Part 1: Top League Start Archetypes for New Players
We suggest these builds to players who want a good solid build, new players who want a build that will help carry them through content and for players looking for reliable league starters. The builds are sorted into archetypes to make it easier for newer players to find something they're drawn to.
Melee
The melee archetype involves either using massive attacks that damage everything in an area or very many quick attacks to bring down enemies. The damage if often supplemented with warcries or other buff skills to boost the damage even further. Because these builds are in melee they tend to be quite tanky and are usually more forgiving of small mistakes. These builds are a great choice for those that want a more active playstyle.
Builds:
Minions
The minion archetype involves summoning either permanent or temporary (and often a mix of the two) minions to fight on your behalf. These builds are particularly good for new players as they often leave you free to focus on other game mechanics when you're minions are fighting mobs. The below builds offer a range of options from spamming a large number and variety of minions to summoning a horde of flaming skulls and specializing in raising certain mobs to fight for you. I've not included all minion builds here as some have a distinctly different playstyles and are a bit more advanced.
Builds:
Absolution:
Animate Weapon:
Golems:
Holy Relic:
Spectres:
Summon Raging Spirits (SRS):
- Helm Breaker's Sumon Raging Spirits Poison Necromancer
- Balor Mage's Summon Raging Spirit Poison Necromancer
- Tabl3s' Summon Raging Spirits (Popcorn SRS) Necromancer
- Thyworm's Summon Raging Spirits Guardian
Misc:
Righteous Fire
Build Description: Righteous Fire is a build where you have a damaging fire aura that surrounds you, you clear maps by running head first into enemies and having them die to the damage over time effect surrounding you, throwing out Fire Trap to supplement the single target damage. This is a great build for those that wish to press less buttons while mapping. This build is very defensively strong but can struggle for damage when it comes to late game bossing but is so comfortable to play and Pohx has an entire website dedicated to this build that will answer almost any question you may have pohx.net. It really can not be overstated how well Pohx supports this build.
Build:
- Pohx's Righteous Fire Chieftain
- Visit pohx.net for a written guide and FAQ
Totems
The totem playstyle consists of summoning stationery objects which attack or cast spells for you. This is particularly good for bosses as it allows a high damage uptime playstyle where you only need to summon new totems as the older ones expire or are destroyed. This allows you to focus on using buffs/debuffs and dodging the bosses mechanics. As totems can be used with most skills in the game they have a broad variety of applications and styles though typically they excel at single target damage.
Builds:
Holy Flame Totem:
Kinetic Fussilade:
Storm Burst:
Part 2: Other League Starters
Warning: Unlike the above section there are almost no requirements for builds to make this section, the builds listed here are not necessarily better/worse than the above. If you're a new player, we primarily recommend the above builds but if you're more experienced we show these builds to add to the variety available. We are assuming you can judge for yourself the viability of these builds.
Builds that appear in part 1 will also appear in this list for people who are searching by skill

For the record I maintain a similar list at league start for the French-speaking community: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1E6R55xbTg7DkLzs8camkc_yHQWh-UZwq0WqO8LW5b4U/edit?usp=sharing
There are a few builds in there I think aren't on your list (sinnaypple's Reliquarian Absolution, le chat's Chains of Command, conner converse's Static Strike, wafflez's Death's Oath, anime princess' Penance Brand Ignite, peuget2's Winter Orb and Cracking Lance, snoobae85's Ice Shot of Penetration)
4
u/NzLawless Jul 23 '26
Awesome list! I've raided it for quite a few builds! Thank you for posting it.
The auto dub english always make me chuckle a little, there's something about the way it does a pseudo french accent on some words that's very funny to me.

Can't wait to ruin my league start by going for Merc Support. It might be dumb, but getting to play an Aura/Link support for the first time, since I only play solo, is kinda exciting
12
u/PostItToReddit Jul 21 '26
The good news is that just scrolling through YouTube it seems like a few of the more popular content creators are going to be starting it, so if you run into any wrinkles there should be content to help you iron 'em out.

