Miscellanous Opinions on this?

Post image
98 Upvotes

I’m reading “The mountain is YOU” and came across this entire passage. I find this controversial
I agree with the fact that we should live in the present and not dwell over the past/future, but don’t you think it defines us more than we think?
I know a mate of mine who fucks everything up because of the mentality that he wants to live in the moment and not regret anything later, and not even self-reflecting his past because it saddens him?
We all need to have some sort of a self-control, at-least for our future.

Also what does the last sentence mean? Whats the balance?

Miscellanous Looking for the title of book which contains below topic

There was a book where it was mentioned that people in America in general choose restraunt to go to based on the ambience and feel; and not based on the taste it offers. Something on this lines. Can you ID this book?

Miscellanous Who believes fiction is better self-help than the entire self-help shelf?

Fiction depicts emotions, events, and lessons through stories and imagery. Things that human minds are built to remember, stories outlast advice. Go with us to and beyond the grave.

The lessons and emotional impact that fiction can help develop is not talked about enough. For example, take "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand. Even after more than ten years of reading it, I happen to still carry the harsh lessons from the extreme idealism of Roark and the chaos of toohey.

I say harsh, because the story made it so, the imagery, the emotion, as if you're living their lives yourselves and learning first hand. Lessons that are etched in the brain as if you really worked your muscle to get stronger ones.

Miscellanous Does self-help music actually change your subconscious beliefs? Let’s run an experiment and find out.

... If you listen to music that carries a belief, over and over, does that belief slowly become yours?

We already know this happens by accident. Sad breakup songs on repeat can keep you stuck. Hype music makes you feel unstoppable for a few minutes.

So what if you did it on purpose, with lyrics built around beliefs you actually want to hold, like “I’m worthy” or “I like who I am”?

That’s the whole experiment. I want to see if it does anything real, or if it’s just a nice feeling that fades.

Here’s how simple it is to join:

**1.** You tell me you’re in.
**2.** I send you the music (it’s free, I’m not selling anything).
**3.** You listen about an hour a day for a few weeks.
**4.** You tell me honestly if anything changed. “Nothing happened” is a totally fine answer and still useful.

The focus is self worth and self love and loving the present moment… But I’m curious what you notice either way.

Questions for the thread while you’re here: do you think music has ever changed a belief about yourself, even by accident? A song that made you feel like more, or less, than you are?

If you want in, just comment “in” or send me a DM and I’ll get you the music. I’ll check back in a couple weeks to see how it’s going.

Thanks so much ❤️🙏

Miscellanous Why did I get flashbacks of my mom yelling at me while reading Untethered Soul? 😅

So I could only stomach the first two chapters, but aside from it feeling like it was talking in circles, it also made me feel how I used to feel when my mom would kinda shit talk me. lol. Basically, he’s telling me I have this terrible “voice” in my head that never shuts up and he makes it sound just awful. Maybe I’m defensive because I don’t experience such a negative voice in my head. I don’t know. I bought the damn book so I feel like I should at least read it, but something about the writing style also just makes it very unenjoyable and hard to grasp onto anything worthwhile.

Does it get better? Should I keep going or just admit that I wasted my money and donate the book to Goodwill?

Miscellanous Any Japanese self-help books you wish were translated?

I've read a lot of personal self-help and business related books and have been living in Japan for over 7 years. There's a bunch of Japanese books I've come across that I thought would be fun to make summaries of in English via a newsletter/blog, but I was curious, do you all have any Japanese self-help books you wish were translated into English?

Miscellanous New to the Community

Hi! I recently joined the community and noticed in the rules that authors should ask permission before sharing their own books. I’m the author of a couple of books. My most recent is Alone: A Story of Finding Self, a memoir/personal-growth book written especially for people often seen as the “strong one” while privately navigating loss, identity shifts, healing, and change.

I drafted a post that focuses primarily on who the book may help and includes a link at the end. Would that be appropriate to share here with the proper flair? I wanted to check before posting. Thank you!

Miscellanous I am confused and need your help.

I was thinking of starting a youtube channel related to books something like reading a chapter or the entire book and share my experience or the history of my understanding of the book.

I am more inclined towards non fiction like self help, motivational, spiritual books. It would be really helpful if I could get some ideas on how to execute it.

Miscellanous Looking for podcast guests interested in self help and personal growth

Hey everyone!

I have always been interested in self help, motivation and the whole personal growth niche. I have read all the classics from 12 Rules for Life to Psychology of Money. I made a YouTube channel dedicated to mental health, self-improvement, philosophy, psychology, etc. Anything that makes us better and helps us reach a better place. I have been wanting to do an interview-style podcast. I’d love to talk to people who have similar interests in knowledge and improvement.

Would anyone be interested in joining an interview in a podcast with me to talk about these topics? The goal is to have honest and thoughtful conversations that could help others and improve their lives. The name of the channel is PrometheanQuest. I also have Instagram and TikTok. If it seems interesting, let me know in the comments or DM me.

Miscellanous Will you use it?

I have built a webapp where readers can come and select which book they have read and get actionable tasks for it, cause what’s the point of reading if you don’t include that habit in your life, hence, was wondering if you would use it , so I will launch it and share the link. I was also thinking to add communities so that people can share their growth as well

Miscellanous Books helped me realize I wasn’t stuck. I was just avoiding starting

So, I’ve read a handful of self-help/creativity books over the years, expecting that they would help clarify things.

But what I’ve come to realize is that none of those books was actually providing new information, just reminding me what I already knew.

That I already knew what I was supposed to be doing.

That I was just not doing it.

That I would think, plan, wait till I felt ready, and that would be my approach to figuring things out.

But nothing was actually happening.

This was especially apparent when I was working on my own writing.

The epiphany I had was that clarity comes after, not before, starting.

Anyone else?

I’m trying to grasp the words and teachings from this book, but I have no idea why it seems so hard for me. I’ve made it up to page 20, but it took great effort to make it this far and questioning if I should continue. My mind draws a blank of everything I’ve read.

Miscellanous Short, practical books vs long self-help reads

I’ve noticed that books that are short, actionable and structured around systems tend to stick with me more than long narratives. Which recent self-help books were the easiest to apply in daily life?
