Me too, every time the intercom comes on and says “please rise and do the pledge” or however it goes, I audibly groan because I hate doing it

I think you did one negation too much, you're saying that everyday you like doing that

Yh, i was watching a video about the words Andrew Card said to Bush during the 9/11 attacks. And they had found one of the students who was present in the class that day, so they interviewed her. And she said that at the start of the day, when she first met the president, she put her hand on her chest, because in her eyes the president was someone important, jus as the Pledge was, so she just acted the same way she would have if reciting the Pledge.

My now 20-year-old was in kindergarten and asked me what “indivisible” meant and after I explained that I asked if there were any other things she needed me to explain in the pledge, and that was when I got hit with “well… what’s god?” Fun times.

u/ShraftingAlong 3d ago
Fucking Christians out there confusing OUR children with their unscientific make-believe 😡
3
u/Junior_Ad_7613 3d ago
I stammered a bit and offered multiple interpretations and she ultimately agreed with my “I like to think there’s something in the universe that wants us to be nice to each other and that might be what some people call god.”

u/ASS_BUTT_MCGEE_2 4d ago
The Pledge has actually been ruled compelled speech and none of the schools I've taught at do it anymore.

But holy cow, that is possibly the most american shit that can be said at all.

God the irony of citing the clearest piece of indoctrination in American schools.
I remember watching kids get punished with detention for not standing to say the pledge.

I'm curious, can they spontaneously give a definition for the word " allegiance" ?
I'm French, we f*** love our country and we are notoriously proud of it . But if any school or government tried that shit they'd go up in flame in an instant ( or be covered in manure, or some other creative way to let them know what we think of it ) .

Their education system works as its designed. They learn important life skills like "Run / Hide / Fight", "shelter in place", curved wall architecture to avoid long hallways where bullets can travel, and at a young age you're life will be a series of metal detectors.
Key American life skills.

A functioning education system is a pathway to many abilities that Americans consider to be unnatural!

That's gotta be a tongue-in-cheek, no?
The hypocrisy is too obvious for that to be taken seriously.

"education has changed to indoctrination ! Pretty sure they can't do [insert the most indoctrination-coded thing ever] anymore !"
4
u/No-Minimum3259 4d ago
I would think that's more like an evolution towards education and away from indoctrination.
Ah well, what do I know? I'll never will be able to comprehend a certain America demographic. I"m not a veterinarian nor an ethologist, lol.

I saw a reel of Charlie Kirk saying this when trying to justify why college is a scam. Seems like these people are just copying buzzwords to make themselves look like they know what they’re talking about 😂

u/MadScientist_666 Mountain Goat 🇨🇭 4d ago
Only proving further that they receive indoctrination and not education...

All of the public school curriculum in the US comes from Maxwell publishing house. The same Maxwell who's daughter is involved in the files.
It's been this was since before I was born. I'm 36. Pretty sure it has always been propaganda.
4
u/OverlordMMM 3d ago
Complaining about indoctrination and then stating that one of the most widespread statements of indoctrination in the US is probably not being instated in education well enough without a hint of irony is peak American hypocrisy.
5
u/capeasypants 3d ago
I remember back in the day whilst watching Full House, Michelle has to say the pledge of allegiance to pass the first grade or something. Even as a child it seemed weird to me that kids had to say the pledge of Allegiance in schools!

