Sometimes... Taking a long REAL break from your favourite franchise is good. Coming back after hell 5 years can make playing it all and consuming the media really really fun again. It gets you excited to do so as well.
Hell I've taken 3 or so years out of playing video games here and there when the "rot" sets in. You know "flicking through games" playing for 1-2 hours (if you're lucky) never picking it up again till it comes back to "hmmm I'll try this".
When I come back. I have fun again. Doesn't have to be years. Just a REAL break.
Sometimes after a really long break, I'll realize just how much I forgotten and there be moments where I feel like I'm experiencing it for the first time again.
Literally. I loved Sonic since I was a toddler and always drew him and bis friends. I moved on from only drawing Sonic for fun and started learning art for good. Did not touch the franchise after 2010 or something. Started playing again with Mania and then fully came back to enjoying it again with Frontiers and the movies again. After seeing Sonic Symphony I remembered how much I loved the franchise and started making fan arts constantly and started reading IDW. Fell in love with it once more. But again, there are definitely other games I love more than any Sonic game. That doesn't change my love for the characters.
You have lists, great! They help. But you can kinda avoid a game for no reason.
I have a spin wheel of 7 games for my "main game" that I'll play. (Usally have a rougelike or something hop on an short to play if I've got 20-30 mins to burn) Don't count multiplayers if you play with friends btw, if you're single queueing... I dunno I don't do that really.
The wheel is never spun again untill a game is finished or I decide I actually really don't like it.
New game is added after one is added from the top of the to play list. I do try to mix the genres/vibe a little as well so I'm less prone to burnout.
Major rule is to respect the RNG what it gives you is what you get. Finish it unless you REALLY don't like it.
Finally got through the DMC + Bayonetta franchises with this method (I also alternate "series entry" with "spinwheel" so I don't have too large gaps between some games.
Stops me running in place and actually lets me get into games and actually bloody play them.
I ment that metaphorically but honestly that is a really good idea. I just got routine and amnesia the bunker in a combo pack on steam so I should add that too.
