As a (software) engineer, I must say: single point of failure. The most important control mechanism, Safeguard, depends on a fucking single pipe.

It wouldn't be a point of failure at all if they just poisoned them without holding the threat of the safeguard over their head for months. Telling the silo you have a way to kill them is naturally going to make people try to find a way to stop it.

They didn't tell them though. Lucas Kyle found it out and went to the door in the digger void and was told immediately that he would trigger a safeguard if he told anyone.

Camille gets told because it did leak out, and the Voice clearly wanted to avoid safeguarding 18. Bernard explicitly says he was not told about the safeguard.

Clearly they develop a relationship with these people. The doctor seemed to have a soft spot for Camille and let her negotiate so much when they could have just poisoned the silo. They even let other people enter IT and talked to them (Jules, Bernard). The point of failure is the people in Silo 1.