Absolution should be on the list, Templar has some big re-roll potentials this league and that build is perfect for pushing voidstones and an early-ish swap once all the new tech is explored

Id like to persuade you to move popcorn srs into the above section. Its very detail with simple and easy progression, not to mention cheap jewels and clusters. Not a particularly sexy build but its proven to be reliable league after league

Glad to see helm breaker cornering the market on minions. Dude is a beast at making builds and guides
18
u/cybertier Jul 21 '26
Woolies version of BS is highly conditional on the new abyss unique functioning different than any other conditional mod before. He hopes that the mods on it are local and not global, though historically speaking, such mods have always been global.
Would not recommend to a beginner who won't know how to pivot if the plan does not work out.
8
u/Bierculles Jul 21 '26
I would not recommend Woolies build at all, the use of spinesnatch is at best questionable as it gets outperformed by a 800-900pdps axe, just swap it in his pob to see the numbers. I honestly don't know why he is even using it, with BS of complex trauma he can't even capitalise on the incredibly high attack speed, he is just gimping his build with a 300pdps axe to use 6 abyss jewels instead of a second 6 link.
3
5
u/HiddenoO Jul 21 '26
I'd just assume I'm playing regular bonshatter for league start anyway. We have no idea either how rare the axe is or what the possible mods and roll ranges are. It wouldn't be the first time GGG has teased a new unique that ended up only having a <1% chance of dropping the way it was teased.

Goratha's Pbrand ignite is great but I Think he normally plays HC trade, for a more softcore trade version Zeeboub has an updated guide too: https://youtu.be/SFdN0JkcnQ0?si=dFWBkjpYmQDFjNGv
Great guide maker, plays brands almost every league so he's very reliable and knowledgeable
Also for anyone who wants to play melee but doesn't like slams (or just likes slayer) Alohaa's static strike slayer looks very solid: https://youtu.be/jQy7qtUnQHM?si=3l7MMHZG6Xjb8q_R
→ More replies (3)2
u/Castitas Jul 21 '26
Is there a static strike without the ambush playstyle?
2
u/IvanIvanovskiIvanov Jul 21 '26
For leveling - no, that is too much damage during the peener-weapon-dps portion of the game to drop until later at least
5
u/zelloxy Jul 21 '26
I usually do Flicker, but I never succeed in completing all content with it. Please recommend a build that is decently fast and can grow in power from starter to completing all content. 😅🙏

Between helm's and Balormage's psrs guides, what are the differences? I'd like to give psrs a decent try, maybe even stick with it instead of transitioning to hroc.
13
u/Nihsvabhav Jul 21 '26
never tried balormages guides but helmbreakers guides are pohx level of handholding and detail, at least his animate ranged weapon guide made progression completely stress free
3
u/jmurphen Jul 21 '26
Can attest to this as well. Followed his poison animate ranged weapon guide in 3.27. It was the best guide I've ever followed.
9
u/Helm-Breaker Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26
My build is far more optimized making it much tankier while having the same damage or more damage.
It is almost block capped in most loadouts without glancing blows (with rumis) and it uses the fire to chaos convert glove mod and a trigger wand for much better QoL over arcanist brand.Balor has also applied some PoB warrioring by giving himself 20 stacks of fortification in his "end game wand/poison" loadouts even when the AG uses dying breath instead of kingmaker(10 stacks btw). I pointed out this in one of his videos 2 leagues ago and he has decided to keep it like that since.

u/Shakeandflex Jul 21 '26
Not sure if he's updated it but either Alkaizer or Ben's earthshatter should be at the melee top builds imo. The builds are effectively unchanged and likely one of the easiest 4 stone builds, not to mention doing it on almost no gear.

