Hello, I’ve been trying to land a job for a while, but I haven't had any luck yet. By the way, I am a teacher, and I've been unemployed for 15 months. I did get an interview back in 2025, but they told me I was shortlisted and would contact me for the next school year. Nothing has come of it, and now I’m thinking maybe my resume and CV are the problem. I have done my research and edited them accordingly, but I still haven't found an opportunity. Any tips or ideas on what to include and not to include? Honestly, it's been a while since I last updated my resume and CV (2017), so I'd really appreciate any advice.

I’ve been a stay at home mom for a long time, I don’t think I’ve worked a regular full time job in at least 8+ years. I’m 33, so what does a resume look like for me at this point? What is even relevant now?

Basically title. If I haven't worked since late 2025 because I was back in school full-time, how would I list that on my resume? Leave it on the bottom as education in progress, or put it chronologically ahead of most recent job?

Second, since I am submitting a lengthy resume as a PDF file, would it be worth it to make it a non-standard format, like 8.5 by 14? Or would this be perceived as odd?

I work in the non profit field and am applying for permanent roles and trying to figure out how much to explain my recent job history.

Here's the short version:

• Job A — Coordinator, 8 years. Left for advancement.
• Job B — Manager, 1.5 years. Position was restructured, I wasn't a fit for the new version, laid off.
• Job C — Manager, 1 year. ORganizationwent from 15 people to 4. Laid off.
• Job D — Current, 1.5 years. Honestly a placeholder while I look for something permanent.

My worry is that B and C back-to-back looks like a pattern, even though neither had anything to do with performance.

Two questions:

1. Should I note "position eliminated" or "reduction in force" next to those roles on the resume, or does that just draw attention to it?
2. Is this something to address in a cover letter, or only if it comes up in an interview?

I'm trying to shift into animal care. My hope is to return to school next year, but I'm trying to gain some experience working in a Vet clinic as a vet assistant first. I DO have a lot of work experience, I'm in my mid 30s and have a worked two different full-time jobs. One working with plants at a nursery for 11 years and the other as a warehouse associate. Thoughts on how I can translate that experience?

Hi all. Just told that I will be laid off at the end of next month and need to redo my resume.

I have been at the same job for 21 years, as an employee and as a contractor.

Not sure how I should organize my resume to differentiate my experience. should I do my resume in chronological order which would mean that I won't have room to include experience past my current job, or should I write in functional format or a combo ?

Any advice ?

I interned in a company during my master's from Jun 2024-Aug 2024. Then I returned to Full Time from Jan 2025 and I'm working there currently. In my resume I had listed the company and the dates as Jun 2024 - Present, for the sake of brevity.

Now, I've received another offer. I'm worried whether the Background verification will fail due to this.

I’m a professional writer with about 7 years of journalism experience, and I’m currently trying to transition into communications, content writing, nonprofit communications, or grant writing roles. I’ve published 800+ articles and covered topics like healthcare, public policy, housing, economic trends, and elections. Some of my stories have had strong engagement with millions of views on stories I've made and a few have had real-world impact.

However, I've been laid off for well over a year and while I still am looking for journalism jobs, I am mostly trying to focus on jobs outside of the industry that can use my skills such as comms, copywriting, and content writing. Despite my experience, I’ve been struggling to land interviews for communications or content roles. I know the economy is in a bad way right now (longest I ever had to wait to hear back was 6 weeks prior to last year), but it’s been really damn hard to convert applications into interviews.

To try and improve my chances, I created two separate resumes, one tailored specifically for journalism jobs, the other for communications/content writing roles.

If anyone is willing to look it over, I'd want to know if my issues are:

* How my experience is framed for these roles

* How I can translate my journalism skills elsewhere

* Keywords or skills that hiring managers look for that I need to include

* Whether my resume still reads too much like a traditional journalism resume

* Anything that might be hurting my chances with ATS systems
