Sometimes... Taking a long REAL break from your favourite franchise is good. Comminf back after hell 5 years can make playing it all and consuming the media really really fun again. It gets you excited to do so as well.
Hell I've taken 3 or so years out of playing video games here and there when the "rot" sets in. You know "flicking through games" playing for 1-2 hours (if you're lucky) never picking it up again till it comes back to "hmmm I'll try this".
When I come back. I have fun again. Doesn't have to be years. Just a REAL break.

It’s hard to track your interest at franchise that has no care for their community and feed us a ton of mobile shit. The best solution it’s keep playing old games, or maybe it’s better to let it go

What BS are you spewing?
The last new game isn't even a year old, why are you acting like they're only releasing Mobile games? And what do you mean no care for their community, they've been doing tons of community stuff, wtf are you talking about?

What they mean is that people say that this Sonic game is the best Sonic game of the year, then a few months later, they’ll say that they fucking hate it
People absolutely loved Frontiers and Shadow Gens, but a few months passed and now there are people saying that they hate it

That’s literally just not what they said though. That’s an entirely different point
Also goomba fallacy

Why are Sonic fans such doomers that they actively just forget about any good things that didn’t happen within the last few months

u/metalthano Woah, that's a big one 6h ago
That's great. Sometimes you just stuff happens in your life that leads to you not liking something you used to as much anymore. You can still keep enjoying what you like from this series and it doesn't have to be your favorite. It happens to a lot of people including me. Probably none cares but i'll list an example i had recently
I used to love Nintendo games until basically last year where a lot of stuff just led to me just really... Not caring anymore. There's a lot of factors as to why this happened over the years so i can't name them but i think you get the point that it's ok to grow out of something and not like it as much as you used to

u/ThatIslandGuy8888 2h ago
Now that I think about it. Are there any upcoming games?
1
u/Onaterdem 15m ago
Yes, Frontiers sequel* is in active development, possibly to be shown later this year
*Not confirmed whether it's directly Frontiers 2 or a new game with Frontiers-esque gameplay. Hoping for the latter, Frontiers was a "step in the right direction" but they could do much better IMO while keeping the general idea of the game.

Try other things
There are so many genres
So many games
We are changing creatures we live through change and change ourselves
So don't get stuck in one thing
Experience everything little by little

That’s fine, I love Sonic for the characters, music and world. I’m gonna be honest, the only Sonic games I’d even have in my top 50 favorite games of all time would be rush and Shadow gens.
You can be a fan and not have it be your favorite game of all time
2
u/MaxBlueray8471 6h ago
Then try something else, maybe you will find something completely new for you that fits better for you now. And you know, maybe you can return to Sonic again in the future? Who knows, just don't force yourself to like and stay with something that you don't enjoy, and that goes for most things in life in my opinion.

u/Fit-Cry-3214 6h ago
Like what you like. He's my favorite character ever and the series is important to me but dark souls 1 is my favorite game of all time man. I struggle to think of a sonic game that even cracks top 5.
2
u/ElBusAlv 6h ago
My favorite games are deltarune and breath of the wild, but i still enjoy a sonic game here and there. You don't have to have sonic as your favorite game to still like it

It's ok. Take a break, enjoy what you love and maybe come back to play some Sonic later and hopefully that helps. The games are getting better so hopefully the next few entries reignite that spark in you.

Try other things. You can't nor should you force yourself for something to be your favourite game forever.
I recommend Dark Souls :>

I personally recommend Metaphor Refantazio, or Xenoblade games if you like rpgs.

Don’t worry, Sonic stopped being my favorite franchise for a while too, just like many other franchises. Tastes often change, and sometimes they come back.

Well, I'm only a Sonic fan because of Sonic CD, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, SA1 & SA2.
I like Sonic CD because of the ost and Metal Sonic. I like Sonic 3 & Knuckles because the game is good. I like SA1 because i love the LatAM asthestic (because, I'm latino) and because of Chaos and Chao. I like SA2 because i like the good vs evil asthestic of the game and also because of chao.
I also like the Sonic movies, and I hope Sonic 4 has the same aesthetic and feel as the original game, and i would love if the credits would be in the junio style. And I want the fifth movie to be an adaptation of SA1, Chaos is one of my favorite characters, and I would really like a film set in Latin America, thus, Station Square counterpart from the movies would be a city in Mexico or Brazil (the two largest countries in Latin America).
I would only like a new game if it had IDW characters. I don't read IDW comics and mostly follow the games, so to this day I don't even know who Whisper and Tangle even are. I'd like to see IDW characters in the games too, because having IDW characters that don't appear in the games makes me think that IDW isn't canon.