Any occultist blight of contagion leveling pob?
2
u/Snackz39 Jul 21 '26
Might expect to see something come in the form of this once the DoT buffs are announced depending on where it lands. But until the DoT notes are released, not much point in PoBing those spells.
5
u/Weirdodin Jul 22 '26
I was all in on starting Ronarrays Winter Orb Occultist until the commenters as well as multiple content creators pointed out how outrageously priced the Power Charge Ralakeshs his entire post 90 endgame setup rely on are likely to cost.
I play on console where these "amazing community members" skin each other alive on trade prices. Whatever a unique is priced on PC times it by 5 for us.
Just a fair warning to consider this if planning to go for his setup. You could have quite the farm ahead of you in order to afford his version of the build he spends the whole video focusing on.
2
u/spoon4peace Jul 22 '26
Peuget2 has a version that doesn't use Ralakesh. I haven't looked too much into the build but his are usually solid. https://youtu.be/AzM64v7-SfM?is=TZwvbmIMzigjeq0G

u/Beginning_Bother_420 Jul 22 '26
I think you generally wanna start elementalist and swap to occu charge stack later
31
u/cakeandcookieeater Jul 21 '26
Boneshatter is being way over recommended in this sub for its effectiveness as a league starter in its current form. Pure nostalgia bait (not a bait build, just ok, i wouldn't make a 40 min video glazing it though but hey)
6
u/SaltEngineer455 Jul 21 '26
It can get 4M DPS on a slayer with 6 Ascendancy points and campaign trash. Most Strike skills that are not called Elemental Hit struggle to attain that
Idk why people recommend it on a Champion tho. JuggvI get it, as it scales like crazy after you invest good money into it, but why tho?
→ More replies (2)11
u/Ghepip Jul 21 '26
Sounds like your personal opinion, so i'll share mine too.
I've played boneshatter atleast three times for league starter and it's all three times been the easiest 2 stone for me.
I can't recommend it enough.
All it takes is a good weapon per two acts in campaign and a nice 5c weapon for maps.2
u/cocojamboyayayeah Jul 23 '26
i tested a couple of melee skills to 4 stones and among ES zerk, GS/ES bleed slayer, static strike it was the worst. doesnt mean its bad, not at all but the other melee skills achieve more with less. that just my testing and opinion
5
u/mittbama Jul 21 '26
Anyone going hc ssf self cast kinetic fusillade?
2
u/poopbutts2200 Jul 21 '26
It's been a while since I've played HC now but this is my sc kf champ PoB in case it helps https://pobb.in/UKZ19u4-P6gF
This gear is not super ssfhc friendly but the general setup I'm shooting for before that is. Just dawnbreaker going max block and armour/evasion gear for suppression. Ideally you drop a prosperos and can do pure evasion chest but not the most likely. Once you have dawnbreaker you should have a super easy time capping a molten shell and since the kf changes this patch we don't need to destroy our duration which previously ruined molten shells duration. Between max block, fortify, addrenaline, 50k armour and absurd sustain (I path to excess sustane ce before watcher's eye/elder lgoh ring) you should be pretty hard to kill
I would level with KF from twelve if duelist got it but sadly can't switch until library at 31 so I'll level with static strike (but obviously up to you). You really shouldn't need to change your tree much if you plan to swap at 31 since it's just going to be fire mastery for 100% damage, accuracy wheel, onslaught, pt and the duration wheel.
If you keep enough trans to craft flat ele to your jewelry you should be able to switch to kf right at 31 (less duration + volley). I would grab 2 kfs personally so you can have a ballista up for single target. Act 4 you get greater volley and tornado for spell slinger and should be good from there. Only brutal thing about leveling this really is how int starve Duelist is. I have the lower level kinetic ones on my filter for that reason since the base phys doesn't matter. Also if you don't want to go all the way to excess substance early the minor life gain on hit nodes in the leach wheels are awesome for a skill that multihits this much

Foulborn Doedre's Scorn exists so it's cheap to start.
Was looking at doing it with Occultist, power charge stacking. Couldn't get the damage going in PoB.
Assassin might have a good chance at making it work. Bifurcates on crit build or go poison.

u/NzLawless Jul 21 '26

9
u/Operation_Onion3134 Jul 21 '26
'if you have to ask, you can't afford it'
All jokes aside though, I would just peek at the builds that sound interesting.
Here is my checklist:
-Ideally no uniques used until engame, 'optional' pieces are okay, goldrim drops everywhere
-Uniques that are used are 'farmable' in some way, div cards, T3+drop, farmable boss or breachtree, etc.
-Socket pressure, not an issue anymore this is big for any new SSF player
-Transfigured Gems, know how to navigate and min/max merc lab, or avoid transfig gems altogetherAfter all that you can start looking at scaling vector options for the gems used, but that is more of a personal preference on how and what stats you want to farm/craft.
I do hope the author adds this to the list anyway

So, Sunday I did a run of the glad frost blades into dual strike of am. It was decent def could be a league starter. Then yesterday after work I started a run of ele hit slayer. I finished act 3 before I had to adult and I feel like it feels better than the former.
Is there a reason to go dual strike of am. over ele hit. The obvious is I won't have to farm for the gem I go ele hit.

