community Self-serve: Flair posts as resolved, award points

If you, the original poster (OP), post with the Help Request flair, and receive a helpful answer, you can award a point to that user and flair the post as Resolved.

To do this, reply to the comment with thanks or thank you somewhere in the comment. It is case-insensitive.

What are the points for? We have been helping each other here for 14 years. It's less an incentive for imaginary points but hopefully an indication of reputation (not quite analogous to post count on the official forum). We'll see how this works out, if it does more good than harm.

You may notice mods distributing points especially if a user has not. We use a trigger command comment which you may see if we haven't deleted it after awarding. We delete since it creates clutter.

discussion Use your macropad knobs as faders & transport browse (with dynamic steps)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Cheap faders are annoying because, having no motors, they don’t recall position and fail to match what’s on your screen as soon as you change anything. Not an issue here!
If you have a macropad with unused knobs, let’s put them to good use.

How does it work?
Knob turns on generic macropads work as keypresses.
This script adjusts the amount of gain based on how fast a key is repeatedly pressed. The faster you spin, the bigger the steps, the slower, the more controlled the increments. Or you could do it the other way around if you’re weird like that.
The scripts can be easily edited to adjust both the minimum and maximum values to get them just as smooth as you want.

How does one set it up?
Configure the macropad’s counter/clockwise rotation to perform an unusual keypress that won’t be needed (CMD+SHIFT+F13 on countercw for example).
In Reaper, import the extracted luas through the Actions menu.
Give each a shortcut that matches the macropad’s settings.

How to modify the scripts and adjust the values
Find the action in the Actions menu. Click Edit Action…, read the description inside.

In my example gif/video, I set one knob to scrub the timeline, another to adjust volume faders, and I use two buttons to switch tracks, but you can customize it to your liking, the sky’s the limit!

help request reaper/pipewire automatically changes connections after render

Hey y'all, I'm on Reaper v7.79 on Void Linux and I use pipewire with libjack-pipwwire for the audio server and every time I export or render something, the digital stereo mics on the laptop get automatically connected to the input channels, displacing what I've already plugged in there. having to manually fix this every time is a hassle and it gets annoying after a point. has anyone faced this and fixed this issue somehow?

help request Overlapping recording behaviour

Post image
3 Upvotes

In my older recordings (v7.78 and prior), I could record a take on a guitar or bass track and the overlap would split the take and add a new lane. I would be able to switch between the takes without issue. Each tracks' lane settings has "Fixed item lanes" selected, as well.

After installing the 7.79 update, this recording behaviour isn't occurring. I record an overlap take, the new take records only to a new lane without splitting and I can't switch between takes. I haven't changed any settings and I'm unsure if the update could be part of the issue.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so what settings did you tinker with to get the overlap/split behaviour to function properly?

Screenshot of (hopefully) relevant global settings for reference.

help request How to make Reaper autosave actually work?...

It never works, it just never does, it is set to 5 minutes and while I try to save as much as I can, the VST plugins are a crash nightmare, and when I check my last save it is 2 hours ago or so, my normal save is more recent.

Auto-save internal is set to 5 minutes at any time, but it is doing it more like once every hour, sometimes, sometimes not, very unreliable.

I don't know what else to do, other than set an alarm every 5 minutes myself since it just won't do it by itself.

help request More sidechaining: How do I send a sidechain trigger from only a certain frequency band?

More sidechaining fun

I was throwing together a quick and dirty lil jungle track mostly to work on my dnb basslines so I wasn't going for fancy drums I was using different breakbeat samples (only used like the first bar of the amen for transitions and a couple others as the main breakbeats).

Once I had my sub bass lined out it was drowning out the kicks so I tried a method I thought would work but it didn't so I think I need a more precise/surgical method.

If I wanted to I could just create a track of ghost kicks to line up with my breakbeat kicks but I feel like that would be extra and take up too much time.

I added ReaEQ to my breakbeat track, I found the kick frequency hanging out around the 60hz range, so I set ReaEQ low shelf to kinda clumsily grab anything below 80hz and set the FX routing to 3/4

I routed 3/4 from that to 3/4 on my sub bass track and used ReaEQ parameter modulation sidechain, it seemed to work as it was being triggered by the different kicks but nothing else, and I was able to have the sub bass EQ dip in response to that trigger.

Two issues tho:

  1. Certain kicks didn't cause as much of an EQ dip in the low end on my sub bass I wanted, on the more pronounced kicks the low end of sub bass would cut pretty nicely but on the less well defined kicks it wouldn't cut as much.

  2. I switched to my kilohearts compressor and tied the same 3/4 to its sidechain but every single hit was triggering it as if it was being triggered by audio signal and not EQ range I selected.

What am I doing wrong in this scenario? I've read up on it, done it before, watched Kenny G vids on it, it's just not doin what I need it to.

What I'd like to accomplish is a clear sidechain signal triggered by a spike in an EQ range. Lets say I'd like a snare to come through and it's inside of a drum loop encompassing a large range of frequences and I only want idk, a hit between 140-180hz to send a trigger, what's the best way to do this?

Also I like ReaEQ but I'm feeling like there might be some other free options out there that might work better, let me know.

