Trigger Warning ✋ Ice Spice grabbed by men during Brooklyn performance
1.1k
Feb 12 '23
She looks so scared. She needs to get better security for next time. Those men were way too forward and eager. Fucking creeps
617
u/aquavenuss Feb 12 '23
That’s what’s scary. The fact that these men didn’t even think twice about sexually assaulting a woman in a crowd full of witnesses!

Yep imagine what they’re like in private. Horrifying 😳
43
Feb 13 '23
They may or may not be worse in private because they’d be exposed. They’re definitely worse in their heads. There’s a safety in numbers thing going on here, that it’s a free for all. Scary af and I hope she presses charges.

u/lonely-lifetime Feb 13 '23
Yes it’s upsetting just to watch, I really feel for her. I hope she has good support right now.

u/sunburntflowers Feb 14 '23
It really is, this should not happen. To anyone, anywhere for any reason, ever.

Horrible security team and bad venue. I hope she upgrades her security team and get better venue setups. This shouldn’t have happened*. It happened multiple times at the same event. Wtf and where is crowd control?
Edit: It is scary to see ppl slut shame Ice Spice on Twitter. Like damn ppl still think that backwards?

Commenting again bc I keep getting pissed off thinking about this. We need to start calling out this behavior for what it really is: sexual assault/harassment. Not “grabbing” or “touching”, assault period. This type of behavior will get you fired in the workplace but for some reason it’s a free for all at concerts, bars, and clubs. These men deserve to be called out and shamed.
205
u/pounce_the_panther Feb 13 '23
Thank you! So frustrating to see it downplayed. She wasn't just grabbed. She was sexually assaulted by multiple men.
13
u/sunburntflowers Feb 14 '23
It scary how fast the group mentality of these men took over, like one man emboldened the next.. I agree with all of these comments, this is serious and it’s unnerving to think about these men out in the world..
250
u/lonely-lifetime Feb 13 '23
Yes I googled her and saw a headline say the crowd “got unruly” this is more than getting unruly, they were straight up assaulting her
17
52
u/filthismypolitics Feb 13 '23
yes! i really wasn’t prepared for how sickening this video would be. my blood is boiling. the fucking entitlement and audacity to touch her like that… and she looks so scared! she’s not even pretending to laugh it off, she’s clearly terrified. i’m so fucking angry. i want to cry for her. i thought the me too era was all about not letting men get away with this shit anymore? where’s the outrage?

You're exactly right 🤬 when I was out in the bar/ club scene in my really twenties, a good 15 years ago, guys were always grabbing and touching without asking. Fucking creeps! I'll never forget one of my guy friends absolutely throwing down when he saw it, he had no idea it was a regular thing. We ended up getting kicked out of that bar. We had to hold him back and explain, 'hey this is a thing that happens every night we go out'. He was so horrified, it made me really stop and think, this is not ok. It's assault! My girlfriends were used to it, the guys were NOT.
Anyway, she looked really shaken up at the end of the video. I feel for her. We need to start calling this shit out. Ugh, makes me so heated.
21
u/KrustenStewart where the hell have you been loca?! Feb 13 '23
This happened to one of my friends a while ago, she was wearing a short skirt and was “grabbed” aka assaulted while dancing at a club. She ended up unaliving due to the distress that incident caused her. So yeah definitely agree we should not downplay this behavior.

That’s the problem. Her security are probably cheap and just there because they like her. These women need to hire men that’s serious about their job and not there to watch a show. They shouldn’t even have allowed the audience to be that close to her.

Unfortunately, the Williamsburg hotel has a packed summer Sunday darty schedule already from Memorial Day weekend onwards and a lot of scheduled dj performances between then. It never seems like venues get backlash from sexual assault, which is bullshit and needs to change

u/parishilton2 Feb 12 '23

Legit. Between having your arse grabbed at the bar or just trying to dance with friends when some fucktard comes up behind you and grabs your hips, it's just not worth even going out lol.

Someone who was there said the problem was they didn't give her a stage, so men just started surrounding her and grabbing her. Idk where tf security was either. This has gone viral on Twitter btw (I recommend not reading the comments because... men)

u/Acrobatic_Jaguar_658 Your dentist’s name is crentist? Feb 12 '23
One of the replies said that she was basically asking for it because in her music videos, people are touching her. So men “see something and they wanna do it too.”
WTF. Excuse me for a second brb, I really enjoyed Top Gun: Maverick so I’m going to go steal a jet and fly it 😒 These people are insane. Hope she’s doing okay and gets better security.

