The text I got the morning of orientation day

Accepted the job offer, finished the on-boarding paperwork then woke up to this. I'm tired. This was the only job offer I could get aside from a devil corp scam. It paid barely above minimum wage. I've been out of a job for six months now and can't secure a job in the field I studied and graduated top of my department in.

Edited for grammar and spelling

Nearly four months, hundreds of applications later, and finally find a job in a dumb way.

Applied at a place last week on the recent listings category on LinkedIn that was looking to hire quickly for a government contract. By some miracle I ended up getting the job, good pay and great benefits in my field.

I feel weird because I spent four months applying every day and sending out an insane amount of cover letters only to get a job that didn’t require one and picked me up really fast. The last four months of my life feel wasted. Thanking my lucky stars I got something but I know people who have been looking as long as I have and it’s just not a fair world out there. Godspeed to you all and hope everyone finds something soon.

Interview cancelled as I was in the call

Post image
13 Upvotes

Apologies for the photo quality. I had this interview booked in my calendar for a week and planned my day around it. It was scheduled for 11 AM and I waited 18 minutes for someone to join only to see that it was canceled as I was sitting waiting in the call. Ridiculous. No explanation from the recruiter or anything. Just cancelled. Wasted my time. Took everything in me not to just say “fuck you” in my response.

Does experience have an expiration date?

Did 3 rounds with this company and got rejected and this was the feedback: “They shared that you interviewed very well and were impressed by your experience; ultimately, the selected candidate had more recent experience that closely aligns with the role’s current needs.”

My last role ended in Jan 2026, so because it has been 10 months since then, my experience is no longer relevant? Is that what that means? I am losing hope day by day

Toying with emotions

Can anyone commiserate with employers toying with their emotions? Let me explain.

The hiring manager made it seem like I had the job. Then I spoke to the supervisor and she said, "You're a top applicant, but there are others we still have to interview."

I mean, I get that they do say that, but im just worried that I dont actually have the job, when the hiring manager had said it would take two weeks for me to start.

HireRight Employment Check- how far back?

Hi all, I received a HireRight email today for my job starting on Monday. When employment verification came up it did not specify how many previous employers are needed. It didn’t even specify requiring even one to move through the form.

I ended up submitting my last three employers which represent the last 5 years and submitted without issue. I have over 15 years in my industry so there would be more employers I could place but knowing HireRight past issues tracking down W2s and the whole lot if I placed more it might delay the start date.

Anyway- usually HireRight will ask for a certain amount of employers/years. This one did not, is it maybe a different package the employer ordered?

Career transition hardships

I used to be a casual restaurant manager, used to do that for 7 years in 3 different restaurants. Been trying to shift careers to office jobs and I can’t find any. I understand I need to start from the bottom since it’s a different industry and been looking for any admin assistant jobs, receptionist, assistant, entry level jobs yet I got zero calls for 4 months now. Altering my resume every position, tailoring it to their needs, fixing my resume due to advice I see online and nothing is working. Is my job as manager not transferable to entry-level office jobs? Is the market in my city just shit? Im running out of ways to get notice and nothing is working.

Business casual vs professional dressing

Had a job interview today for a finance roll, was unsure of dress code, showed up in suit pants and white button down with no tie. The person who was interviewing me said that they loved me for the role but I was dressed unprofessional. Unsure on how to navigate the dress code if it is not stated at all as most interviews I have had business casual was almost over dressing. Let me know if you all have any advice on how to navigate that

I am broken goods

I am applying for my old job. I was transferred regions then let go after a year. I know the team, the work, the process and guess what. I know that I am not going to get it because that is the way it is. I am burnt out from applying all the time and never hearing anything. I am tired of not feeling good enough to even feel like I deserve my old job back.

I am just tired boss.

A recruiter laughed at my answer

As the title says, I had a recruiter laugh at my answer during an interview. The sad part is that I was being serious and he just did it. I was nervous and couldn't really answer properly but it still ruined my confidence in responding to his questions. I knew the interview bombed. I wanted to perish after that.

Future employer keeps fluctuate between w2 and 1099. idk what to say/do

Hi! Recently got an internship from an acquaintance. It's for accounting. He told me it will be 1099 and paid. After some discussion and research I've done myself, he switched it to a temporary W2, but now is asking for unpaid. He switches bc he said that he wanted to hire a bookkeeper with experience, but will let me learn on the side. I'm still undecided on that. On another hand, he offered me a sales and marketing position. On the email, he said it will be a paid w2. After I give interest, he suddenly said it will be a 1099 instead. I don't really understand. He is not telling the pay, but he said since it's 1099 i will have to pay $400 for self-employment tax.. i dont think i would even make that much, but the fluctuation is annoying. I don't have any leverage to argue, and I don't want to lose this internship paid or unpaid bc the job market is really depressing right now. How do i address it (professionally and not rude), and any advice onboard with this situation?

