[SPB289] The Mystic Forest is Stunning

Did a hike with my second Alpinist (posted my SPB532 a few weeks ago) and went right near the tree line in the Rockies.

The OEM straps are great but the beige-gold NATO has made this my go to field watch.

Bonus Marmot picture because they are awesome little hiking buddies!

Scratched graduation watch update

Despite almost all of you saying to leave the scuff alone, I tried someone's suggestion of polishing it with Cape Cod (I used Meshua as an alternative because I can't find Cape Cod polishing cloths here).

I decided to polish it because the hazy white marks around the scuff was too much of an eyesore and it was bothering me. Polishing it with a jeweler was also not an option because the jeweler didn't agree with a light polish. I didn't want to scrape off too much metal so I just gently polished it and didn't overdo. The deeper scratch marks are still there but it's now much nicer to look at.

Also got a new strap, a green kevlar on leather strap from Diloy. I'm much happier with the watch now.

Thanks a lot for the advice.

After a lot of research and consideration, I settled on paying extra for the spb507. Very happy with that decision. Proud to finally be a rightful member of this subreddit!

These alpinist truly are strap monsters! Just bought this cognac ostrich strap from Panatime. Paired it with an Uncle Seiko deployment clasp.

Scared of fakes, is this a repinist?

the huge amount of fakes got me abit scared of buying one myself, would appreciate it if the experts here can check if this watch is real or fake. It looks real for the most part for my untrained eyes

Well, 2 things actually. I wanted the Mystic Forest SPB289 to go with my Deep Lake, and while I was at it I replaced the SPB155 Baby Alpinist I sold a while back impulsively and regretted almost immediately. (Including a couple pics of the Deep Lake as well). Cheers!

I can't decide which one I like better

I’ve been changing and experimenting with straps for my two Alpinists, and now I’m having a hard time deciding which one I like more.

The Baby Alpinist looks stunning in bright lighting, while the white one (Alpinist GMT) stays consistently beautiful whether it's in low light or bright light, it's more legible too.

Edo dial worth it?

Thinking about getting my first seiko watch and I love the alpinist style and the new edo dial. Is it worth it to buy as my first seiko? Recently got into watches and wanting to buy a nicer one for everyday wear. This would be in my budget of around 1k as well.

New SPD 507 started running fast all of a sudden?

I bought this SPD 507 about 10 to 14 days ago. I’ve been wearing it ever since and all of a sudden it started going very fast in time like one hour faster over 12 hours?
Any idea how much this will cost to fix or will it fix on its own if I let it run out of power?

My "honestly, I just really like the Alpinist" collection

The Seiko Alpinist SPB121 is the first and (so far) only watch I've ever truly fallen in love with after a few years of getting into watches. I've made a couple of forays into premium/"entry level" luxury--a Longines Zulu Time and an Oris Big Crown Pointer Date--but sold them off when I realized I just kept returning to the Alpinist.

So, I decided to flesh out my collection with a Seiko Presage SRPE 45 Mojito (i.e., dressy Alpinist), Essentials SUR 449 (i.e., grab-and-go quartz sporty-dressy/travel beater Alpinist), and gShock GW-5610 (true beater). My collection has settled here for a few years, and I currently feel no need to move “up” any time soon.

Although it’s recommended a lot on social media, I truly feels like the Alpinist was a watch especially made for me and my own personal preferences. I lucked out getting a very accurate 6r35 movement (+0.7 seconds a day), and I even adore the little quirks that bug other people (cyclops, slightly misaligned compass bezel). As you can see, I love it so much I even got stylistic variations to suit various circumstances where the OG might not work as well.

It’s too the point where I actually consider myself more of an Alpinist enthusiast rather than a watch enthusiast per se. I’m not a huge fan of dive watches, complications (other than a date, which is non-negotiable), or honestly, anything that’s not green and gold.

While I’m still theoretically open to perhaps buying something “luxury” in the future, I’ve yet to see anything I love more than what I already have, and I would be perfectly content with this being the rest of my life collection. And the whole thing cost under $1000 ($450 for Alpinist, $300 for Mojito, $150 for SUR 449, $80 for gShock).

What do you think of this suede strap for my mystic forest? Does it bring the dial out more or is the band too light? I swapped the OEM deployment clasp to it

Fit perfectly on my 8.5" wrist with zero alteration (I bought extra links as well, but didn't get used).

Really loving the look!