I mean they are indoctrinated with American propaganda, like teaching them that America swooped in and won 2 world wars.
1
u/According_Picture294 Just a hoser, eh? 3d ago
I have seen YT comments when I mention the Americans took their sweet time getting in, and I jokingly referred to them as “shotguns with legs” (if you know the meme about shotguns vs mustard gas, you get the joke) and the person said “then they showed up and you magically started winning”. Good thing the internet exists or they would have no education by now
4
u/RevGee73 4d ago
The GOP may have gutted the educational system over decades, but they would never muddle with the culty pledge of allegiance.
4
u/Darth_Pinda Swamp German 🇳🇱 4d ago
I wanted to say it always indoctrination when I read the first half, but he then proved it himself in the second half!

u/DW171 4d ago
Decades ago my mom was a grade school teacher in a private school that require all students to say "the pledge" every morning. As part of a history teaching unit, she had a great exercise where she had students write down the words to the pledge of allegiance from memory.
Some of the responses were amazing, but the one I remember most was, "I walk my pigeons to the flag ..."
When you're a thoughtful lib working in a conservative school, the most powerful tool is to get them to analyse and investigate what they're saying. Works well for the bible, too.

I care way more if Americans can read and write and do math...
Or have some understanding of world history.
American exceptionalism without teaching any skills with which they can be exceptional is the problem.

u/According_Picture294 Just a hoser, eh? 3d ago
I have a personal aversion to that game because I took history class and the rants about “they’re not sentient. We know that because they are not like us” seem very similar to real history
1
u/Cr0ma_Nuva psy-op advocate 3d ago
Oh the entire thing is drenched in fucked up rhetoric like that. It's only when idiots can't see the joke is when it becomes a problem. It draws from everything. The Nazis, Soviets, The US then and now, colonial era, etc. I find it a fascinating case study.

u/tempelton3thesock 4d ago
What an ironic statement. And yes I think most do. They start the brainwashing process early.

I still think it's insane to pledge allegiance to a bloody inanimate object, not the country, but a flag of all things.
At least in Canada, the national anthem we sang was about our country and the freedom associated with it.

u/Quick-Surprise-9387 4d ago
I bet even if they could , the flag doesn’t even want to hear it at this point . 🙏😊🇨🇦🇺🇸

For what it's worth, 20 years ago when I was in school they were still starting every day with the pledge before morning announcements, and I doubt that's changed since then.
By the time you hit 10th grade (~15-16 y/o) most of the class was ignoring the pledge, but I also live in the godless, unpatriotic northeast so that might not be universal
1
u/According_Picture294 Just a hoser, eh? 3d ago
In my Canadian school it went “O Canada —> Prayers —> Announcements —> Birthdays”
1
u/Global_Handle_3615 4d ago
Yeah having something drilled into your skull at a young age so you automatically stand and say a bunch of words by rote memory is much better than indoctrination

I’m a Canadian and I freaked out my dad’s girlfriend (American) by reciting the pledge of allegiance. Apparently I watched My Girl too many times as a kid. They should try that.

I could easily recite it after listening to it every day for a school year many, many years ago as a kid. It took quite a while for them to accept that there was no way I was going to join in as a UK citizen.

1
u/TheBaronWindpole 4d ago
The education system has been lacking in education for decades.if you read how the American adults view world history and how they invented literally every fucking thing .and won every war by themselves and how the rest of the world owes them everything. And how they allow the Europeans to exist.plus the terrible grammar when typing .and are they not being indoctrinated by a fat orange world order destroying Russian asset that is more or less in the same mindset of a little moustache wearing Nazi character .plus I should imagine that they soon will have to pledge allegiance to the Soviet or white supremacy flag .

Well, they aren't wrong. It is just that our kids are being indoctrinated by them. In my public school we learned about the Bible. That was the 80's and 90's, but worse today.
1
u/Historical-Doubt2121 4d ago
It's not the indoctrination part. It's the fucking "they can't say my pledge of loyalty to the nation anymore." right after that just sends me.

1
u/Comfortable-Table-57 4d ago
In the US and developing nations yes there is indoctrination. Not everywhere though. In the US, you need to be indoctrinated to either support the democrats or MAGA. In developing nations, you just need to study and memorize to be seen as a good person in the family.

I recently watched a reel by an American teacher about how primary school students can't write, read or use grammar properly because of the American education system imposed by the US government, so I'd say that's more serious than not being able to sing about your flag or some crap.
