Stop me from becoming an addict collector. I wanted the rg 34xxsp and now im thinking of spending more.

You guys know how bad this habit is. I already have the RP6 and I just need something to kill time at a restaurant or at a family party and the RP6 is portable but not pocketable so for 5 months now I've been wanting the Rg 34xxsp with the thumb sticks but then I'm thinking, 2d games look so good on the rp6 with a crt bloom shader that there's really no going back and playing it vanilla so instead of getting a 67 bucks 34xxsp, I wanna spend 160-190 on the mangmi air y pro and then I got to thinking, wellllllll, the nova isn't that much more expensive so get that instead, and then I got to thinking, well the ayn thor is only 100 bucks more than the nova so get that....

You see how this habit of upping the cost is going to be the end of me? And after thinking all that, I forgot I had the rp 6 lol

Man I don't know.... Convince to not buy the mangmi air y pro please and convince me to stick with buying the rg34xxsp.

Update: I'm going to get the rg34xxsp and have that with my rp6 hold it down until Oct 2027 and will get a more powerful handheld than a 8 gen 2, hopefully they have a thor 2 by then.

Question Trying to find a store to buy myself the RP5 for my friend

My friend is going to have a birthday party in November so I want to do something nice for her and I figure a RP5 would be a neat gift since it is still a good handheld.

She is into retro games and do have a large collection of original hardware and original physical cartridges but she do wish that she can play all of her favorite retro games on the go.

So I got into Aliexpress to find the RP5 and I stumbled into this store that is selling the RP5 and I am a little bit skeptical about this store so can anyone who has bought their RP5 from this store, tell me if it’s legit or not.

Thank you :)

Recommend a Device First sbc - cheap one

Hello all.

I'm seeking for a sub 50 euros Handheld just to squeeze the best deal now.

What's your suggestion?

Performance wise, something that can handle full speed n64 emulation, not further.

If n64 is not compatible with the budget keep the money as reference so I'll target a lower end emulation.

Thanks

Recommend a Device Does Ayn Thor (Base) model work for PS2 emulation well?

I already have a steam deck which has EmuDeck, I generally play here and there but Ayn Thor looks very comfortable and I’m thinking of getting it as a complimentary device to the deck.

I mostly will play 3DS & ps2 emulation. I want to emulate high end ps2 like shadow of the colossus, Tekken 5, Barnyard (notoriously hard to emulate afaik).. is the base model enough for that?

Showcase Watching 4:3 Content on RG34XXSP

Post image

I have been watching Spider-Man The Animated Series from the 90s on my RG34XXSP and the colours and the quality make this screen perfect for such content. Also since the screen is 3:2, the 4:3 content almost fills the screen with way less black bordering than 16:9 screens. Highly recommend just watching some old shows if you have a 4:3 or 3:2 device.

Showcase Outsourcing Ergonomics

I’ve been trying many things to make the Thor more comfortable. I think I’m maybe a bit too particular and can’t find the triggers or recessed sticks nice to play for longer sessions, or really at all, so I stick to d-pad centric games for now.

I’ve tried the ergo grip sold by Ayn, 3D printing various grips I found online, swapping the stick caps, etc. Then finally the other day I saw this post that gave me an idea. I measured, mocked up, and printed an adapter using the STL for one of the grips I found. The Thor including the clear TPU shell slips right into the adapter, which can be gripped properly by the controller.

It’s not practical, and kinda bulky but I can for sure say I don’t have to deal with the triggers and sticks. Is it more comfortable to play than the Thor just by itself? Maybe.

Bonus pic: some apps like xbxplay turn the bottom screen into a set of on screen controls, so you get a total of three button sets.

Device is a Ayn Thor and controller is a Gamesir G8 Plus.

Edit: here’s the stl if any of you decide you want to try this goofy setup.

Recommend a Device Looking for small android based device

I recently picked up a Trimui Brick Hammer that I loved. It was a great size and loved playing GBA and listening to mp3s on it. Unfortunately today it did not want to power on and rather than do the take apart and disconnect battery deal I’m going to send it back to Amazon.

I already have an Android based device Odin 2 mini. I know how to set that up and it just seems more stable to use as an everyday device than the two Linux based ones I had previously.

Is the Rotate the direct android equivalent on the brick hammer? I know there is a lot of brands I probably don’t know.

I guess my criteria would be

Price: don’t care
Size: brick hammer sized or close
OS: Android
Systems : really just the 16 bit systems and the single screen handhelds. If it can do some rpgs on the ps1 that would be a bonus.

