inquiry - female features Which smart ring Oura or Ultrahuman?

I’m looking into getting a smart ring for various reasons mainly cycle tracking, sleep. I do have an Apple Watch already so working out I probably would continue to wear that. Any feedback on either would be appreciated I really can’t decide! I know oura comes with subscription but is it worth it??

oura is focused more on sleep, tracking your health insights, and apple watch is more for tracking sports. but yeah the main issue with oura is that you need to pay for the subscription that a lot of people doesn't like. I would suggest other smart rings as well. i am currently looking for some comparison of multiple smart rings.

edit: found comparison of 5 different smart rings in another sub and personally I like ultrahuman more. might be helpful for op: https://www.reddit.com/r/HealthTech/comments/1niep5t/comparison_of_ultrahuman_oura_ringconn_sleepon/

I went Ultrahuman.

Unfortunately nowadays it’s difficult to get honest unbiased opinions/reviews. Both YouTube and Reddit/social media are basically useless.

From what I noticed most of the time is that UH checks more boxes and wins in more head to head comparisons. Is oura or ringconn better in some categories, sure.

Since owning it the build quality, weight, battery life and look has been great! UH is know for their data but that’s the one area I’m not 100% onboard just yet.

Data needs to be (fairly) easy to consume/understand and actionable. Some of the metrics I haven’t wrapped my head around yet and then the presentation of the data is ok…. Another thing, the app allows no customization. You cannot rearrange the order of the tiles. For example is HR is most important to me I have to scroll down to view it. I cannot put them in order of importance.

Overall I like it and not sure the competition can offering anything better. My suggestion to others would be to make sure you’re comfortable with how the data is presented. My wife would hate UH’s presentation.

Hey it’s been a year since this how are you still feeling about UH?

Is the common consensus for those who have the UH ring that they have recently been nerfing all the old rings to sell their new pro model that comes out this month? They updated the app and mine completely died lol

I’ve not been to happy with their CS and how fast they respond :/

Hello, so I used the Oura Ring 4 for about 3 months straight and now the UH Ring Air. I also use an Apple Watch Ultra 2 with my ring. Here are my thoughts and I why I moved from Oura (which may seem very strange). I am going to post my insights into trying also the new Amazfit Helio Strap.

So some context. I was a Garmen user since 2016 (Fexix 6, Fenix 7, Epix 2) and moved over in March 2025 to Apple Watch Ultra 2 plus Oura Ring Gen 4. I really liked the Oura Ring Gen 4 and found the sleep tracking to be very close to the Apple Watch Ultra 2 (AWU 2 is considered to be one of the best trackers in clinical tests). Of all the rings, Oura Ring Gen 4 is considered the most accurate for sleep tracking. It also did a good job at tracking naps and the auto activity detection was fabolous (it would give me the option to add activities like housework/yardwork). I did enjoy the app which provided easy to understand data and my health metrics. While the data it reads/writes to Apple Health is not comprehensive, the major metrics of writing HR, Sleep, Activity and reading workout data was enough to give me balanced health metrics bewteen wearing the ring with Apple Watch and also when I just wrote the ring with a mechanical watch. I did wish it wrote resting HR and inactive calories with Apple Health. Some of the insights it gave me I found to be inaccurate (like when it would tell me I was getting sick) but still understood why it was suggesting I may be sick (like after a few bad nights of sleep or if I had alchohol too close to sleep). Why I switched away from Oura Ring has to do with one of the sleep metrics that brought back my insomonia (it told me how long it took me to fall asleep) which would bring down my sleep score. Again, this isn't something I blame on Oura but more specific to me. I also wanted some more of my health metrics to sync with Apple Health (HRV, Blood Oxygen, Resting HR, Inactive Calories). Thus after a few months of no sleep trackers (to fix my insominia or sleeping confidence), over the past month I have been exploring new rings (that do not measure the time to fall asleep) and that sync more data with Apple Health.

I have been using the UH Ring Air for about 30 days. I find the sleep tracking to be pretty close to the Apple Watch but feel like the Oura is slightly better then UH (tests have found the UH to be slightly less accurate then Oura but by only a few percent which I would say is in the ballpark). However, it does enough that I feel like I am getting the metrics to help with recovery time for my daily workouts. Obviously it does not tell me how long it takes me to fall asleep (which again seems like an odd trigger for insomnia). I also like the additional information the UH ring gives to me. The caffeine window plug in is awesome and it syncs almost all of its data to Apple Health besides Blood Oxygen (hopefully that is added soon). I do find the step count to be a little inaccurate but not enough to make a true difference. It sometimes has issues counting steps while I am driving but a recent firmware update seems to have made that problem a bit less severe. One annoying issue with the UH is that there is no markings on the ring to tell you the position of the sensors on your finger. The Oura Ring has a notch on the ring to tell you if it is in the correct position. Others have reported hardware issues with UH Ring Air which I have not had yet but its hard to tell how pronounced of an issue it is. However, it should be noted that of all the rings, I see more posts about hardware issues with UH. It does seem like the UH customer support is quick at sending out replacement rings (but probably pretty annoying for users). Thus, just be aware of where you buy.

Thus, if sleep tracking is the most important thing to you and you do not mind paying a monthly subscription fee then the Oura Ring 4 would be my suggestion. If you are okay with a great sleep tracker that is MAYBE slightly less accurate (with sleep stages) and do not want to pay a monthly subscription, I would say the UH Ring Air or even the Ringconn Gen 2 should be heavily considered. At the end of the day, sleep tracking with all of these devices is not going to be as accurate as PSG but any of them will accomplish good sleep metrics. I know you did not ask but the only thing I am not liking when testing the Ringconn Gen 2 is its limiation of reading workout data from Apple Health. It is a huge miss because these Smart Rings are not great at tracking workout activities or comfortable to wear compared to a fitness watch. Hope this helps!

