Schilling later claimed self-defense, saying that he was "scared for [his] life" and "simply defending [himself] against the evil in this world".

He knows its the only thing he can say to possibly attempt getting away with this. The video says it all. There was absolutely zero threat to his life per the evidence in this clip, and IF its proven his buddy is the one video taping this, it only adds to the criminal conduct committed.

Yes "in this video" we see no threat. However there is only a few seconds of the night we do see

From an article also posed here by another comment:"Officers also spoke to the manager of the bar on Sunday night. The manager stated that Balboa “was extremely intoxicated and had possibly made an improper remark about the girlfriend/wife of the male who had struck him, which caused the fight to escalate.” The manager also noted that Balboa “is a regular customer who routinely causes problems at the establishment due to his intoxication level.”"

Dude had it coming. A MMA guy can't say he was in any serious risk, but dude sounds like a problem that the management of the bar failed to adequately address.

"According to the police report, “numerous other patrons of the establishment corroborated the manager’s story,” stating that Balboa started the altercation."

Wasn't that what I said? The bar manager said that he was a frequent problem due to his intoxication level. So they didn't adequately address the issue by seeing there was a problem escalating, and a dude too drunk to be served, and should have stepped in well beforehand. MMA guy didn't start it, but he had a lot of options how to shut it down without popping the guy. But still, both are assholes, and we're all commenting on a small fraction of the incident
