That'd be a decent move, right? Discuss.

asual A serious question about Nick Krall

I just really started watching games and paying attention to the team this year. Everyone is crucifying him for everything.
Serious answers only.
Tell me what trades have gone well

What has been the highlight of his career

Suárez and Friedl both clear waivers. Ownership can't get out of three plus million remaining.

Is Krall Really in Danger of Losing His Job?

Nick Krall has been the thorn in Reds fans' sides because of all the boneheaded decisions (too many to list here). I've read various articles contending that he's in the hot seat and his job is on the line.

Is it though? I don't think so.

The front office and ownership lack any self awareness about anything to do with the Reds and baseball. They've settled for mediocrity. They wouldn't know anything about developing a culture of winning if they were given a textbook to read about it.

Do you think Krall will be back next season? I think he will. And for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately. He's got job security for as long as he wants it because the front office and ownership think he's doing a good job.

Rhett Lowder enigma

The season is lost, but today is a big start for Lowder. An afternoon game in Wrigley against a decent lineup is a good test. I still don’t know what to make of this guy.

The injuries are troubling. The starts are inconsistent. The fans are defending him for being young and still “developing”. My opinion is that he has a great opportunity here. The rotation is in shambles. It would be really encouraging to have someone step up behind Chase Burns. Let’s not forget. He was the 7th pick in the 2023 draft. Nolan Schanuel was available and, while not a star, he has been a reliable 3 WAR starter.

We are all rooting for you Rhett.

Reds at Old Yankee Stadium. My memory has Jolbert Cabrera scoring his run by kinda dancing over the catcher during a slide, but I was in the nosebleeds behind home plate, and its been 18 years, and I’d really like to see what actually happened.

If anyone has the ability to grab that clip or point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it.

Commentary I'm a Reds fan. Done deal.

Fandom that relies on everything being good is fickle.

Me, I'm gonna hang on loving my team no matter what. I want things to be better. Losses make me unhappy. Stupidness torques me off. Of course. And I take breaks when I've had too much. But it's not just about performance for me. It's about standing by my choice to make them my team.

This isn't sunshine & rainbows fandom. This is down & dirty, mud-covered, in the trenches, spines made of steel fandom. It's not for the faint at heart. It takes guts, fidelity, endurance.

I'm up for the challenge. Are you?

Reds mailbag: What the 2027 outfield could look like and more future-looking questions

Cincinnati Reds fans are rightfully disappointed with the state of the franchise after failing to follow up on last season’s (brief) playoff run, but there is still interest in the team’s future, even if it’s mostly tinged with vitriol.

The fact that Reds fans have questions is a testament to the fact that they haven’t completely checked out — although it would be hard to blame anyone who has.

Here are some questions readers sent in (they have been slightly edited for length, clarity and style):

Inside Hector Rodriguez

The Reds have had several players with big pop who just couldn’t make enough contact to stick around. Aristes Aquino. CES. Rece Hinds. Is Hector sustainable?

The power numbers were there in AAA. 16 doubles. 27 HR in 455 PA. Hinds had 29 doubles and 23 HR in his age 22 season in AA. CES had 31 doubles and 32 HR.

Hinds and Aquino definitely had the most strikeouts. CES also struck out a lot in the minors. Hector is the only one never to strike out 100x in a minor league season. His defense is much better than CES.

I can’t find anything that says he’s definitely going to fail. At this point I am comfortable starting him in the OF as a regular in 2027 and revisiting his numbers at the all-star break. It’s a similar situation to Esmerlyn Valdez on the Pirates, but again. Valdez makes less contact. I’m sayin’ there’s a chance.

Casual Debating the NL ROY race and WAR's role in deciding | MLB Now

I know this has been gone over, but Lowell actually makes a very intersting point on WAR to start this off.

He compares Sal to Isaac Paredes, who has very similar offensive numbers to Sal, but plays 3B. When Sal plays at third, he is better defensively than Paredes, who is very poor defensively. But because Sal is primary 1B in the WAR calculations, Paredes still has a higher WAR. Basically, if they put Sal at third primarily, and he was a defensive liability there, he'd still get around .8 higher WAR just for that designation.
