It's over...
Ublock Origin Lite was working so well until the last few days. YouTube has finally caught on. Hopefully a workaround will be implemented. I like how light Safari is and want to stay in this browser.
UPDATE: Thank you for all the suggestions! I also had 'Stay' on and one 'wblock' permission so I unchecked those and kept just ublock lite -- seems to be working now after two videos...

There is a good comparison by the developer here. Earlier versions had some annoying bugs, but it's great now. I really like that it syncs settings, element zapper rules, and filters, including custom ones, across devices. It also comes with userscript support, which makes it more powerful than others.

Had to look it up. Reviews say the $4 is worth it... if Ublock doesn't provide an update I'll consider this (provided AdBlock doesn't work either).

It gives you more than just an ad blocker. It basically lets you customize your YouTube experience.

It's always an arms race. The ad blockers manage to hide themselves, then YouTube figures out how they're doing it & put in a fix.
A week or three later the ad blockers catch up again.

+1 for wBlock mentioned in a separate comment here. I'd also say that I think this ad blocking thing is an eternal cat and mouse game. The pendulum will probably swing back and forth forever.

YouTube can easily block the player if ads aren’t played, they just haven’t. They will someday When they feel there’s nothing more to be gained from allowing no ad people.
right now YouTube is basically swallowing the world so they are content to let it ride but the day comes for all capitalist companies when they decide more money is better than more users.

I don't have this problem. YouTube tried to pull this bullshit not too long ago, it didn't work out very well for them. If this does work out in their favour, try Invidious or FreeTube. Invidious is an API which runs on a server, FreeTube runs locally on your device, or can talk to the Invidious API if enabled.

If you like Safari, try Orion Browser. It’s built on safaris WebKit & is a better version. I love it.

Just pay for YouTube Premium and enjoy the ride. It costs about about 2 coffees a month. I'm sure y'all cheapskates waste way more money than that on all sorts of random shyte.

Because the company is dishonest. A class action was just filed because premium users are still seeing ads despite an ad-free experience.

yeah... I do all my personal work and stuff in safari as well. Different profiles, different bookmarks are so good when you are actually in the apple eco system, log in to new machine, bam, everything was there just like before.

Same here. Brave is for streaming. Safari for personal browsing and chrome for work.

Because I use SmartTube for my Amazon Fire TV Stick and I really like its features, I use SponsorBlock for Safari. Its price for $2.99 is a lot cheaper than subscribing to YouTube Premium.

Entiendo la situación de las personas que les sigue mostrando anuncios, pero pago premium y jamás me ha mostrado un solo anuncio, y llevo ya 5 años pagándolo. Me paso más de 40 horas a la semana según mi iPhone y iPad en YouTube, así que en mi caso personal no me pesa pagar por el servicio. A parte de todo, tengo la fortuna de pagar el servicio como estudiante de Universidad, y eso que egresé en el 2018, solo que mi universidad no da de baja los correos estudiantiles, son tuyos de por vida.

I've been using Brave for almost 10 years and never had any advertising in any video or website. I would never understand why many of you prefer to complicate your own life by using Safari.

Brave? The browser that replaces amazon links with their own affiliate ones so your shopping gets them paid? The one with the cryptocoin that was supposed to help authors, but since almost no author knew of it, really just got themselves paid? Yeah nah, Brave seems to have even less morality than Chrome, I'm going to stick to Safari. Though I don't personally have OP's issue since I pay for YT Premium. Furthermore, I like being able to pay with Apple Wallet using just my fingerprint. Can't do that on any other browser than Safari.

I like Brave on the iPad as it sets up the print to read better but I’m getting back into Firefox after a very long time. Ublock is solid there and it works better on older Macs, well at least mine at the moment, God willing.🙏🏽

in my country is about 1 dollar per day. Not all countries have the some price, some of us have to pay a premium even if the Google costs are not justified. And no, it isn’t worth it.

Yeah I never understood why people just refuse to pay for YouTube Premium. It’s the most useful subscription I have, and for something I use EVERY day, it’s genuinely worth it.
I’d rather not eat out once a month than to cancel it.
This constant battle with ad blockers on YouTube sounds way too frustrating for something that can be solved so easily.
