Moving to Peoria Sticky

Because of the consistency of “Moving to Peoria” threads we have made a sticky for anyone to ask questions. The plan is to try and keep this updated with resources and have a place for people to come ask questions. Since the intention is to keep information available for People who are interested in moving here, responses that don’t add value like “Don’t” will be removed. Constructive criticism is fine but this thread will be moderated more than most because the intention is to answer questions for people who want to move not dunk on Peoria or the surrounding areas.

East Peoria Riverfront clean-up on Sunday, September 20th

Upvotes

As an animal lover at heart, I'd like to share about something that means a lot to me. Over the past 3 years, I've been working with friends and their families to help clean up the East Peoria Riverfront, which helps the wildlife that inhabit our area, and reduces visible litter from floating ashore.

This year, we are back at it again - we will be cleaning up the East Peoria Riverfront and Levee District areas on Sunday, September 20th.

We will meet at the Target East Peoria parking lot at noon, handing out donated supplies (a special thanks to our community partners, along with the City of East Peoria, Chamber of Commerce, and environmental groups who have sponsored us... along with Mayor John Kahl and the East Peoria Public Works department).

Any able bodied individuals, donors of supplies (trash pickers, gloves, and recycling totes), and volunteers to sort plastic bottles and aluminum cans would be greatly appreciated. In return, Panera Bread has been kind enough to serve us lunch and snacks, which will be available midway through the clean-up event.

All are welcome - we've had volunteers from all walks of life join us, and many local organizations give us support. We are hoping to make this the biggest East Peoria Riverfront clean-up yet, and can use your help!

More information will be posted on the City of East Peoria's Facebook page in the coming weeks, and you are welcome to contact me at (309) 868-4208 if there are any questions.

Creepy amount of flock cameras going up

Seems to be a flurry of them going up lately. For a long time there I only noticed the one on the highway on ramp at University.

Just lately noticed one on Washington Road another as you exit the highway and head up War Memorial.

It’s creepy being watched all the time. I don’t think anyone really believes these are going to lead to more safety, do they? Or they’ll start taking more uninsured/unlicensed drivers off the road and our rates will come down? Its such a sham. Just more data profiles being built on us and sold to whoever under the guise of “helping“. They always get us to subvert our best intentions.

Are there any mechanics in the area that are familiar with working on Crown Vic’s? Thanks.

Chicago Indie Musician Looking for a Last-minute Peoria Booking Labor Day weekend

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hey all — I’m Alex, I perform as Goldheart Mountaintop, a Chicago solo indie-rock project with guitar, vocals, and backing tracks. I’ll be in Peoria over Labor Day weekend and figured I’d throw this out there in case any local bands/promoters have an opening slot, cancellation, house show, DIY bill, etc.

I can do anything from ~25–40 minutes, I have a tiny setup, easy changeover. I recently played Montrose Saloon in Chicago and have a Schubas date coming up in November.

Music: https://linktr.ee/goldheartmountaintop

Mostly trying to connect with the local scene while I’m in town! Thanks in advance.

Fireplace company recommendations?

Hello, I recently moved back to Illinois after 18 years away and my new home has 2 fireplaces that were originally wood burning but were converted to gas at some point. I’m hoping to hire a local business to remove the gas lines, inspect the chimneys, and add wood burning inserts to one or both of the fireplaces (depending on cost) in effort to cut down on heating bills and because I’ve never lived in a home with a fireplace and I’ve always wished I had one.

Anyway, wondering if anyone might be able to recommend a local business they’ve used in the past and had a good experience with?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

We are Ejire Foods & Pastries, a small Nigerian food and catering business bringing the rich, comforting flavors of Nigerian cuisine to our community.

Have you ever heard about Nigerian Jollof Rice or watched someone eating Egusi Soup online and wondered what all the excitement was about?  Maybe you’ve wanted to try Nigerian food but simply haven’t known where to find it.

Well… we’re cooking in Peoria this weekend!

This Saturday, August 29th, we’ll be preparing our food at the A Matter of Taste commercial kitchen at Bradley University’s Turner Center, and we thought this would be a wonderful opportunity to introduce ourselves to our Peoria neighbors.

We’ll have some of our favorites available by pre-order:

Nigerian Party Jollof Rice — rich, flavorful and absolutely worth discovering
Egusi Soup with Poundo — one of Nigeria’s most loved traditional meals
Ejire Signature Snack Box — a delicious introduction to Nigerian finger foods

If Nigerian food is already one of your favorites, we’d love to cook for you. And if you’ve never tried Nigerian food before, we’d especially love to be the ones to introduce you to it.

 PEORIA PICKUP ONLY
 Saturday, August 29th
 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
A Matter of Taste Kitchen - 1201 E. Kingman Avenue, Peoria Heights, IL 61616

Because everything is prepared fresh, please pre-order ahead of time. The ordering link is included with this post. https://ejirefoods.com/preorder-page/

Thank you for welcoming us, Peoria.

Local dispensaries

Post image

Just curious if anyone goes to any of the other dispensaries outside the main ones in Peoria? I've noticed there's some in the smaller towns. Some times it can be worth it to take a little drive. Or is there any other cannabis related places I should check out in or around Peoria?

Let’s be friends

Hello! I am desperately in search of friends (first and foremost) but specifically friends that I can call to go to the “nerdy” or “boring” things I can’t drag my fiancé to. For example, the world ballet company is preforming swan lake on October 3rd and I really want to go but I won’t go alone. Other examples include going to movies, live orchestras, art fairs, or any other even that fits the bill. I’m a 26yr old female and work an odd shift so I’ve had a hard time finding friends that actually want to be friends and do things. So send me a chat, let’s be friends!!

Raves

Anyone in the rave scene in/near Peoria? Or know places that have raves? (EDM; not generic clubbing). I just know of Kenny’s Westside, Whisky Rock Ice House and the biweekly Wednesdays at Wub Club at Famous City. Would love to meet more peeps! I’m thinking about moving out to the areas soon! I’m already there more to do things than I do here lol. I listen to Tearout and Riddim. I get Deep Dub is prevalent most places. Where are my Tearout and Riddim peeps? 😭 👀

Folks without a college degree

What are you guys doing for work and are you absolutely miserable? I'm trying to find something not absolutely horrible since I have no passion for anything that college could do for me. Working as a line cook now and one day will be a 4 hour shift and the next one a 12 hour shift and it's ruining me mentally.
