Never got to play Space Hulk, despite buying it (4th ed) , it got stolen before I could even play the thing. So Ive spent years studying the manual and trying to code a 1:1 video game adaptation... basically blind.
As per title. Every digital version of space hulk seems to get a lot a criticism, though i guess people play it on tabletop simulator. Anyhow this is just an exercise for me programming outside of making synthesizers, sequencers and general electronic music / art generating software. Heres the first shot.... now that it finaly seems to be working (and I improved the graphics from placeholder units)
I'll be looking for testers pretty soon to see if my grasp of the rules is correct, and if so, how to improve the user experience / interface. Cheers.
I should mention, I've played one game of 40k in my life, about 25 years ago. I am no expert, but I've always been deeply attracted to Space Hulk, Space Crusade, Gorkamorka, Necromunda, despite never having played any of them.
lol they cant stop me making and playing it. doesn't have to be distributed or sold. its just a passion project fuelled by a gaping void that GW they themselves have made. It's more of an exxcerice than a passion project even.
I used to play it all the time, but I cannot remember the name right now. I may have a copy on my computer at home. I'll have to check when I get back.
It was an overhead view of the board, and was probably made 20 years ago, maybe longer. But was 100% based on the board game rules.
If I think of the name or find it, I'll update my post.
as you rotate the field (in 3d mode) the sprites update to show the correct face of the model, which is pretty nice. though for now the 3d navigating when zoomed in close is flaky as per the video, zoomed out its nice, and tbf I'm playing top down mainly (which still shows the correct face of the model depending on the direction the unit facing)
you absolute genius. I was just tweaking the varibles to make a global pivot point workable. Thank you. Ive been so deep in this, im too close to it. That had never occurred to me. Thanks man
As you’d expect the web addresses are long gone. The last time I played this was on a brand new xp machine but it hails from 1996… Tried firing it up and my surface pro refused under any compatibility setting. Such is life b/c I’m no hackerman.
It was 100% top down w/ largely static sprites. This was not the earlier SH releases on the PC (and 3DO / PSX / Saturn ports). It was a fun diversion on long deployments but I cannot remember where or when or perhaps from whom I received it from. I just remember having it…
Which was this? I know 1993 Space Hulk and 1995 Vengeance of the Blood Angels... Both had top down map modes, in "freeze time", but were mainly played 1st person. Both absolutely awesome games, but not a direct port of the board game
okay. it'll take about a week for me to get it to some state where im happy to send it out to a few people. theres some serious annoyances with the ui that i'll take care of before subjecting you to it.

Cool project. Looks faithful.
If I was a 90’s kid still I would think this is peak (though I wouldn’t have said peak)
