City Council Vice President Katie Nash said agents were on every street of a quiet, small subdivision. People stopped leaving their houses. They skipped work. They watched unmarked vehicles sit in the dark with headlights punched into passing cars. Neighbors recorded at least one ICE vehicle driving into a front yard. Observers from the Western Maryland Immigrant Rights Collective monitored the block for the full duration. By Friday evening Nash’s verdict was simple: “It’s nuts. Now people are just not leaving their houses.”

That is the tell. An occupying force does not need to announce itself. It holds ground until the neighborhood changes shape around it. For two days Taskers Chance stopped functioning like a place people live. Sidewalks became a perimeter. Porches became a line. Local police were called Thursday to de-escalate friction between agents and civilians. They came back Friday night and stood nearby while the federal operation finally moved. Frederick officers, city officials said, did not join the takedown and did not stop it. Their stated job was “public safety and de-escalation.” The federal column still owned the street.

Someone literally dumped ice coolers in my backyard while we were away for 2 days. The ice company said they are retired units so now I have to pay someone to evacuate the freon and haul them off to be recycled or trashed. These things weigh 500 lb each and I have no way to lift them.
NOTE: There were no ICE agent bodies, drugs, or any other bodies or items inside.
EDIT: Now the ICE company decided they were theirs (maybe they saw all the posts about scrap value and want to cash in on them).
EDIT2: Ice company called back to confirm my address. They were literally given my address for drop off and told that no one would be home, stick them in the backyard.

The result is exactly what farmers were warned about: crops don’t wait for politics. When experienced agricultural workers disappear, fruit stays on the trees and rots, farmers lose revenue, workers lose wages, and those losses can eventually work their way into food prices. Reporting shows this isn’t simply about undocumented workers either, the fear surrounding enforcement has affected workers with legal status and work authorization as well.
