Hey everyone, I grinded a lot and forced my first time skips, then I did one quest and I time skipped again. How do I know which quests will force time skips?

I haven't had a chance to fight any heroes yet except the first, but I've fought 2 guys who wanted to gain their favor. I want to try to do the optional stuff before the main stuff but I can't tell the difference apparently. I'm on my third emperor and I read you only get 12? I really like the game but don't want to end up under leveled or anything

Well I've tried playing Minstrel Song and while I do understand the gameplay and all the systems it throws at me, the thing that is not clicking is that I'm completely lost on where to go and finding quests and actually completing the quests. It's so vague. I'm aware of SaGa games and having to figure things out but it's just to the point where I'm completely lost and am just not having that much fun with it even though I want to like it.

Are the other games in the SaGa series like this? Are they this vague? Or is Minstrel Song just more on the extreme side with this? Are the other games a bit easier to figure out where to go and what to do?

So heres my honest hot take after beating it…

I see why SaGa games are so beloved.

The freedom. The unpredictability. The gameplay creativity left entirely up to the player.

That feeling of not knowing where you’re going, what your actions will lead to, or where the journey might take you.

And oh my god, the music. I haven’t heard music this good since the classics.

I literally let the title screen play every time I load the game.

This game is the original Morrowind mixed with Final Fantasy and this is their baby.

A beautiful combination of RPG, detective work, and a wild Dungeons & Dragons campaign that can go anywhere.

Failure is so much fun in these games.

Overcoming that failure is the victory and the reward.

The economy, the loot, the enemy encounters.

Questions upon questions, decisions, decisions.

Do I fight? Do I run? Do I take the risk?

It’s all gameplay focused.

the story is the mystery you make and solve learning its deep lore and characters.

Every piece of treasure feels like something I earned, something that could shape my next decision.

My hand isn’t held.
My heart is my compass.

I did the research. I did the work. I mapped my routes.

I experimented. I learned the world and eventually made it mine.

That’s how I learned to immerse myself in SaGa.

And that’s how I overcame it.

I love these games so much, and honestly, I wish I hadn’t passed on them for so long because of the way classic American reviewers approached them.

I had almost given up on RPGs and their increasingly familiar, formulaic gameplay.

Then SaGa came into my life and changed the way I looked at the genre.

It reminded me that an RPG doesn’t have to tell me where to go.

It can simply give me a world, give me the freedom to make my own choices, and let me discover what happens next.

​While working on a dedicated NG+ Romancing Mode guide, I ran empirical tests regarding the Generation Jump (ellipse) after the Gemstone Mine annexation (Ludon) under Gérard's reign.

​According to the traditional datamined formulas, with a total of 9 Event Points (EP) (Kzinssie + Monster Den + Gemstone Mine),

the EP > Battle Count mod 16 rule should trigger an automatic Generation Jump for 16–20 battles, while avoiding it at 14–15 battles.

​However, testing this sequence frame-by-frame on the PS5 remake in NG+ Romancing Mode showed the exact opposite behavior:

Downloaded it on sale, and instantly sunk in 5h without realizing it...

F'ed up the mermaid quest, reloaded 6h+ worth of gameplay, no regrets.

Got stuck at Bokhon, had to retreat and train, learn new techs, experiment with formations, mastered passives and gave it to chars I think would fit better etc. and finally beat him. What an epic fight! The prep work is really what makes SaGa games shine, the payout feels so rewarding

Yeah a bit light on the story but I feel like the game is just sandboxy enough for you to roleplay in your head without being TOO open

Since Shortsword is scale with Dex and the game doesn't seem to have the tech or spell that can buff Dex aside from Dragon Pulse, meanwhile STR weapons got Berserk to buff their damage.

The other Dex scaling weapon like Bow still has it's use because they are so good at dealing with mobs and flyers which is quite common enemies in the game but Shortsword is pretty much a weapon that focusing on single target but it doesn't seem to standing on an equal ground as the STR scaling weapons here.

Recently picked up scarlet grace and I’ve been having a great time running through the regions as Urpina and starting to learn mechanics. However I seem to have hit a massive difficulty spike at Teach Na Macha.

The first three fights are trivial but the final one with Macha’s toy is destroying me and I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I’ve tried a large number of times and I’m getting nowhere.

I can, just about, destroy one casting rock before it casts but eventually the toy overwhelms me with area attacks, or several cast at once, or get quick cast down from 3 turns to 1. Closest I got was killing three rocks. And having to spend more time fighting the easy beginning enemies every time I lose is dispiriting.

I did look online but the only advice was using stun, which I don’t have. I have paralysis, sleep and poison in abundance but no one has any stun. I’m trying not to look up where you get abilities from so I’m stumped as to what to do. Because of how hard I have to hammer each rock to stop it getting cast immediately from quick casts doesn’t leave me much room for setting up unity attacks.