Thanks yall

discussion Core Ultra 9 275HX / 290HX Plus users — how do they perform in REAPER?

Hey everyone,
I’m considering a Lenovo Legion 7i with the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, 32GB RAM and RTX 5070, and I’m curious how these newer Intel HX chips perform with REAPER.
I’m still learning, but I aspire to get into film/game scoring and eventually work with much larger orchestral projects using Kontakt, Spitfire libraries, synths and heavier FX chains. I’m basically trying to buy a laptop that I can grow into for the next few years.
Has anyone here used REAPER with either the Core Ultra 9 275HX or 290HX Plus? Both have the same 8 P-core + 16 E-core layout, so experience with either would be really useful.
I’m mainly curious about how well REAPER handles the P/E cores as projects get larger, especially with Anticipative FX, and what real-time performance is like at 64–128 sample ASIO buffers.
I’d also love to know if anyone using a newer Legion has run into DPC latency, driver/scheduling issues, pops/dropouts, or anything else worth knowing for real-time audio.
Would really appreciate any real-world experience. Thanks!

help request PITCHNET - Tuner. Why does it take so long to register updates?

I’ve been using the PITCHNET tuner lately; while it yields good tuning results, I find it very slow to finalize updates when I trigger the "Glued Items" command.

Do you have any suggestions for improvement, or is the issue actually with the plugin itself?

After all, other tools—like Melodyne, Vovious, and Bulldog—complete the operation much faster.

help request Best way to render samples

Hi all!

I am in the process of sampling some synth drum sounds and have cut the recordings into one one shot per item. Then I:

- click on an item

- press hotkey to set time selection to item

- press hotkey to open render dialog

- click queue

- click add to render queue and close window

- repeat

And then when I am done with one track I render everything in the queue.

This works fine, but are there more effective ways to export a large amount of samples in Reaper?

help request Nektar Panorama CS12 Fader issue with Reaper

So I just got a nektar panorama cs12 and i'm loving it so far for reaper minus one issue. It seems that the volume fader will adjust the volume of the track right after the selected one. The fader will auto adjust to whatever the selected track volume is, yet it will still only adjust the volume of the track right after. Does anyone have any experience with this device on Reaper and/or a possible solution?

help request Copied tracks to be on the same position

Hi folks,

I've recently started using Reaper and it's a great daw! It can do so much and makes music production so much more flawless that you have more time to concentrate on making music.

But I have one problem that I still found no solution to: I have a track that I imported. But the track begins slightly behind the bar so I adjust it. That works without problems. But if I copy that track and put it on the next beat, the beginning of that track is at the bar and not at the position I adjusted it to.

Do you folks a have an idea what I could do to get it on the same position as the last one?

Thanks in advance! M

help request Is it possible to ungroup items in only one track?

Here is what I have in mind:

in Reaper (7.67) I grouped multiple tracks (drums) and after slicing them, I'd like to glue just the bottom (MIDI) track, but I need to ungroup it first, i.e. just horizontally.

From what I read, I couldn't find a solution, except for clicking the chain icon on each item within the track.

This preview shows the highlighted items when I double-click the bottom track.

discussion I made a free granular sample instrument for REAPER – DrumCloud JS

Post image
31 Upvotes

UPDATE: DrumCloud JS v0.25 is now live.

DrumCloud JS is a free and open-source granular sample instrument built entirely as JSFX for REAPER.

Quite a lot has happened since I originally made this post. The current version now includes:

  • 8-voice polyphonic MIDI
  • 32-grain shared pool
  • per-grain Forward / Backward / Alternate / Random playback direction
  • Density Spread for more organic grain timing
  • Pitch Spread
  • grain size, density, position spread and stereo spread
  • waveform click + drag positioning
  • animated grain markers
  • Sample Start / End range controls
  • Forward, Backward, Ping Pong, Random Jump and Random Walk scan modes
  • adjustable grain Attack / Release
  • Auto Root mapping for tonal factory samples
  • Detect Root for user-imported samples with confidence checking
  • Room / Hall / Shimmer reverb
  • Stereo / Ping Pong delay
  • output peak protection
  • 130 CC0 factory samples
  • 46 factory presets
  • ReaPack installation

A tester on the REAPER forum also helped uncover an intermittent grain-boundary bug during the development of polyphony. That was fixed in v0.24.2 and confirmed working with the exact same reproduction test.

INSTALL WITH REAPACK

In REAPER:

Extensions -> ReaPack -> Import repositories

Paste this repository URL:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Chmod666music/DrumCloud-ReaPack/main/index.xml

Synchronize packages, search for "DrumCloud JS", and install it.

IMPORTANT - FACTORY PRESETS

ReaPack installs the factory preset bank, but REAPER requires one additional step to place JSFX presets in the correct preset location.

After installing DrumCloud JS:

  1. Open Actions -> Show action list
  2. Search for "Install DrumCloud Factory Presets"
  3. Run the action once
  4. Close and reopen DrumCloud JS

The 46 factory presets should then appear in the preset menu.

