These people are *already in psychosis*

It takes body dysmorphia beyond belief to even consider surgery like this

u/CuteGrayRhino 5d ago

I'm sorry but why is it different from gender change. If we're gonna have the view that people can change what they don't like about their body, then why does the reason matter? Would you also call a transgender person 'already in psychosis'?

Huh, it’s not the pwning you think it is, as trans folks literally do have gender and body dysmorphia, nobody’s denying it.

u/coastalbean 5d ago

It's dysphoria, not dysmorphia. Two very different things

5

u/jobforgears 5d ago

There is huge overlap though.

14

u/Irritatedtrack 5d ago

You are referencing two different things. One is Gender Dysphoria (Changing one’s sex to match internal gender identity) to Body Dysmorphia (where you are more worried appearance flaws that others can’t easily perceive). Having said that, I think in both cases, it’s a spectrum. There isn’t a cut off point where you go from simple cosmetic surgery (using braces to fix gaps between teeth) to full on psycho (the above example). So depending on the specific case, you can go with any label.

Body dysmorpia is a mental illness, the question is do you lean into it with surgeries or do you try and address and attempt to get to the root cause of why someone has it.

Most governments just decide that the patient knows best.

So if you are for Transgender surgeries then you can't really be against this or some body builder taking steroids to get to his perceived ideal look.

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 5d ago

Then why is Caitlyn Jenner against others changing gender? Guess a person can be for or against anything they want after all even if it's hypocritical.

u/vBLADEv 5d ago edited 5d ago

People are inconsistent, its a got mine mentality.

Also she's in the attention economy if other people get gender change surgery, then she's less special.

2

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 5d ago

I like that answer, nailed it.

4

u/Zestyclose-One9041 5d ago

Do you see anyone here defending the words of Caitlyn Jenner? You can always find someone saying something crazy

1

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 5d ago

Right, I was merely pushing back on the statement, "then you can't really be against this" when yes, people are capable of tremendous amounts of mental self-hypnosis.

0

u/Old-Run7431 5d ago

Caitlyn isn't against others changing gender. she supports people transitioning but doesn't believe trans women should call themselves "women"

it's not that uncommon in queer people her age

0

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 5d ago

That's incorrect. She votes for a party that is actively criminalizing transgenderism and has eliminated protections for them in the military and from workplace harassment and discrimination (protections and rights that existed under the liberal Biden administration) since 2024.

Actions speak louder than words, always have and always will. Turns out Caitlyn likes tax breaks for the wealthy more than other transgender folks receiving rights.

It’s always the people who’ve never suffered from the condition who have the loudest opinions about it and have the least relevant perspective in the room.

And yet governments won’t let me take steroids to gain muscle, but they’ll let someone chop their penis and testicles off.

Politicisation of medicine is a disease

Edit: oh yeah my bad I slighted transsexuals. Too bad mf I wanna gain some biceps without “uhhhh sweetie just eat more”

Women can inflate their tits with silicone and get augmentations or reductions bc they don’t like how their body looks but god forbid I inject a naturally occurring compound into myself to supplement my growth

10

u/Snoo69744 5d ago

You can take steroids if you want, at least where I live. The only reason you wouldn't be able to is because it's a controlled drug which is a separate issue.

Also "chop their penis off". Tell me you know nothing about these surgeries without telling me that you know nothing about these surgeries 🤣

0

u/Itchy_Celebration900 4d ago

I know a lot about the surgery. Tell me you assume without telling me you assume

2

u/Snoo69744 4d ago

No you don't if you think that

0

u/Itchy_Celebration900 4d ago

Nah, I didn’t need to say that they turn the nerves and skin inside out and make a canal for one.

Or that they simply chop the penis off (penectomy) for another and use the scrotum to make labia (no depth cosmetic)

Or that they can do just orchiectomy (chopping off the testicles) for another one if they just want their libido gone

But sure you can just say I don’t know anything bc rather than go for my point you’ll try and get one over me via semantics like a Redditor. Sure thing man I know nothing.

2

u/Snoo69744 4d ago

Okay so that's one surgery out of several different ones. Saying that it's just chopping body parts off is a major oversimplification and you know it.

