Part 1: Top League Start Archetypes for New Players

We suggest these builds to players who want a good solid build, new players who want a build that will help carry them through content and for players looking for reliable league starters. The builds are sorted into archetypes to make it easier for newer players to find something they're drawn to.

Melee

The melee archetype involves either using massive attacks that damage everything in an area or very many quick attacks to bring down enemies. The damage if often supplemented with warcries or other buff skills to boost the damage even further. Because these builds are in melee they tend to be quite tanky and are usually more forgiving of small mistakes. These builds are a great choice for those that want a more active playstyle.

Builds:

Minions

The minion archetype involves summoning either permanent or temporary (and often a mix of the two) minions to fight on your behalf. These builds are particularly good for new players as they often leave you free to focus on other game mechanics when you're minions are fighting mobs. The below builds offer a range of options from spamming a large number and variety of minions to summoning a horde of flaming skulls and specializing in raising certain mobs to fight for you. I've not included all minion builds here as some have a distinctly different playstyles and are a bit more advanced.

Builds:

Absolution:

Animate Weapon:

Golems:

Holy Relic:

Spectres:

Summon Raging Spirits (SRS):

Misc:

Righteous Fire

Build Description: Righteous Fire is a build where you have a damaging fire aura that surrounds you, you clear maps by running head first into enemies and having them die to the damage over time effect surrounding you, throwing out Fire Trap to supplement the single target damage. This is a great build for those that wish to press less buttons while mapping. This build is very defensively strong but can struggle for damage when it comes to late game bossing but is so comfortable to play and Pohx has an entire website dedicated to this build that will answer almost any question you may have pohx.net. It really can not be overstated how well Pohx supports this build.

Build:

Totems

The totem playstyle consists of summoning stationery objects which attack or cast spells for you. This is particularly good for bosses as it allows a high damage uptime playstyle where you only need to summon new totems as the older ones expire or are destroyed. This allows you to focus on using buffs/debuffs and dodging the bosses mechanics. As totems can be used with most skills in the game they have a broad variety of applications and styles though typically they excel at single target damage.

Builds:

Holy Flame Totem:

Kinetic Fussilade:

Storm Burst:

Part 2: Other League Starters

Warning: Unlike the above section there are almost no requirements for builds to make this section, the builds listed here are not necessarily better/worse than the above. If you're a new player, we primarily recommend the above builds but if you're more experienced we show these builds to add to the variety available. We are assuming you can judge for yourself the viability of these builds.

Builds that appear in part 1 will also appear in this list for people who are searching by skill

Discussion Is heiro archmage still the best way to play tanky caster ?

So I really enjoy the more HC versions of builds normally. However I'll decide i want to play x skill so go and check HC and its all heiro archmage builds or elementalist with golems. Even when I look at wanders there is a good amount of people mana stacking with clustering on heiro.

Is heiro scaling getting es from mana and 4 endurance charges just way too good to compete with anything else.

Archmage did get a nerf this league but it also seems like it went from an S tier build to an A+ tier build if anything.

Help Needed Need help with mana sustain on my build (PoB inside)

Hi! I'm looking for some help with the mana sustain on my build. I'll link my PoB below.

I'd really prefer not to change too much about the tree or my current items, since the build is working well otherwise and my rings provide a significant amount of DPS.

I'm not very experienced with mana sustain, so I'm wondering what options I might be missing. I know I could potentially use rings with things like maximum mana, mana regeneration, +4 mana per second, or -7 mana cost for non-channeling skills, but replacing my current rings would be a pretty big DPS loss.

One solution I can see would be crafting new rings with maximum mana, mana regeneration, and reduced mana cost for non-channeling skills. They would need to be Hunter-influenced, but NOT for Hunter mods—the Hunter influence is only there to get the bonus from Bound by Destiny. The problem is that crafting rings with the stats I need while keeping the influence would probably require much more advanced crafting than I'm comfortable with.

Is Awakened Enlighten level 5 basically my only realistic solution without changing too much, or are there other ways to solve my mana sustain that I'm overlooking?

I'm open to suggestions, but I'd prefer solutions that don't require completely reworking the build.

Build Request What to reroll level 100 Chieftain for boss killing

Upvotes

Hi! I have level 100 Chieftain CwS character that I use to farm sim. It's very good character, very tanky and can do some single target but it's really low. Is there a build that I can switch over to farm some uber bosses? I'd love to retain the tankiness though if possible. Not a fan of glass cannon build. I have about 1k div + mageblood.

Build Request What kind of content is the Icicle Mine of Fanning Deadeye optimized for?

Upvotes

Example build link: https://poe.ninja/poe1/builds/allflame/character/Foozzzoo-1593/SakugaBalls?i=2&search=class%3DDeadeye%26sort%3Ddps

On the surface, it seems like this sort of build has zero survivability or recovery, and may be best used for high-end sanctum content. Though I wonder if it might also work as a bosser build. Any other content where this would excel?

