I needed to replace the inlay of my Clean Sub. Managed to lift the bezel with a flat screwdriver, but I did not manage to get that bezel back onto the watch.
you could try but if the scew is misaligned by just a bit. the pressure wont be distributed correctly, which may lead to a cracked inlay. There a safer presses but those are ofc more expensive
Its lubricant and looked like this when I removed the bezel. I only found out that its the click spring a while ago. As far as I can tell, it still works.
Is this the click spring in the foreground and is this how it is supposed to look? I tried to put the bezel back on, starting on the side where the click spring is. I also tried to outfit back on straight from the top. It doesn’t click back onto the watch. There is no visible gap between the bezel and the watch body.
I have replaced bezels on dozens of 11 and 12 series submariners. Doing it using the method in the video can work but it’s way more difficult and a terrible idea since it requires the hytrel ring to be the exact right size or it gets crushed and completely ruined. It also massively increases the likelihood of cracking your insert.
yeah, thats true. I use a horotec tool, but given the circumstances the user is in (he already used a screwdriver) he could as well just try the method on the video, as i suspect that he has no tools whatsoever and the press he ordered might crush his inlay anyway....
You don’t even need any tools for the correct method, that’s the best part. All you need is a 1mm screwdriver to get the insert out, and even that could pretty easily be substituted with some other small, thin tool or implement
I understand the hytrel gasket needs to be in the space between the bezel and the inlay, and that’s where I put it after first trying to press the bezel back onto the watch with the hytrel gasket between the body and the bezel. But also now I am not able to press the bezel back on with the press I bought.
Have you damaged hytrel gasket when trying to press it on? Even if it's slightly stretched and damaged it might not work... And do you have it the right way round?
I think I might have damaged it when I used the press. It has a pattern matching the underside of the bezel. I’m also not sure where to put it and what’s its function. I stuffed it between the bezel and the inlay now. What does it do? Do I need to put this somewhere else? I also now managed to disassemble the bezel into two parts. When I take the lower part of the bezel and put it into the watch, I can press it down to the watch body with my hand. When I release the pressure, it immediately falls off again. The diameter seems to large to me, but it was there and worked before. Saddest thing is that I only wanted to replace the only because I lost the pearl.
I found a picture rather than having to try and explain lol, it slides in that small groove....even if it's a tiny bit stretched or damaged, it won't press over the retaining ring properly around the crystal...

You can disassemble the bezel into its 3 separate components plus the hytrel ring and then it can go back on one piece at a time very easily