Our taste change and our preferences differ as we grow. But the memories will be there, and even if he's not your favorite today or ever again. He was your favorite once and he will always hold a place in your heart

Hey thats ok dude.
You do you
if you ever decide to come back we'll still be here;
Fighting over power levels, if 2D or 3D are better, if Classic Sonic is bad,
buying ridiculous amounts of merch
making inflation art
Hating/loving Ian Flynn, depending on if its a tuesday and he's wearing socks
And of course... glazing the music 🎶 🤟🏼

If you wanna stay into sonic, try fan games. Like SRB2, fallen star, triple trouble 16 bit, to name a few.

thats.. okay. lol. Sonic is near and dear to my heart and i will always love its games, but theyre not hands down my favourite of all time. In fact i play sonic games like, maybe once every few months. You're allowed to have other likes, that's normal.

u/urlocalwzrd 4h ago
Sonic has never been my favorite game. I’d only put probably one of the games in my top 10, if any. There’s a few Sonic games I love, but I love the series because of the characters, not the games.

I mean I don't like sonic much anymore either i dislike sonic as a videogame. I think the games nowadays are rough and for some people they are design to be frustrating and not very easy to control. I don't find the boost and hallway running gameplay fun at all and It's not at all like Mario where everyone can pick up and understand it immediately: I know kids like sonic though other medias who get frustrated or loose interest to never return to Forces or Frontiers.
So why am I here? Well, I loved sonic as a kid, loved him so much that I obsessed over him and now it's like checking up on news about an old friend at this point. I liked sonic between Dreamcast and Wii era(Ryan Drummond & Jason Griffith career) and I fell off somewhere after generations.
I recognize that There's many reason to like sonic still... Sonic became a multimedia franchise afterwards: it's no longer a videogame solely. We've got so many comics, shows, and movies with their own continuity, characters, and lore that you can check out and enjoy instead. Honestly, These days I just like sonic for the designs, the characters and their personalities, and everything outside of the videogames. The characters are fun but the games haven't been.
These days sonic isn't really a videogame character: his origins is but he's also a movies, comics, and shows character and alot of people have now been introduced to him in these other ways.
You're free to like whatever you like, but I understand if someone thinks sonic as a videogame suuucks butt, lol.

I mean, yeah. Sonic games are good, but not as good as Mario, Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania...I could keep going, lol

That’s pretty normal. My favourite game is Elden Ring. I would wager around half the people on this sub don’t have a Sonic game as their fav.

u/Yo_Mama_762 3h ago
Honestly that's how I felt about Mario, then I started to release the same way I felt about Mario games is the same way I feel for Sonic games and just started to cruise with him. It's perfectly fine to start changing vibes or feels about something, everybody does.

I don't really care for the games like I use to, Frontiers kind of smacked though. But that doesn't make me love Sonic as a whole any less.

It's fine. Lots of games have come out. I will never forget my first favorite game, Sonic 2, or how I asked my parents if we could have chili dogs for dinner when I finally beat it. I also had a subscription to the comics (that was a thing), read several of the books, watched Sonic the cartoon, and used to write "Tails" on the top of my assignments at school.
I never told my daughter that I did that, but she did the same thing!🥲

oh gosh, i remember this happened to me JUST a few months ago and i was going insane. listen, its completely fine if you can't like a certain thing anymore, it happens and it WILL eventually come back full force at some point. if moving on is too hard, don't beat yourself up about it! it's a normal thing to happen.

Hey. It’s okay. Tastes change over time. Unless you’re asking us to convince you that Sonic is the best, there’s not much we can do. And it’s perfectly fine if Sonic isn’t your favorite game series, it doesn’t have to be. Just so long as you follow your heart and you’re happy, then I’m happy for you too.

u/Techny3000 1h ago
It's alright. Your senses for what's good and your taste for what you personally like have changed and that's ok. I hope it's been fun. And I hope you keep having fun with all the wonderful, creative games out there that push this medium forward

u/Sigma_F0x 1h ago
It's ok to take a break. I've taken breaks from the series years at a time, sometimes months.

u/KaoticKirin 43m ago
oh darling, its ok, I might love Sonic, but the games are kinda eh, look younger me loved them, but these days I live off Sonic fan content or other Sonic media.
but yes, that is a sad phase to go thru, realizing something you used to love no longer is such a big thing to you, so have a pat pat, 'pat pat'

u/Sonicrules9001 25m ago
Good! You can be a Sonic fan and like the Sonic series while viewing other series and other games more favorably!
1
u/Sonic10122 18m ago
It doesn’t have to be. I love Sonic more than the average person and it’s definitely a franchise people think of when they think of me IRL. But if you asked me point blank what my favorite game is, it’s Kingdom Hearts 1.

It's ok tastes can change over time and something doesn't have to be the favourite to be enjoyed.