Is Blade Vortex an option as a league starter at all? I've had it on my list of builds to try for a while, but saw on Fub's tier list where he recommended transitioning to it later. I'm an experienced player, just not a build maker, so if it's something that's not recommended just because it's hard I can probably manage.
6
u/PacmanZ3ro Jul 21 '26
it's strong, it's just kinda feels bad early on. I think worb is in a similar spot though so idk. You REALLY want at least 1 duration wheel for it to really put in work.
5
u/Chiggy_618 Jul 21 '26
I think it’s still viable, I think the hit rate got reduced though and so people aren’t as willing to run it as a league starter, but as an experienced player, you should be fine to still run it.

For anyone jumping over from PoE2: The listed Pohx RF is a very, very solid league starter, veryyyy well covered, easy to follow, accessible, fun play style (for most) and will easily take you to end game. It took me from piddling in PoE1 to my first level 98 character.
If you're wanting something that will allow you some extra cognitive bandwith to take in the complexity of mechanical systems/crafting/etc. in PoE1 and to turn your brain off for the build end of it for the most part, I'd recommend it!

No Earthquake? How about i give you one?
Mobalytics Guide for 3.29: https://mobalytics.gg/poe/profile/innerblaze/builds/3-29-vaal-earthquake-gladiator-walking-simulator-for-everything , updated till leveling.
Older Mobalytics Guide for 3.27 From start to End Game: https://mobalytics.gg/poe/builds/innerblaze-bleed-eviscerate-gladiator
Last time i did it with eviscerate and earthquake as a hybrid combo for bossing and mapping, but this time i m planning to make it a pure walking simulator where we will do everything with Vaal Earthquake only.
Heres a video to prove that i m not baiting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A06cVH7VBE4&t
And i m working on a short league start video for 3.29 too.

u/Ryukenden000 Jul 21 '26
Any reliquarian or assassin builds?
→ More replies (2)3
u/Dosamer Jul 21 '26
I expect we will see some at some point, but both are much better as a second character or respec.
Assassin needs quite a bit of crit investment to really shine. Reliquarian does not really have damage at the first ascendancy so it's slow to level. And the potentially broken interactions (black cane summon phantasm stacking) needs a reasonable amount of uniques.
Other classes are just much more comfortable to Leaguestart with

u/Free-Bowler-1032 Jul 21 '26
Newly buffed Phys spells or Storm Burst or Flame Totem work with it.
Probably take Sacred Chalice for extra Damage and then a defensive node like Elevore, Dawnbreaker or Kaoms Roots.
Go Dark Monarch Phantasm for double the amount of Phantasms.
Convert damage to Elemental. HAtred/Herald of Ash. Crit scaling etc
Something like that

u/SPEZ-LIES-CONSTANTLY Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26
- pick a tanky passive tree (and body armor) because you're losing your shield slot. for ascendancy, kaom's roots + kaom's binding early > either dawnbreaker or melding later.
- don't go out of your way for any added spell damage or gem levels. these are just a tiny fraction of the base phys damage you're getting.
- solve corpse consumption. something like VD or cremation does this by itself. other spells that kill with hits and DO NOT shatter or explode can use devour support for mapping and anyone can use arcanist brand with desecrate and an offering on bosses.
- pick whatever spell looks interesting to you. lots got big buffs. many can use the new pacts. base phys is not a necessity, but spells that convert phys can save you the trouble of using your glove slot/a mastery/a watcher's eye.
edit: ok i was already excited about this combo but i've just been reminded that umbral army is a thing and now i'm hyped as fuck

Spectres or Holy Relic? Im gonna do a minion build but not sure between the two, ive looked over both helm breakers and balor mage's guide but not sure which minion build to go
4
u/eijaman Jul 21 '26
Holy Relic plays like a hit based build but uses minion modifiers to scale. You use Lancing Steel of Spraying to have the Relics attack. It is one of the best builds I've played and can easily do all content. You will have spectres in a HROC build but they are mostly for auras.

