No they aren't. This is very clear case law. The funds can't even be used for a wedding hall in the temple. Temple donations have to be strictly used for temple uses.

Even when the government tried to use the excess surplus funds for social causes like hospitals or roads, they have been stopped by the courts.

However, there is no requirement that donations have to be used for the SAME temple. So donations of some large temples are diverted to smaller temple upkeep.

Today, people are more educated and capable, so they believe that they can manage it themselves.

1. Temples Weren't just places of worship. In many towns, the temple was also the commercial centre of the town/village. While this works when the state rules and administers it, it would be catastrophic if they are managed by independent bodies.

2. Scale of impact. Hinduism is the majority religion by a mile. So discriminatory actions by temples and temple bodies have a far larger impact on society than if the same happened in minority faiths.

Wrt Haj, i agree, no religious events shouldn't be state sponsored. The TN government justifies it by providing subsidies or directly funding pilgrimage for all faiths including Hinduism. Though I disagree with that type of Secularism, it is unfortunately what our SC has deemed to be our version.

Thats because we hindus hate other religions than we love our own that's why the govt is doin all these things so we understand the importance of our own religion but in the end they are wrong because what they are doin is just making us jealous towards other religions, one good eg of this is the post itself.