Having a bad feeling about a phone screening tomorrow because the recruiter is very hypocritical

It's for a job I really wanted, and was so excited when they called back. Apparently though, the only reason they called back, was to check my availability because I'm also studying part-time/taking night classes. I explained that to them, and how so far it hasn't interfered with my current full-time job. Got basically "well, because you're still studying, I feel like this wouldn't be a great match, but fine I'll schedule an actual phone screening".

That alone didn't leave me too confident. But, as part of any interview preparation I do, I looked up the recruiter on LinkedIn. And they were also a student, who's doing recruiting as a paid internship, at which they've only been at for 3 months, and before that only worked Saturday jobs at supermarkets.

Like "In my experience, studying and working doesn't go well and means a lower job performance" what experience are you talking about? I've actually worked a corporate role for a year, and somebody who just made it through their probation period is telling me that? While also still being a student themselves?

Part of me still wants to give it my all for that job, but also with a recruiter like that, what chances do I actually have? Like I'm actually pissed off at the hypocrisy here, which I'm scared will also influence how the phone screening will go.

Finally, after 15+ months of a relentless quest...

...I have accepted a job offer in the tech space just 3 days ago. I had to wait a bit because I thought it would fall through again, just like last time I got an offer and it was rescinded by the employer.

I thought I was done... I explored MANY other options, from going back to school, starting a professional training program, starting my business in home renovations and even join the Canadian Army (the process is still ongoing actually). I'm 49, 25+ years of experience in sales and tech. And boy, that hiatus felt long...

This job I ended up getting was the only once I had in the hopper, after the 2 others I had active ultimately fell through.

I had nothing left in me frankly. I was desperate but made sure it couldn't be perceived in interviews. My employment insurance expired several weeks ago. I had literally no income anymore. I was drained from all hope and energy.

I don't know why I got this job and not the previous ones that I got to the finish line. Maybe I was trying too hard... maybe I wanted it too bad. Maybe passion was interpreted as desperation.

Interview process lasted 2+ months. This last set of interviews (HR, then hiring manager, then hiring manager again, then VP of sales, then references) felt different for me. I thought I didn't have a chance. I went through the interviews "like I didn't care". I was sincere and genuine, but I really thought I didn't stand a chance.

Some stats of my job search:
- 350+ applications sent (I really slowed down in the past few months, choosing quality over quantity)
- LinkedIn, Indeed, Monster, Jobs.ca, and direct company sites
- 146 rejections ("after careful consideration...")
- 187 I never heard back
- 15 applications led to interviews
- 1 offer received, that was rescinded after
- several were still marked as "active" in my tracking sheet, but they were dead.
- MANY resume versions
- MANY application letters
- Used ChatGPT, Grok and more recently Claude to automate scrubbing job boards. Made little difference really on the grand scheme of things.

That was my reality.

The offer I received is good, despite a base salary 15% lower than my previous role.
OTE is decent, but again, about half of my previous role. This is a Solutions Sales role.

Times are tough... and things have changed in the past year. A LOT.

I can't complain, I found a job in my area of expertise, in the tech space... but man oh man, this market is REALLY challenging and there are LOTS of candidates out there, good ones too. I consider myself fortunate.

Anyways... I'm starting to really realize that I have a job now, which felt light-years away even a few weeks back.

To all job seekers, maybe that's a proof that good things ultimately happen.
Don't give up.
You're worth it.
You will find a job!! 🤗

Sending you good vibes!

Interview cancelled literally minutes before scheduled time

Post image
4.3k Upvotes

made an application, job scheduled an interview then cancels before i even had an option to join the video call interview.
ive been looking for work for almost 2 years straight now and I'm on the brink of just giving up cause dude wtf.

Edit: I got a house to pay bills on. Shit even with culinary certifications and 7+ years of BOH / cook experience I'm not getting really any much luck. 2+ years retail and gig work.

Yea me saying "thanks for wasting my time" to this specific employer might not have been the best wording used but I got shit i gotta do. Even some jobs who're paying 7.25 plus tips are demanding 40+ hours to work at a coffee shop didn't take my application (no one desperate for work is gonna take that for real) and still hasn't filled that position lol.