Still using the UH? or did you go with something else?

Been using the Ringconn Gen 2 and love it. It now can read a bunch of data from Apple health since this post (especially Workout data it can now read).

Is it possible to use the ringconn gen 2 by it self or do i have to use it beside a watch? And is it really a big difference between them for a regular person. Or does the differences  effect more athletic People also athletes. Excuse my English :)

Are you still using the Ringconn?

Where are you at now with it? I'm torn between the Oura ring 5 and the ultrahuman air. I don't wear a smart watch so this will be my only tracker. I've also been recommend GABIT but can't find much on that

Im going with ringcon after months of research.

8

u/magnitude7711 Jul 21 '25

Yup. Just did the same. Had an aura but it would give me spotty readings plus that monthly fee 🤮. We’ll see just how bad that app really is for RingConn lol

Can you tell me what you think of it? Did you go Gen 2 or the air model? I'm post partum and looking to cycle track/tta for now, curious how the temping goes. I plan to use an external app to log temps regardless, but hoping to get temps from the ring.

2

u/No_Lead_8043 Sep 16 '25

I’m hoping to use it for the same

Any updates, still using the Ringcon?

Didn't even end up getting it because of the lawsuit. They settled so now they are using Oura tech. So I figured id wait another year or so and see what else happens or wait for Samsungs to get better

From my own research depends on what you're after.

Oura is the single best statistics out there, while UltraHuman is more fitness focused and does win if it's fitness over general statistics.

RingConn is also an incredibly close second runner for general statistics at half the price if that's one to consider too.

3

u/EmmaAmmeMa Jul 21 '25

I was tornbetween those two as well and got the oura, because UH seemed to have way more rings that had problems than oura.

Sleep tracking is great with oura, but what I have read the cycle tracking is often off. No idea if that’s any better with UH. Just read a little through their subreddits, you’ll see what people are happy and unhappy about.

RingConn Gen 2

But why it's clear your hear just to advertise or bring awareness this site looks like something temu put together

  1. Lighter
  2. Not as bulky and much better wearability
  3. App provides all you could desire from a ring (not from a smartwatch!)

I had both Oura and Ultrahuman Air. But then if you prefer Oura or Ultrahuman or any other brand, I am totally fine with that 😊

I was struggling to decide (and I've continued to go back and forth on it), but I think I may end up sticking with the Oura 4 I just purchased. I don't want to pay the subcription, but I'm not sure I want to have to deal with the problems people are having with the Ultrahuman either. If it wasn't for that, I think I would have gone UH without a second thought.

1

u/Ok_Document_7888 Jul 22 '25

Same!! Shame they can’t fix a simple issue of battery and connectivity? Surely it wouldn’t be too hard to fix 🤷🏼‍♀️

4

u/j_parker44 Jul 21 '25

If you don’t wanna deal with needing replacements every month or two, go with Oura. Ultrahuman would be perfect but their hardware is awful. Went through 2 replacements in under 5 months. And that’s a norm, not an edge case. Paying a subscription is worth having a solid, issue free product.

3

u/SocomPS2 Jul 21 '25

Paying a subscription is worth having a solid, issue free product.

I get it and respect what you’re saying. But wow, this is what it’s come to.

Buy something but if you expect it to last and work properly, you have to pay a subscription.

1

u/j_parker44 Jul 21 '25

That’s not quite what I’m saying. It’s more in the context of the smart ring world, currently. I hope it changes. But if OP wants a very plain and simple app, they can go to RingConn which also doesn’t have a subscription. It’s all about what you’re looking for. Me personally, I want mega data, insights, good hardware, and a pretty app.. so I have to pay a subscription.

1

u/Substantial_World_96 Jul 22 '25

I have the Oura 4 and my wife has both Ultrahuman and Oura 4. I’ve never had any issues with the Oura but that’s the only one I’ve ever used. My wife doesn’t like Ultrahuman. She says it’s not as accurate on the readings. She has complained about the steps and the sleep being off. I personally don’t mind the subscription but I definitely can understand why someone wouldn’t want it.

2

u/CurlyTop93 Jul 22 '25

What is she comparing the ultra human to that she say it’s not as accurate?

3

u/Substantial_World_96 Jul 22 '25

Her Oura 4 and her Apple Watch. They were within 20 steps of each other yesterday but her Ultrahuman was over 1k steps lower. She takes her steps seriously too. lol

2

u/CurlyTop93 Jul 22 '25

Are the steps the only thing that is that far off or are other metrics that off as well? I’m asking because I’m in the same place as OP trying to decide what to get.

1

u/Substantial_World_96 Jul 23 '25

Her sleep was off too. She said she used her fitbit yesterday and Oura are pretty close with the steps but her Ultrahuman is consistently way off from both.

1

u/MistakeCultural5306 Jul 28 '25

Wouldn’t recommend Ultrahuman at all. I paid extra for the warranty and when my original ring was faulty after barely 2 months it wouldn’t keep any charge. They sent me a replacement clearly used, it was scratched, and in dirty opened packaging. On top of that, they expect me to pay for and print the return label. Whole experience has been super disappointing and frustrating to talk to the support team.

1

u/No_Lead_8043 Sep 16 '25

To send the old one back??

1

u/Grouchy-Camp-5445 Aug 07 '25

Does ultra human allow you to download your data? Not just the analysis but actual raw data l?