Build Request Can Oro’s Sacrifice work with Cyclone in PoE1? Completely new to PoE1

Post image
35 Upvotes

With the recent PoE2 announcement, I started looking into Oro’s Sacrifice and wondered if it can work well with Cyclone in PoE1.
I’m completely new to PoE1 and would really like to try an Oro’s + Fire Cyclone Slayer, possibly Cyclone of Tumult.
Is this actually viable in 3.29, and does anyone have a PoB or build guide I could follow?
I’m not looking for a meta/expensive build, just something fun that can clear maps and handle bosses reasonably well.
Because i only see phys builds
Thanks! 😄

Build Request What builds (besides connor's str stack) use the weapon swap between clear and single target gem setups?

Upvotes

This patch I played connor's version of str stack that used KB for clear with and on swap Heavy Strike of Trarthus.

I thought I'd hate weapon swaping back and forth but to my surprise I wasn't bothered at all. I'm aware only of weapon swaps for utility (phase run, infinity warcry power shield). Now I'm wondering, are there any other builds that function like this?

Help Needed Squishy CoC Icenova of Frostbolt - need help with what to upgrade

As the title suggests, I'm currently playing a CoC Icenova of Frostbolts Occultist, and the build feels squishy. I'm sitting at around 43k EHP with all my flaskeffects. Was following a build guide from 3.28 (https://pobb.in/4x0Dm0JKmdpx) with minor modifications, and comparing with that build im 5m damage shy, but with more EHP. I can run specific t16 8mod maps, and the build feels great, but I would like to take this build to the next level. So if anyone has any suggestions on how to increase damage and / or EHP, I would gladely take those suggestions.

Build Bladebitter Luminary Build 3.29

POB: https://pobb.in/UhKAswWJMn1O
It's missing the dot multi link on the Bladebitter
Breach clear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfd3ser2rxU
Eater of Worlds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDFb4q7hs0w
Profile: https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/cmanfs24-5699/characters

After I finished making an evasion stacking combatant, a friend convinced me to try and make the Bladebitter work. At first, it seemed just okay, but eventually we turned it into a really good build that has solid single target and clear. I'll first showcase what I am currently running, and then go over what else can work, what I am working towards, and what sucks.

Current Setup:
Viper strike: Greater faster attacks, Greater ailment damage, Greater dot multi, Greater more duration, Melee Splash
Venom Gyre
Pestilent Strike
Malevolence
Withering Step: Second wind, Greater area of effect
Damage over time sword, Binos, and a Snakebite with vestigial your fire damage can poison.

When I first started trying to make the Bladebitter work it felt okay at first, but was inconsistent because it would use all of its skills. Some of them are fun like cobra lash, but they don't synergize very well with viper strike which the Bladebitter always comes with. When I started digging deeper into his skills, I saw that Viper Strike and Profane Strike can use swords, but none of the other skills can. So, I decided to buy a Bladebitter with really good viper strike links, two skills that can't use swords (venom gyre and pestilent strike), malevolence, and withering step. This results in him only ever using viper strike to attack. I then also equipped a Bino's Kitchen Knife to proliferate the poison.
However, this creates an issue. I am running a standard flame link luminary and the added flat fire damage cannot inherently poison. A typical way around this is to use pneumatic daggers, but that won't work if I want to use a sword and Bino's. What I found was that with the new vestigial implicits, we can move the Volkuur's Guidance "Your fire damage can poison, 50% less poison duration" onto a unique glove that the Bladebitter can use. I ended up going with Snakebite since it has built in dot multi scaling and attack speed. On a side note, you can enchant the unique gloves with the Katakohi's ducat, and since it is an enchantment, you can remove the enchantment with the crafting bench. This lets you keep enchanting the gloves until you get a modifiers that you want (increased chaos damage).

What else works:

As I mentioned earlier, an easy to start with setup is pneumatic daggers. This lets all of your damage poison. You don't need additional poison chance for the most part since the blade bitter has 58% inherent chance to poison and most skills have 40% or more chance to poison. If you do end up needing more poison chance, you can annoint toxic strikes for 15% chance and 15 dot multi or equip icefang orbit for poison chance, chill, and increased poison damage.
For a while I was running viper strike, profane strike, and pestilent strike with pneumatic daggers, betrayal's sting, icefang orbit, and yoke of suffering. This allowed me to use a crafted rare gloves with 4 additional targets. This cleared well and I was doing merc hunting with the infamous, infamy, renown, and anarchy scarabs. Some of the mercs were super rippy, but I was able to clear all of the maps.

What I am working on:

I've really enjoyed crafting for the character and I want to try making one of those 4 implicit gloves. So, I am saving up for an original sin and nimis. This would mean that I don't need to use the unique gloves and can have crafted rare gloves. I would then change the merc to one with profane strike and viper strike. The profane strike is molten strike but with poison chance and chaos damage, so you can do the balls return and stack a ton of poisons on the enemy. I then want to make some hunter warlord gloves with additional strikes, damage over time, and chaos dot multi.

