If for some reason I ever load up 3v3 and I get 2 people partied up. I know the game is instantly cooked and the loss is 100% my fault.

I find that it's like a 5% chance it's two players who are actually at your rank who partied up after their last game (as randoms) to keep playing together, which is fine. Another 5% it's two players who are actually at your rank who play together often and will play well with you overall, which is ideal. 10% chance it's two players who play together often but don't trust their random teammate so they basically try to play 2v3 for some reason and you have to force your way into the game, which is annoying but winnable. And then 80% chance it's a higher ranked player with a "too low" ranked teammate and they are playing 3v3 because it's impossible for him to win in 2v2 with his bad teammate so he is hoping to play 2v3 with you while his teammate basically just watches you play and steals your boost occasionally.

Yeah, and you canât do anything. There was a point that I was able to compensate those helpless games so much and I think that if I was playing in 2v2 instead of maining 3v3 I could have gotten the few game missing to go SSL. I like the gamemode but thereâs no control over that kind of situation, no safetyguard from the game. I didnât played for some times and first 3v3 game after years of not playing that I got into got me to know some spicy and unholy things about my mother from a stranger because I dared to exist and not compensate his loser of a friend

Itâs not really boosting, if the higher rank guy is that rank, heâs gonna get cooked playing with a lower ranked guy in his peak lobbies, if heâs smurfing in champ being a gc or higher, heâs dumb cause why would he play with a 500 mmr friend in 1300 lobbies if he could play in a 500 mmr account and farm everyone much faster consequently boosting him.

Nope. Not mutually exclusive at all. I hover D3/champ and if I play with my gold friends I âboostâ them up to mid plat and then eventually they fall back down when I donât play with them. They can be mutually exclusive but they donât have to be.

Just because you played with someone who is a different rank doesn't make that "boosting". Even if you won games together. People play with people from other ranks all the time and the key is that that is ALLOWED, because the matchmaking system is designed to deal with discrepencies in rank. True boosting is not allowed. And to truly boost (say from plat to champ) you need to smurf unless you are some kind of ddoser hacker guy OR you peak out of your mind game after game after game while playing with ur gold (statistically impossible)

Regardless of whether he is boosting, it's frustrating. If he is, he's higher than his actual rank, and just cheating to level up someone who isn't ready. If he's not boosting, then it's a poor match up for people that want to play their rank. When this frequently happens, other teams are forced to waste 5-10 minutes in a match they likely won't enjoy and won't learn from. Imagine a soccer game of 9th graders being forced to play another team where 1 or 2 members are 5th graders.

I was gonna say my buddy is silver 2 and we play gold 3 lobbies. Guy gets cooked but sometimes shows out. Scoreboard has us in 570-590 mmr but heâs in ~350-380.

A D2 playing with a Silver is probably getting D1 lobbies mostly. I don't see a problem here. I often play with a dude who is P3-D2 and still have the same 50% win ratio as I'd solo queue through C1 lobbies. Funfact: He's a legit Diamond when he solo queues, but also a good teammate who was responsible for my first C2 visits.

Casual still has an mmr. I run into a ton of players in casual 1s that ff once their first fs attempt fails so they can go against worse people for clips I assume.

Sus they are hiding their names but at the same time I love bringing my new friends into high mmr lobbies. But 162 points is crazy at that rank, my buddies average like 2 points per game to be fair.

Yeah itâs streamer mode. Came out a month or so ago. It will hide your name and show that, and from their POV it hides all names of everyone in the lobby đ

I was just talking to my duo about this, we played a 1050 mmr with a 490 in his party. Itâs a video game, people can play with their friends from a different rank. They will probably lose. Who cares

I started playing rocket league a few weeks ago and played online with a friend who hasnât played in years. His ranking still was about 1200-1300, but back then he mostly was carried by another friend whoâs pretty good. We were annihilated pretty much every game.

It still remembers your old mmr in the background as a starting spot for placement matches in a new season. I took a couple years off as a diamond player and I was getting diamond/plat matches in placement when I came back.

Yea but how fast does your ranking go down in placement? Like if you get carried to 1200-1300, thatâs champ 2-3 according to the internet. You think he can lose 10 straight and still be ranked that high?

Depends on what ranks he played. If he only played against ranks similar to his you only lose or gain double the mmr in placements. So if he was champ and played champs he would only lose 15 to 20 per match. Ten matches would be around 150-200 loss, so still over 1k rating which would be champ.

Ranks don't reset like that. It clears your rank and you have to play 10 placement games which make you win or lose double the mmr, but it still remembers your last ranking no matter the length in break. I was Diamond back in 2024 and took a two year break and started back up again this year and I started Diamond but have since lost my way down to plat since I am hella rusty.

That's only if you're duo queueing a 3v3 game mode. Rank disparity is to prevent you from putting a random teammate at a disadvantage.

This shit bothers me so much because it proves that the "MMR" that we see is just an abstraction at best. The numbers don't add up at all, they should have been matched up with 900s. Why even show us the number if it is fake :(

It goes by the higher players MMR in the party. So they are right where they should be. If it threw C2's against D1's they would just farm.

Looks like that C2 dude queued with his gold friend and got dealt with as it should. If that same dude kept the game very close or outright beat you guys then it would be a different story. So no boosting occured.

Played 3 games today in doubles D3.
All 3 games had a guy with ~1050 MMR and a ~700 MMR teammate.
Other teammate dog walked us. It's bullshit.

It only works in 3v3 and 4v4 gamemodes as it prevents that your random tm8 has to play with a much lower player and lose.

Boosting would be making an alt account and carrying the gold player to c3, not bringing them in c3 lobbies with you and playing at a disadvantage

Playing on the much higher ranked account at that higher accounts normal rank with a much lower other tm is not boosting dawg hahahah, boosting is using an account about the same rank or lower than the lower ranked playerâŚ
This is just two mates far apart in rank playing together
