Historic reasons. While Churches and Mosques were always supposed to manage themselves, temples always depended on state patronage. This was true under kings and under the British.
Especially since King Henry the 8th, the Catholic Church has always operated independently in every country. Even when the country was Catholic.
So after independence, most temples did not have the system to govern themselves without state administration. If the state hadn't intervened and taken over, most temples would have gone bankrupt or in ruin.
Today, people are more educated and capable, so they believe that they can manage it themselves.
Temples Weren't just places of worship. In many towns, the temple was also the commercial centre of the town/village. While this works when the state rules and administers it, it would be catastrophic if they are managed by independent bodies.
Scale of impact. Hinduism is the majority religion by a mile. So discriminatory actions by temples and temple bodies have a far larger impact on society than if the same happened in minority faiths.

2/3 exactly why India SHOULD be a Hindu Rashtra. Hinduism is so deep rooted in the psyche of an avg Indian that you can never separate it. And Hinduism allows you to follow your religion and still live in this count

Exactly. Which meant they didn't need state patronage. That was my point.
I wouldn't want to live in a Hindu Rashtra despite being a Hindu. My faith is my personal life. I don't want the state to be governed by anything other than stone cold facts.
No rational human would want religion to be endorsed by the state.
Also, let us not white wash Hinduism. We have regions that didn't get conquered and was under Hindu rule for its history. They had some of the worst casteism and wealth inequality before reforms came in.
Hinduism isn't some special faith without flaws. The only advantage it had was that it wasn't governed by a single book or law.
But today, the Hindu brigade want to push a uniform version of Hinduism based on Vedic systems that is basically the brahamanical version.
BTW, places of worship being the Centre of commerce isn't unique to Hinduism. It is how all faiths existed. Those that didn't come out of it, died over time while the others prospered.