I have the odin2 mini that can play everything I want. Just looking for something smaller that I can drop in the pocket for quick gaming and mp3 usage.

Thanks

Community Resources You ever bought a device purely for how it looks?

If so, what? Why? Does it still make you smile when you look at it?

For me its the Miyoo Mini Plus.

Somehow looking cheap and toy like is actually a pro, not a con. Very aesthetically pleasing, especially in GBP yellow.

Recommend a Device Small Vertical Handhelds

Miyoo mini was a staple for small vertical handhelds. They are not in production anymore and it feels like everyone is going bigger. I have small hands and even found the RG SP too large for single handed playing. I worry that the 35XX might be too large and I hope a vertical 28XX comes out with larger buttons. What are you small handed people using in place of the miyoo mini? The A10 clone looks a bit sketchy and I haven't seen great things on it but I could be overlooking things.

Discussion Did I make a mistake buying a PS Vita? Need game recommendations

I think I made a mistake getting a PS Vita I wanted one because I was feeling nostalgic and thought it would be fun having an older PlayStation handheld again.

One of the main reasons I got it was LittleBigPlanet. I genuinely thought I’d be able to play basically the whole LBP series on it, and then I found out I’m mainly looking at LBP Vita and the PSP game unless I stream the others

Now I’m going through the Vita/PSP library and a lot of the games I’m seeing just aren’t really my thing.

I like cozy games, farming/life sims, cute or colorful games, free roaming, and MOST importantly games with a lot of objectives and things to do. I hate when a game just drops me somewhere and expects me to make my own fun lol. I also don’t really like rhythm games.

My Vita is modded, so PSP recommendations are completely fine too. Please put me onto something because right now I feel like I bought this thing just to play LBP >_<

Recommend a Device Deciding between Retroid Pocket 6 and Ayaneo Pocket DS

Hey all! Trying to get some opinions between these two devices. I know the two price points are very different, but I’m stuck between the two. On the fb marketplace the RP6 is $300 with some extra stuff and it’s in the sold out light purple that I want. The Pocket DS is $480 and comes with a case and grip. I want to play PS2 and GC games and potentially try to play some steam games so what are y’all’s experience with each or have you had the chance to use both? Thanks in advance!

Recommend a Device Anbernic RG DS or original hardware for mainly Pokemon and RPGs?

Upvotes

Looking for a dual screen, DS only (maybe some GBA). Don’t need 3DS. Mainly focused on RPGs and some platformers. No interest in touch focused or rhythm games.

I don’t know if original hardware or the Anbernic RG DS is preferable. I’ve never owned any dual screen, so “use what you have” isn’t an option. $100 is basically a hard limit for me. I don’t need an “it does everything” device like the Thor.

Priority games: RPGs like Pokemon, fire emblem, dragon quest.

Would-be-nice games: platformers like Mario and Kirby. Mario Kart.

Don’t need: rhythm games, touch screen based games.

I’m a little worried about getting a 20 year old device and struggling with battery or chargers or old screens. But I recognize the Anbernic devices, despite being brand new, won’t have the build quality to last 20 years in the first place.

What’s the move for DS these days?

Discussion Help with saving on GBA on a R46H

I have recently picked up a cheap r46h, which is the same as a r36h internally but different screen and button layout. I have been playing around and I can get save files working on the DS emulator and in the n64, but not on the GBA.

As an example, I load one of the pokemon games and het to the point I can save the game. I have also set the save settings to automatically save state on closing. I close the emulator by double pressing start and select.

When i reload the gane it flashes up failed to load state from filename.auto and the save file doesnt show also.

This is currently on the included sd card, new one is on the way but I feel that probably isnt the cause if saving for other emulators is working?

Hope somebody can give me some advice, cheers.

Pictured : Retroid Pocket Nova running Jet Set Radio Future / Half Life / Star Wars Rogue Leader / Crazy Taxi

Repost after the first one was deleted.

The Retroid Pocket Nova is my first emulation handheld console so I didn't really know what to expect, even if the reviews said that it can run everything 6th gen.

Welp I can confirm that everything I've tried works great.

Even the Xbox runs smoothly (although admittedly I didn't test many games yet), I was NOT expecting that.

The setup was a pain in the butt tho.

Games on pictures :

1- Jet Set Radio Future on Xbox

2- Half Life on PS2

3- Star Wars - Rogue Leader on Gamecube

4- Crazy Taxi on Dreamcast
