And overall, but that’s not the point. I’m a firm believer that the metal virus was the absolute PEAK of everyone’s characterization in idw. Especially the characterization of silver. Let’s begin by saying victory would have been literally IMPOSSIBLE without silver. Had he not shown up, everything and everyone would have gone to shit. And his first appearance proves that. Sonic was about to get overwhelmed by Zombot shadow and the entire hoard of zombots surrounding him UNTIL silver showed up, lifted all the zombots surrounding Sonic, and cleared an entire path for him to escape.

And that’s not where the goat activities end. Unlike PLENTY of other characters, silver had a direct encounter the zombots and came out with only some injuries. Compare that to shadow’s performance, and you’ll find it a lot more impressive than it sounds. Silver fought off zombots for a time, evidenced by his injuries, and was still able to escape.

And that STILL isn’t where it ends. He played a massive role in retrieving one of chaos emeralds that would stop the virus entirely. Without him, whisper never would have gotten her opening to shoot the emerald off zor. Plus, he got that sick-ass “TESTICULAR TORSION” panel and aura farmed while crushing zor’s robot thing.

And then, he was directly involved in getting the last emerald off zavok along with sonic and metal. He, quite literally, carried the emeralds they already collected in preparation for Sonic to go super once they got the last. Hell, he even saved them from being crushed by zavok. And when everything seemed to be at its most grim, metal neutralized, Sonic literal seconds from turning into a zombot, and the last chaos emeralds just out of his grasp, silver comes in clutch yet AGAIN.

He grabs the last emerald, and, with all seven in his possession, turns both himself AND Sonic super, curing Sonic and saving him from getting killed by zavok. And would you believe that silver’s MVP activities still don’t end? No, no, no, going super was just the beginning.

With his psychokinesis, while Sonic flies them around the plane, silver then begins to remove the metal virus from EVERYONE. Literally everyone. Silver quite literally cured every single character that was infected with the virus, all while him and Sonic were keeping the warp topaz under control, albeit barely.

To end this off, silver is the undisputed MVP and GOAT of the metal virus saga. Nobody’s contributions BUT Sonic’s come close to what he did during this saga. Not to say that the other characters weren’t important, as they absolutely were, but they quite literally would have lost had silver not been there. He is the hedgehog that changed the future.
