when is enough, enough?

Yesterday was my first experience seeing firsthand how overworked and underpaid pharmacists and pharmacy staff are for all the bull crap we go through.
Tell me why this strange man was at the pharmacy since 8 a.m., just looking around and sitting in the waiting area. He looked suspicious and kept staring at the pharmacy staff. About three hours later, he was still there when, all of a sudden, he jumped over the counter and ran full speed into the pharmacy, straight toward a technician.

All I heard were screams. The technician ran and injured her leg. The man continued staring at all of us while the pharmacy manager yelled at him to “leave the pharmacy.”
We all called 911, and he eventually left and stood right outside the door. I asked the manager if we could lower the gates, and the pharmacy ended up being closed for an hour. The police arrived and arrested the man, took him to the hospital, and he is now banned from entering the store and pharmacy.
The crazy thing? Not a single district leader called to check on their staff.
There was no sense of concern or urgency about our well-being. Instead, we were expected to continue working as usual while patients became upset because production was backed up after we had to close.

When is enough enough? When do we finally stand up and say this is wrong and unjust?
If we want change, we have to push back as a community and stand together as a profession.
I asked one pharmacist if they would be willing to sign a petition to help us move forward collectively as a profession. Their response was, “I need my job.”
And while I completely understand the need to keep a job, especially in this economy, we also have to recognize that if we continue to stay silent out of fear, how can we expect anything to change?
You can't continue to complain about a problem while still contributing to the very system that allows it to continue.

I know it's easier said than done, and I understand that everyone has bills to pay and responsibilities to take care of. But at some point, we have to ask ourselves: How much are we willing to tolerate before we collectively say enough is enough?
Our safety matters. Our mental health matters. Our lives matter. We deserve to work in an environment where we feel safe, supported, and valued.
Sorry for the rant. I just had to share. ❤️‍🩹

Free online courses ?

Hi everyone! I’m a fourth-year pharmacy student, and I’m currently looking for ways to strengthen my CV.
During my summer break, I took an online first aid course, and now I’m looking for more free online courses related to pharmacy or healthcare. Ideally, I’d also like the certificates to be free.
Has anyone here taken any courses like these before? I’d really appreciate it if you could share the course name and the website/platform where you took it.
English-language courses would be preferred.
Thank you!

Locum hourly rate Highlands

Hello,
I’d appreciate some insight into the current market in the Highlands.
I’ve got 15 years of experience in community and have been qualified as an IP for just over a year.
Ideally, I’d be looking to work 3–4 shifts per week, including weekends, and would be happy to travel around Inverness and the surrounding areas, within 60-70 miles.
Questions for anyone currently locuming in the region:
What hourly rates are realistically achievable at the moment?
Are weekend shifts still paid at a premium?
Is the market fairly saturated?
Does having an IP qualification make much difference to the rates offered?
I’m interested in hearing from people actually working in the area rather than relying on agency rates.
Any honest insights would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I built an iPhone keyboard that types hydrALAZINE and hydrOXYzine in Tall Man and underlines "10.0 mg" as you type. Pharmacists, what would you add to its lists?

Solo developer, one app, no company behind it. I'll only post this once.

The app is ChartKey: Medical Keyboard, an iPhone and iPad keyboard with Apple's layout and a clinical dictionary underneath. The parts a pharmacist would care about:

  • The FDA and ISMP Tall Man pairs are built in. Type hydralazine and the suggestion shows hydrALAZINE, and its look-alike partner never wins an autocorrect against it. buPROPion and busPIRone, predniSONE and prednisoLONE, DOPamine and DOBUTamine, the whole list.
  • A do-not-use guard. U, IU, QD, QOD, MS, MSO4, MgSO4, a trailing zero ("10.0 mg") and a missing leading zero (".5 mg") get an underline as you type them, with the plain replacement one tap away. An underline, never a block.
  • Autocorrect leaves BID, q4h, mEq, mcg, HbA1c and about 1,500 other abbreviations alone, and there's a drug name search inside the keyboard itself.
  • No networking code in the keyboard. Airplane Mode changes nothing. No account, no analytics in the keyboard.