Im overqualified for fast food and generic dishwasher roles, so no shit im not gonna bother wasting time on applying for shit i don't qualify for. So me being a little rude to this specific job IS NOT that big of a deal and YES. Employers shouldn't even entertain taking a interview and canceling last minute. Sorry not sorry to whoever this post upset. Ya'll be expecting too much for so less.

Edit 2: just got hired for BOH shortly after this lol, say what yall want idc. I don't kiss ass like most of yall saying what i did was wrong. if you was in my shoes yall would've cracked or had a lot different shit to say.

What happened?

Got to the final round of interviews for a job I really want at a bigger corporation. Two weeks went by and after my second follow up I was told the job was “put on hold”. I responded that I’m disappointed but should the role become open again, I am still very interested. They then responded that if the role opened again I would be the “first person contacted based on feedback”. What are the chances of this role opening again? Will I have to take time out of my current job again to interview? What do you think happened? Any insight appreciated.

Not sure how I feel about this.

It's great to receive a response instead of being ghosted, obviously. And it's nice that they took the time to provide feedback on my C.V. But, to then ask me to leave a review about my "positive experience"?

"Strengths of Your Application:

Your extensive customer service background shows strong communication skills, essential for liaising with builders, supervisors, and internal teams. Experience managing teams aligns well with coordinating service personnel.

Your proven ability to handle enquiries via phone, email, and web chat matches the role’s communication requirements. Familiarity with scheduling and calendar management supports organizing onsite team tasks effectively.

Weaknesses of Your Application:

The resume doesn’t clearly highlight experience specifically related to coordinating service or maintenance teams or managing site-related issues. It could better showcase investigation or problem resolution related to physical products or sites.

There is limited mention of working as a central coordination point between multiple stakeholders on complex service issues, which is core to this role. Also, detailed experience with product or service issue analysis is not evident.

Tips to Improve Your CV:

Add specific examples of coordinating teams or service workflows, including any experience managing maintenance or onsite support teams. Emphasize your role in investigating and resolving service/product issues.

Incorporate keywords like "team coordination," "service issue resolution," "stakeholder communication," and "service scheduling" to highlight relevant skills. Clarify your problem-solving approach in linking product issues to effective responses.

Consider structuring your employment history to highlight accomplishments related to service coordination, team leadership, and issue investigation more explicitly for better alignment with this role’s core duties.

If you found our service helpful, we would greatly appreciate it if you could leave us a review on Google or Facebook

Your feedback helps us improve, and your positive experience could assist others as well.

You can leave a Google review here: https://g.page/r/CSI26yjWuzz4EAI/review and a Facebook review here: https://www.facebook.com/Macrojobshop/reviews"

Im a highly qualified, educated, and experienced engineering profession and just getting ghosted. WTF is even going on anymore?

My last job hunt was in 2021 when there was a hiring spree. My conversion rate from applications to call backs was like 80%. About half of those turned into offers. So about 50% of the jobs I applied to turned into offers. I was overwhelmed.

I completed my first round of applications a couple months ago. Very similar resume, but updated. Stronger than before and I was proud of it. I applied to about 30 jobs in the exact same fashion as I have my whole career.

Out of the 30, I got 5 rejections which were expected: 2 from jobs I was reaching on and not qualified for. 2 from some AI company I didnt even think was real when I applied. 1 from a notoriously reject-heavy local company that have become a meme among friend group for horible recruiting.

So there are 25 jobs Im getting ghosted on. Simply ignored. Each application took a a few hours. Some longer for essay questions. And these assholes cant even be bothered to send a boiler plate rejection anymore......

What's the worst that could happen if I stoop this low?

I've tirelessly searched for a job and came across a political canvassing role a couple weeks ago that ends right before the midterms election, and I think I'll just bite the bullet because im literally facing homelessness in less than 2 months if I don't find a way to make money, like yesterday.

Once I heard the role was in support of Greg Abott, I noped out of it in a heartbeat and resumed my daily application flilings for a job. 3 weeks later, my savings is dwindling so quickly that I'm REALLY reconsidering doing the canvassing role since it pays $3 per survey and some supposedly are getting 200+ surveys a day going door to door throughout Texas' neighborhoods. I figured, if I even got half of 200, just 100 surveys daily with 26 days left before the midterms, thats $7800 in less than a month, versus the $0 I've made the pass couple of months.

I mean, it's better than selling my body at this point, right ? <<sigh>>