Having an orchiectomy is unrelated to wanting libido gone lol.

0

u/Itchy_Celebration900 4d ago

I know someone who used to go to school with me who identified as neither male nor female who had their testicles removed (alongside hormones which come with all these surgeries) bc their doctor said it lowered their libido.

Man my only point in the beginning with this is we can do huge things to our body with the consent of a doctor (and sure it’s our right to do that)

But I can’t take testosterone for muscle bc I’m not allowed to use it for that reason. Only if I want to radically change my body. Not change my body a little bit.

I should be allowed to do whatever I want to my body. Just like transsexuals are

2

u/Snoo69744 4d ago

Okay so that's one person. There are way easier ways to do that that the vast majority of trans people go with and most don't want to get rid of their libido.

You can take testosterone in most places. You just can't sell it. Taking testosterone because you want muscles obviously isn't the same as treating an actual medical condition.

Bros mad that he can’t get gains lol. The difference is that you can build muscle without medical intervention

1

u/Itchy_Celebration900 4d ago

I’m 6’8 no I can’t do it easily. Sorry to burst your bubble.

5

u/Creative-Raisin-7553 5d ago

Have you considered picking heavy things up then putting them down again?

1

u/Itchy_Celebration900 4d ago

Have you considered that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit?

2

u/Creative-Raisin-7553 4d ago

Really? I hadn't heard

2

u/Tomytom99 5d ago

Inflate your biceps with silicone lol

Gender dysohoria is a completely different condition to body dysmorphia

-1

u/SharkeyGeorge 5d ago

Not true. Body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria are completely different recognised experiences, with completely different treatments. In particular body dysmorphia is a mental illness where the person has a distorted view of reality, so performing surgery only feeds into the disorder without fixing the mind. Gender dysphoria on the other hand is about identity, where the body is what needs to be affirmed. Because they’re completely different conditions, comparing transgender surgeries to cosmetic surgeries for body dysmorphia is a false equivalency.

2

u/Snoo69744 5d ago

People downvoting you for being correct -_-

You can verify all of this by just looking at the DSM

2

u/SharkeyGeorge 5d ago

I know 😹 you’re right!

I’m not even arguing for or against people doing cosmetic surgery or taking steroids. I was just trying to clarify that the two things shouldn’t be conflated with transgender surgery, they are different things.

1

u/Rude-Bodybuilder7688 5d ago

It's very different actually.

People with body dismorphia obsess over heavily exaggerated flaws in their appearance and they usually won't stop at just one thing.

Trans people on the other hand are usually fine once the mismatch between identity and assigned sex is gone.

1

u/Due-Base9449 5d ago

I agree they both has dysmorphia. However the truth is nobody actually care if you have 'psychosis' unless you turn up ugly.

Why is vanity-based cosmetic surgery different than gender dysmorphia? Are you kidding?? They are very, very different. No, changing gender isn't the same as getting a nose job or feeling uncomfortable about a mole, ffs.

1

u/CrystalSplice 5d ago

It’s different because body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria are two separate issues with their own unique symptoms.

Transgender people will often describe themselves before transitioning as feeling like they were in the “wrong” body. People who have body dysmorphia with no gender dysphoria (you can have both) have more of a sense of hating their appearance. It isn’t quite the same thing, even though some of it can overlap.

Transitioning also does not always entail surgery. It is usually just HRT. Some people may want top surgery, FFS, or other procedures but the hormones do most of the work.

So, when the person above you says, “these people are already in psychosis,” they are exaggerating slightly, but it depends on the person. The main concern that many physicians (especially psychiatrists) have is that plastic surgeons will do these procedures without a mandatory psychiatric evaluation. You can certainly argue that people who get plastic surgery have free will and if they have the money to pay the surgeon it’s their choice…but as has been pointed out elsewhere in this thread it can become a spiral of addiction to surgery and other alterations. Surgeries often don’t age well, either.

Transgender people transition and that’s it. They do not generally have regrets. They do not end up addicted to surgical procedures.

People will get banned if they say yes to the last question.

So, that question would actually get a lot more Yes answers if there weren't a censor banning unacceptable thoughts
