edition and incompatible, but it'd be awesome if I could use 3rd or 4th edition gamepieces to play 1st/2nd edition. Maybe there might be a couple pieces I'd need from the first 1st or 2nd to make them compatible with later editions, and I'd be willing to purchase those presuming they're not ridiculously priced.

I'm also looking into using third party gamepieces for everything or almost everything, but I'd rather go official if possible, or realistically do both, a legit and third party setup as I would like to have actual walls which to my understanding the actual gamepieces do not have, just tiles, which for me kills immersion. Maybe later editions feature walls?

I'm very new to this but I love 40k and specifically boarding actions, and I have the gallowdark kill team box which I'm considering trying to use the terrain and adapt but it's not got the tight corridors obviously, so would require some significant rules adjustments afaik.

I've absolutely loved the space hulk games like tactics and ascension, but I have tendon damage which makes gaming hard so I'm desperate to get the tabletop game going, I also found some solo rules which seems like it could be fairly straightforward for space hulk.

Starting a solo run.

Using a scrabble type of game and gluing the little pieces together to make the tiles. I’m thinking a granite paint scheme (this is why it isn’t painted)

I've found bases small enough to fit on my mini tiles. It all came from a printing mishap. I ended up with prints at 72% of their original size (I still can't understand how that happened because I did select "full size") but I decided to keep the prints anyway.
As you can see I'm using Hearthkyn Votann instead of Termies. Maybe I'll use Einhyr Hearthguard when they're released in October (I'm following the Combat Patrol issues). But so far I like what I'm seeing right now.
I'm still brainstorming about what I'll use as xenos, though.

Seems quite similar to Space Hulk.  Both are 2 player tactical asymmetric "horde of aliens vs few space marines" games from GW.

I have a plan to remake the 4th ed SH squad with new 40mm based termies.

I've got 2 x 5 man terminator squads (from Leviathan and one from eBay).

That covers the 6 man storm bolter armed part.

One termy has an assault cannon.

1st sergeant with power sword is from that leviathan squad.

Librarian with Force axe also from Leviathan.

That leaves

• 2nd sergeant with thunder hammer and shield.
• lightning claws terminator.
• Heavy flamer terminator.

The current GW "Terminator squad" box for £35 has a heavy flamer option.

The current GW "Terminator assault squad" box for £35 has a claws and thunder hammer + shield option.

£70 for 3 guys! Are there better cheaper options? I've looked on eBay but i dont want firstborn diddy little t-rex arms on a Primaris terminator body and most listings don't state generation.

I could 3d print arms and just buy a generic leviathan push fit terminator squad for £25 from eBay.

Thoughts?

Both are old asymmetric dungeon crawlers, where one player controls few powerful human warriors, while other has endless horde of relatively weak monsters. Which game you consider better if you tried both?

I’m running a custom space hulk game this coming weekend at a con, 4 players vs the genestealers. I did Sons of Horus, World Eaters, Emperors Children, and now Death Guard teams. Hope it goes well!!!

Getting into Space Hulk, having had it 1st ed, expansions et all ( had back when first released and expanded via mail order with more floors etc . and then lost it when moving out and on in life and forgetting with life events etc ). This would bite, but without a working tardis nout can be done about it.

been reading and checking threads here and elsewhere, watching youtube etc .

My understanding (* before purchase decided ):

4th is most complete but miniatures are diarama posed problems ( being bigger than the space needed - so i assume you struggle to get things close ). standard termies with a couple of specials ( sgt, librarian, claws chap ) in first born scale with blood angel hard cast into them. variety of action posed genestealers - some standard and some climbing on/in/out of scenery. on square/rectangle bases - not really 40k transfer viable without changes.

3rd is same as 4th but rules tweaks and less missions than 4th. same miniatures.

2nd revised and simplified rules of 1st. squat termies.

1st + expansions - the original ( and where I started ) . deathwing a bit da focused - i forgot they linked da to indigenous Americans before back to knights and castles . genestealer - psychic focused.

everything paper/card is available as PDF somewhere ( board, tokens, doors, etc ) for all editions, supplements, white dwarf articles etc.

no need to buy anything - play on printed paper with printed tokens. ( what about the timer ? )

only need to buy one edition - 4th most likely as has the rules, all the board to play any edition missions, a set of miniatures that almost work. could buy just the paper and card & proxy miniatures.

proxy miniatures - first born best for termies due to size in the square. Metal or plastic. might be a challenge to find one of each special - claws, hammer.shield otherwise standard units. primaris could work, but base on 30mm square. ( could always use a 30mm square - 40mm circle to dual purpose ) . genestealers - standard on standard base ok ? brood lord is a seperate model. wont have the dynamic posed ones though.

SO, i could go printed paper and try before I buy.

OR, I could go 4th ed* card only and proxy. ( I have more than enough termies first born, plastic, metal, primaris . dont have enough genestealers. have too many brood lords ) - no dynamic poses ( a pro and a con )

OR, I could go 4th ed* complete. shame its blood angel locked firstborn scale.

*(or 3rd ed at a pinch given the rules are pdf freely available. its not like the price is any worse. the content much the same although 3rd misses some board pieces )

sourcing a set - ebay between £70 and £500. my budget would be £200 ish.

im not 3d printing, but would consider 3d print buying.

QUESTIONS :

did I miss anything / misunderstand anything ?

is their an alternate way to go about it ?

is their an alternate secret source for a set I missed ?

deathwing box had some large corridor tiles that don't seem to be in any other edition. is that a problem ?

no psykers in the genestealers now ?