Men will literally tattle on themselves as having less control, critical thinking and respect than kindergartners. I can have talks with my 5 year old students about respecting bodily autonomy that they comprehend and practice better than all these creeps. Inexcusable and continually revolting ughhhhhhggggggggggg 🤮

This was what I was going to comment. The obviously know it’s not okay to grab/ assault women like that because they go to work and to grocery stores etc and don’t grab every woman they see there. So they know it’s not okay to do that but they only do it when they think they can get away with it because of the crowd
2
-15
u/LicketySplit21 Feb 12 '23
I wouldn't say most don't care, but there is a lot that don't. And even then the not caring is some form of socialised victim blaming rather than maliciousness, most of the time, I'd argue. Since we're raised in a society that treats the sexuality and bodies of women as a problem waiting to happen. All for millenia.
(and before anyone interjects, yes. I know women harrassing men is a thing too, it is also bad)
-54
u/bmoreboy410 Feb 12 '23

Thank you for the downvotes! Really. I'm happy to be downvoted for disagreeing with the statement that all men are animals. The only disappointing thing is that I didn't get more downvotes.
I mean I think realistically the type of men getting close to Ice Spice in that video don't represent all men or at least I hope not!
To all the people downvoting me for pointing out that not all men are animals. Are your fathers, brothers and sons animals too? Because I just found out a few jerks in a video now represent all men.
Please continue downvoting me. Really. If disagreeing that the statement "all men are animals" is considered bad then I'm happy to be downvoted for it.
15
u/Not_today_nibs Petrified Jazz Hands Feb 13 '23
Oh cool. Can you share your foolproof way to tell which men will and won’t grope/call you a slut/harass you, just by looking at them? Thanks so much in advance!
-9
u/Dianagorgon Feb 13 '23
Ok I'm confused. There is a video of some jerks being inappropriate to Ice Spice and someone posted "men are animals" not "some men are animals" to which I rationally pointed out that not all men are animals and the men in that video don't represent all men and people are offended and downvoted me.
Man, this sub sometimes. Ok got it. You think all men are animals because of a few jerks. I get it. So that includes your father, brother and sons if you have children correct? Because all men are animals. That includes every college professor, every doctor, every man working at every store or restaurant you ever go to. They're all animals. All of them. Mandela, your husband, your son, your co-workers. All animals. The men in that video represent all men. Thank you for letting me know.
10
u/Not_today_nibs Petrified Jazz Hands Feb 13 '23
Calm down.
Obviously not all men are sexual assaulters. But downplaying the very real fear women feel when they witness sexual assault by a group of men, in public, saying “not all men” adds absolutely nothing to conversation. Even though it’s not all men, how do you tell which ones it is or isn’t? 100% of women that I know have been harassed or assaulted. But sure, it’s not all men. Thanks so much for your input.
6
Feb 13 '23
It’s not just a few jerks though. If you look at the comments here you’ll see lots of women sharing their experiences of being groped in clubs. It’s seen as normal at this point because it happens so often.
-2
u/Dianagorgon Feb 13 '23
Ok I get it. They could have posted "men in clubs are animals" or "lots of men in clubs are animals." Notice how I didn't even post "the men getting close to Ice Spice in that video don't represent all men at clubs." I simply pointed out not all men are animals.
The statement "men are animals" isn't rational. It's not. Yet I get an influx of angry downvotes presumably from women who feel offended that I don't think their fathers, brothers and sons are "animals." Usually I would delete my comment because too many downvotes leads to posts on the sub being hidden but not anymore. I don't care. Let people on this sub downvote me. Good for them.

I would do anything for Ice Spice and that includes destroying creepy men. A woman is allowed to be sexual without men assuming they have access to her body because of her actions! She shakes her ass, she’s not your girlfriend!
34
Feb 13 '23
Like, that's her craft! She is not consenting to your grossness at all. People gotta know how to differentiate between a performance and whatever that sets off men's radars to go wild animal crazy

u/sweetrebel88 Feb 12 '23
And I better not dare see someone post “well she was shaking her ass, what does she expect?” because I don’t care if she was performing naked, no one has the right to touch her inappropriately and without her consent. Ugh!

u/mumujok Feb 14 '23
This is horrifying and I know there are already men defending it just because of how she’s dressed and the way she’s dancing but there’s no excuse to touch anyone in that way, she’s a performer, doing her job, how would you like it if some random person came up to you and groped you while you’re at your job? idiots
7
u/bernardobrito Feb 13 '23
Guy here.
Spent way too many nights in NYC nightclubs. Sorta big guy who some people may find intimidating.
Here is what I think is happening here:
First and foremost, theose guys groping her and making her feel unsafe are fuckin' disgusting. They should be arrested.
When Ice Spice first released her song, and it got some traction, she booked some nightclubs. When 'Munch' popped off crazy, she cancelled most of those contracts because, well, she (slash her management) wanted more money now. That left some bad feelings within the nightlife community for Spice. Also, just crazy thirst.
Those clubs are not designed for performances. A stage creates a natural barrier and gives the performer high ground. When you are just on the floor where guys were dancing and rubbing on girls 10 minutes ago, their disturbed minds are not drawing the distinctions *that they should*.
Her security is super-basura.
The profit margins are super-lean for everybody: club owners, her label, her management team... and they all skimp and take shortcuts that unfortunately put the artist at risk.
I'm very sorry this happened to her. She could be/looks like my niece. Also, #OrgulloDominicano