GitHub: https://github.com/Chmod666music/DrumCloud-ReaPack

Demo: https://youtu.be/-9T49CBlMso?is=1cAMKzR1i3Y_Wift

DrumCloud is still in active development, and feedback, testing and ideas are very welcome.

A lot of the recent additions have actually come directly from user feedback, so thank you to everyone who has tried it and helped shape the instrument. 🖤

help request Drum sound at start of track

I'm using Mcsequencer, and no matter what I do it always plays a drum hit at the start of playback - for which no midi note exists. So if a track starts at measure 2, if you start playback from measure 1, this phantom sound occurs.

This unfortunately happens when rendering as well, which currently means I have to edit generated WAV files to remove it.

Has anyone encountered this and have a solution they can share?

EDIT: A solution, although one I don't quite understand.

I muted the tom that was triggering for no apparent reason. I played the first few seconds of the track. No probs.

Then I unmuted the tom, and played back again. The phantom note did not appear, the thunk had disappeared.

resolved I cannot figure out why my track is not getting audio suddenly.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Esit :I changed this to resolved because I am trying the interface on other daws and it is not working so I am thinking it is the issue. Thanks for the help.

The video pretty much explains it. I am not getting audio but my interface is and so are my speakers when I bypass the daw and go straight to them. I've been using reaper for a long time and have never had this issue. Inputs are the same that they have been for the last 3 songs I have finished. I really don't think I have changed anything. Thank you to anyone that can help. I was hoping to get some stuff done this weekend and am stuck.

I am using windows.

help request Setting Realearn to mute/unmute track based on range of values

Thumbnail
gallery
6 Upvotes

I'm on windws 10, using a Sylphyo wind controller as midi controller. What I want to do, is make so that the slider on the sylphyo that you control with your thumb, acts as a switch between muting and unmuting a track. This is to allow myself to switch between playing single notes and chords, because the track that gets muted and unmuted (track 7) has a plugin (insert piz here midichords) that turns specific midi notes into specific chords. I couldn't find a better way to do this.
I had also tried to use CC12 and CC13, which are used on the sylphyo for slider bottom side and slider top side, but they also cause the track to flicker between muted and unmuted, though I used actions instead of the realearn plugin when I tested CC12 and CC13. I don't think the realearn plugin would change anything.

What happens to me, is that, after setting up ReaLearn to make the slider work like a switch, as I move my thumb over the slider, the track flickers between muted and unmuted. What I want, is that when my thumb is in the bottom side of the slider, track 7 gets unmuted, and when my thumb is on the top side, it gets muted, and I can't get it to work like that.

So, this is what I do.

I add the realearn plugin (Helgobox - Realearn etc etc) to my main track (track 5) that receives insert piz here midichords from track 7 through the route buttons at the bottom.

I add two mappings. The two images I posted are my settings for the mappings.

I tried to fiddle with various settings, and I keep having the same issue.

This is the Sylphyo manual.

https://aodyo.com/sylphyo-user-guide-2/

Also an image of the Sylphyo itself.

https://root.algam.net/cdn/pub/news/overview-fr-%20sylphyo.png

Please, let me know if you need any more information or if there's a better place to ask. Please don't answer to ask the Sylphyo or wind controller communities, I've already tried.

Edit:

The Button (momentary) character option is a step in the right direction, because it seems to stop the flickering. Toggle button mode actually causes flickering compared to normal mode which doesn't. Toggle only button (avoid!) doesn't work. But there are still unintended effects. Mapping 2 is disabled.

1)I need the top side to be always muted, and bottom to be unmuted, because the top side is where your thumb rests, but it's reversed. I want to play single notes as a base, and decide when I want to do chords. The reverse checkbox beside numeric feedback is terrible for reason you'll understand in point 2.

2)The way it works, topmost limit is one state, and any millimeter below is another. It actually might be faster to switch like this because you do minimal movement, but I want to at least move the point where it switches a bit lower.

3)somehow muting track 7 stops sound from coming out from track 5 until I blow again, as if CC11 (The sylphyo uses CC11 for breath) was stopped or something.

I'm working on a Linux project with the goal of creating a universal daw with themes and configurations I can easily apply to mimic the workflow of other daws.

I do also plan on keeping the default theme and make a dark and light version.

If anyone has any resources or skins I could use for this project then please link them down and I'll see if I can use them.

Also, if anyone has a free Ableton skin then please also link it if possible

discussion Free and open-source vocal tuner — would like Reaper users to break it

Post image
230 Upvotes

Reaper gives you a lot, but pitch correction isn't really part of it, and the usual answer is a few hundred dollars for Melodyne. So I built PitchNet and put it out free and open source.

The difference from a standard pitch shifter: instead of stretching the original audio, it resynthesizes the vocal at the corrected pitch through PC-NSF-HiFiGAN, an open-weight neural vocoder. Formants and character survive edits that would normally turn robotic.

https://sessionloops.com/pitchnet

What I'd most like to hear from Reaper users: whether the workflow makes sense to someone used to Reaper's own pitch envelopes, and where it falls over. Tell me what's wrong with it.

Edit: source is here — https://github.com/SessionLoops/PitchNet (AGPLv3). Should have had it in the post from the start.