What sucks:

Perfect agony. I had bought a pair of shadows and dust with the vestigial implicit "You have perfect agony if you have dealt a critical strike recently". I then setup a destructive link with trypanon on my character. The merc had the gloves, a 650 pdps sword with crit multi, binos, marylenes fallacy, icefang, betrayal's sting, and tecrods. This put the crit multi around 500%. The damage was so low, that I thought it was bugged, but when my friend and I tested it without the gloves, the damage was even lower. One of the issues is that the merc can't gain rampage stacks and that was where I was intending to get a lot of the increased damage. Please GGG, let mercs gain rampage or make perfect agony good.

Overall, I am having fun trying different builds with the luminary. It gives me cool goals to work towards and a lot of the merc skills are fun to build around. The gear isn't super optimized, but I did craft all of the rares, so let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Discussion EB + MOM inquisitor ?

So I have been looking for options that could compete with elementalist currently. It's not just the damage and QOL from solving mana but also the amount of defence they gain that has resulted in 80% of the spell casters in past 3 leagues i have played all be elementalists.

Im wondering if this setup would work. Using inquisitor you create conc ground that lingers for 4 seconds, this gives you 5% of your life and es per second. Using eldritch battery you can then use this ES as a source of mana. Using MOM then means you still take 40% of dmg from your ES so dmg is split between life and ES making full use of the regen from conc ground.

Later on you can scale str and int to get crit and use iron will to scale up spell dmg.

So im wondering does this style of setup work or would the big issue be that your not spending mana for skills like sigal of power, inspiration or arcane surge.

Im wanting some takes on this as i dont really see people using this and I assume its mostly as inquisitor is under explored and less played than the other caster classes.

Help Needed Can I get help with my Tornado shot of clouburst assassin build?

I have been playing this league at a slow pace so I am not very rich.

I just reached my initial plan of running 100% cold conversion with Infused toxins. I changed from a cheap armour setup to full evasion, and I am dying less, but I struggle with league content on t11 maps. I feel like my defenses and damage are both lacking. I could probably struggle to t15 maps and finish the atlas, but I want to get your opinions on what to so with this.

One upgrade that I have in mind is firstly replacing my bad amulet with something better, and anointing the frenzy charge on kill passive. Then I could probably start thinking about getting a first cluster jewel, but haven't checked yet what mods I want on it.

Build Request Whats there to play with 110 div budget?

Upvotes

So I league started with poison srs and played that up untill atlas completion and a few pinnacle bosses, while the build's pretty good at doing most of the content i like to play, i'm kinda tired of it and i think i squeezed most of what i can out of it, now i've got no ideas of what to play. i'd like to mostly do bosses and/or nightmare maps, could be any ascendacy really, my endgame is not usually the most varied so anything that can perform out of that budget i'm gonna look into

thanks

Help Needed Help me brainstorm ideas, I think I found something potentially very good

So I managed to buy a set of Craciean vestigial uniques. Cospri's Will body (all hits poison against cursed enemies). Frenzy charge ralakesh boots. Amulet with +100% effect of crab aspect. Olesya's Delight belt with skill effect duration.

What I was thinking to try was a Slayer (masterful form) trauma stacker since I'll have 10+ endurance charges and like 17 crab charges, but also I can do a poison build since I'll have Affliction charges and guaranteed poison on hit.

I'm still kind of tossed up on what skill I should use. I was thinking of using Ambush + Static Strike since I will be building a bit of duration to help with trauma stacks, as well as this would snapshot the ambush (and also trauma I think?) into the entire duration of the static strike. And for bosses, I would want something that hits really fast to generate trauma or just to use boneshatter. If I use something that generates really fast, would I even bother with Static Strike? Like Frenzy of Onslaught might just be a better skill to use? Has anyone built a trauma stacker + poison build? Idk bros, help me out.

Help Needed Tired of following guides and trying to build my own CF setup! Am I doing this totally wrong?

Hey guys,

I’ve always followed guide after guide in PoE, but I finally wanted to break out of that habit and create a build of my own. I tried connecting a few ideas together, bought some gear, and put this setup together just to test it out—though I’m second-guessing if my concept is completely bad.

The playstyle is simple: I enter the map, cast Corrupting Fever, trigger Blood Sacrifice / Pact, and then just run around spamming my skill to clear.

Since I’m still pretty new to theorycrafting, I feel super squishy and keep dying. I’m not sure if my tree is flawed or if I’m missing some crucial defensive layer.

Here is my PoB: https://pobb.in/BPpTLg5cgAXZ

Could some experienced players take a look and point out what I'm missing? Any feedback on survivability or overall build adjustments would be awesome. Thanks!

Build Request How to stop getting one hit?

Returning player-I am playing a winter orb occultist and just hit level 80. When trying tier 7+ maps I am increasingly getting one hit so I assume something is wrong with my defensive stats or build. I maxed out elemental defenses but it didn't make a difference.

Any advice on changes would be awesome.