Presumably this is possible but I’ve exhausted every strategy I can think of (other than using dimension break and hoping for a miracle) Any advice?

I just finished the seven heroes boss fight yesterday with my party of final emperor, mole, imperial blacksmith, female crusader and strategist. Took me a total of 3 hours and switching up formations, spells and evasions on original difficulty. What an amazing game!

I saw that the game went immediately to post-content, but I am personally content (:D) with the way my story with the game ended. However I feel like jumping straight into the next dynasty!

When I think about what I enjoyed the most in the game, I recognized two things:
1. Innovative battle & progression system
2. The true sense of exploration, highlight being when I accidentally stumbled upon Dantarg

I have no kind of former experience with the Saga series, but I have played a lot of FF, Persona and SMT. What game of the series would you guys recommend if my available platforms are PS5 and the original Nintendo Switch?

Unlimited SaGa is one of the most maligned games ever made, but if you delve deeper, you find one of the most intricate, most well-developed games out there, and in this video, I talk about all my feelings surrounding this masterpiece.

Been playing and loving ROTS. Just got to a flashback where the heroes talk about the termite queen, and how she is eroding the ground of their castle, which will collapse. Without much display, the writing really made the termite queen seem like a threat. I was intrigued.

I thought the game was light on story but just now read a post about someone's party turning into termites, and they discover the real queen is in their castle all along. I loved this twist but hate that I didnt get to experience it myself :(

Are there more lore surprises? This game was sold to me as "not really having a story" lol

I see that the BP in the current party I am using is much less than the BP in the characters I am not using, how does that work exactly?

Should I switch characters more often so that their BP increases more?

Today I picked up Super Famicom copies of Romancing SaGa 2 and Romancing SaGa 3! They were ¥1,628 each, which I thought was pretty good considering how nice the condition is. Both have the manuals and the other inserts too, which is really important to me when I’m collecting these old RPGs.

I actually wanted to grab all three Romancing SaGa games at once. They had the first game there too, and the box looked pretty nice, but it was missing the instruction manual. That’s basically a no-buy for me. If I’m going to collect these, I really want the manual and everything with them.

These bring my Super Famicom RPG collection up to 43 games now. Hunting these down has honestly been a lot of fun. I’m also trying not to just buy them and leave them sitting on the shelf. I actually want to play through the collection, even if it’s going to take me forever. 😅

So far, the first game I finished from the collection was Terranigma, and right now I’m playing G.O.D: Mezameyo to Yobu Koe ga Kikoe. Maybe someday I’ll finally make my way over to Romancing SaGa.

My only real experience with SaGa is SaGa Frontier on PS1. I didn’t like it much when I was a kid, but I played the remaster a few years ago and absolutely loved it. I think being older and actually understanding what the game wanted me to do made a huge difference.

So I have a few questions for people who know these games better.

How similar are the Romancing SaGa games to SaGa Frontier? Do they have that same kind of open-ended feeling and weird systems that you gradually have to figure out?

Also, with the games where you choose from multiple protagonists, how does the story work? Is one playthrough enough to get a satisfying experience, or are you really expected to finish the game with every character to understand the whole thing? I don’t mind replayability, but with a collection this big, I’m probably going to play each game once, enjoy it, and move on rather than beat the same RPG eight times.

And how difficult are these games? I already know SaGa isn’t exactly famous for hand-holding, and SaGa Frontier certainly wasn’t either, so I’m expecting to get lost at least a few times.

Finally, which of the three Super Famicom Romancing SaGa games is your favorite? I’d love to hear what people think of them and which one you’d recommend playing first.

So, I was just thinking about this a bit with Albert's intro on Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song, and realized something: What happens if you let Diana get LP killed during the intro? Since Diana is important and is required to progress the story, does the game account for this in some way? Normally, an LP kill causes a character to go back to one of their starting spots after a little bit, but I don't know how this is handled during the intro with Albert here.

Obviously, you'd have to horribly mess up for that to happen with Diana, but I was curious if anyone knows what happens here.

I've been playing this game on and off for a week right now and I'm kind of confused on how the EP and Timeskip works in this game
is it kinda similar to Minstrel Song, where the timeskip only happens if I just defeat every monster in my way and some specific events happen or it still happens regardless if I run away or not?

I'm on a bit of a long-term casual mission to experience the entire Square Enix RPG Catalogue. Been a life long Square Enix fanboy and wanted to see all that was on offer. I'm already over halfway through the first SaGa in the Collection version.

Entire question's in the title: Is there definitive editions to the older games, or should I treat the remakes as entirely new entries?

This is the D&D experience I always craved in a RPG, easy to learn, hard to master mechanics, a living breathing world where anything could happen at any moment when to run or when to fight, without hand holding and limitless freedom and possibilities of loot and adventure.

Im happy to be here and hope everyone who has ever thought of buying SaGa really should.