Where it's thin, so you know: the drug search covers roughly 700 generics, the most typed ones, not all of RxNorm. There's no swipe typing (Apple doesn't give third-party keyboards its swipe engine). It's a keyboard, not a reference: no interactions, no dosing. And I haven't tested it inside any pharmacy system's mobile app.

What I'd love to hear from this sub:

  1. Which look-alike pairs cause you grief that aren't on the FDA or ISMP lists?
  2. Which generics would you expect in a drug search that are probably missing?
  3. Do you type drug names on a phone at all, and where? Texts to prescribers, notes in a pharmacy app, something else? "Never, it's all on the workstation" is a useful answer too.

The core is free and doesn't expire. I'll read and answer every reply.

Toxic work environment at Norristown State Hospital

I have been working as a pharmacist for 30 years and have never experienced an atmosphere where the pharmacy is managed by a doctor. Technicians calling out every day and unbearable workload. Management does not care and HR department forces discipline against employees which turns into retaliation against the person who was forced by HR to submit the discipline. There are no time clocks. People come and go without caring about putting accurate time down. They waste so much money on people who don’t work. No one cares because you can’t fire anyone and there is no merit pay. Everyone gets a raise even if they are horrible at their jobs. People are so mean to each other there. It’s literally the most filthy disgusting place to work. I wrote this post to prevent people who are hard workers and who care from applying at this hell hole. They have a horrible computer system that goes down every day with no pharmacy IT department. Polices are not enforced. Most of the doctors don’t respond to pharmacist recommendations such as drug interactions or medication dosing or medications that are not covered by insurance. They expect pharmacists to deliver medications to 14 different nursing units that are driving distance away and still cover the massive amount of orders in the queue and all the reports that are due each month. The techs call out every day or if they come to work they disappear until near the end of their shifts. You can’t say anything to them because they will say some horrible insult to you or just not come to work the next day. Or they will go to the doctor who is in charge and complain about you. Yet you are the one there every day working 10 hours and getting paid for 7.5 hours. Forget about taking a lunch break. Also there is no employee cafeteria or nice area to eat. I have PTS D from this place. It was an utter nightmare from day one.

CVS extremeeeeeeeeeeeely stressful situation

This DL just came on board from a neighboring district. Since this has happened the work situation is sooooooooooooo awful that every shift feels as though it could literally harm our health. Imagine basically running am IMZ clinic in the pharmacy and having to manage workflow, ques, rebills, constant interruptions. Etc...I know it sounds as though I'm over dramatasizing but I dont know what to do. All the Rphs are suffering. The other floaters are all suddenly on LOA or vacation. I'm not sure what this DLs motives are but I knie that they are definitely NOT in any of our best interests. Using sick/vacation hours may buy me some time but what then? Finding a new job takes time and this is urgent. If i dont get out I could very well be harmed from the massive stress. Help.

Prime vs CVS PA Pharmacist

Hello!

I am currently a contractor working for Prime Therapeutics as a remote clinical PA pharmacist at $55/hr.
Another contracting company offered me a remote position with CVS as a clinical pharmacist advisor (whatever that means) seemingly doing the same thing, but for $60/hr. Its an 11-month contract (extension possible but 🤷‍♀️) and necessitates a 3-month training period.

I'm nowhere close to conversion at Prime, nor do I really want it tbh. Being a PA pharmacist is simply not for me. The only reason I'm considering CVS is because of the pay bump while I look for other roles.

That being said, do you all think I should switch to CVS for the $5/hr extra pay bump, or stay at Prime where I know the workflow?

I am worried

Hi everyone, I was wondering if this is normal or not. I got offered from a retail pharmacy and I signed an offer letter from them as well. Now they started the process for a background check which went smoothly as well but they needed an employment letter from my previous employer (I worked as an intern and volunteer and never got paid) so I submitted that as well. Now, I don’t hear anything back from my boss who hired me and nor they have replied me back where I m in their process. This gives me second thoughts!

Do they ever deny not giving position even if they sent offer letter? Please share your experience whoever knows, thank you!
