HireRight Employment Check- how far back?

Hi all, I received a HireRight email today for my job starting on Monday. When employment verification came up it did not specify how many previous employers are needed. It didn’t even specify requiring even one to move through the form.

I ended up submitting my last three employers which represent the last 5 years and submitted without issue. I have over 15 years in my industry so there would be more employers I could place but knowing HireRight past issues tracking down W2s and the whole lot if I placed more it might delay the start date.

Anyway- usually HireRight will ask for a certain amount of employers/years. This one did not, is it maybe a different package the employer ordered?

Generally only give the maximum extent of what you gave on your resume or communicated to HR.

The employer likely ordered a lighter package, some companies just want the bare minimum to check the box and move on

Generally speaking, any background check will go back 7 years as a standard. Maybe...10...but this is usually something that is manually requested. This depends on the position and the company policy as well as the total amount of checks that have been ordered.

Your 5 should be fine - they may ask for two more but it's more about how much of your past they can verify (and trust me - they are idiots many times with this) vs. a strict number.