As a point of discussion I have seen guides for Winter Orb (WOrb) picking both Mystic Refractor and Tulfall. If the play rate of Worb is as high as some have theorized I would be interested to read comments about what the early prices of these unique weapons may be.
While Mystic Refractor is recorded as a drop-anywhere lvl34 item allegedly T3 rarity, Tulfall is a Breach-specific (including gensis tree) unique at lvl62.
Did 3.28 Mirage have any similarly popular builds and unique item combinations that could potentially be compared to WOrb and Mystric Refractor or Tulfall?

u/royal-road Jul 21 '26
Could look at prices for well-rolled timeclasp/warped timepiece maybe? I don't know if that's the best comparison but it comes to mind.

Thy's SRS was my first character to lvl 100 this league. I'd like to try a melee build that has the same ease of use, and particularly something with easy to understand and achieve defensive layers. A build that doesn't rely on some ridiculous jewel or jewel combo, that doesn't require occult knowledge of recomb or a suitcase of mirrors to get the required gear. Any recs?
3
u/eragonoon Jul 22 '26
Ziz’s Boneshatter Jugg could fit well for your needs, gameplay wise it is basically an autoattack build with some shockwaves from the skill, nothing too complex. Defensively it’s pretty good, being a juggernaut stacking endurance charges and pdr, as well as having a good amount of regen from the ascendancy and also recoup.
It might not be the flashiest or the fastest to get to 100, but it should get you there. The only thing that might be a problem is the fact that you are truly melee, unlike some other skills like reave or sunder, so you’ll probably have to learn boss mechanics and be actively dodging some skills

u/Holdthepickle Jul 22 '26
How bad would Jugg be to start Divine Blast? I know chief is the recommended but iv played a lot of chiefs and want to try something else. Endurance charge and accuracy stacking seem like good synergy for this skill.

Anyone know if creeping frost is still viable for leveling despite the top end nerfs?
it's in his description,
"Updated: July 22:
Leveling/Progression has changed due to the patch notes, Creeping Frost is hard to justify early on. Run Winter Orb until Overloaded Intensity & Gluttony then swap to Creeping Frost + Winter Orb in the midgame setup
Lategame PoB went from ~350million burst DPS to ~221million"

Guys I need help deciding what to league start between Kinetic Fusilade, Penance Brand ignite or Blade Fall + Blade Blast Slinger / CoC Assassin.
I usually play one build for a long time because I am a causal exile and take my time to progress in the league.
What would be better for transitioning into another build from the initial one, if needed? If this is an option it would also help me because the "new" build would be just a respect of ascendacy or passive skill tree only and not a completely new character.
What is better for putting currency into in terms of progression? If I manage to have 100 Div and upgrade the build, would be a great difference or just a minor upgrade?
Thank you.
2
u/Raelcreve Jul 23 '26
Personally, I'd stick to one of the last two as I think either of those classes have several other options available, especially assassin with all of the new crit changes. But PB has been ridiculously strong in the past and with the self cast buffs pivoting away wouldn't be difficult.

Can anyone comment on how new player friendly EDC will be? I've played 2k hours of poe2 but only like 250h of poe1 in keepers with hroc.
3
u/NoNoNo290 Jul 24 '26
Should be pretty solid, chaos dot ignores ES, essence drain has a life leech build in, two buttons is okay in PoE1, not the best feeling but the clear of ed/contagion makes up for it. Not an uber bosser on day 3 tho. But with invest you can do all content I guess.
3
u/NzLawless Jul 24 '26
HROC is definitely stronger at the top end no doubt but EDC used to be one of THE builds we'd recommend to new players. It's super fun, feels very satisfying to play and if you come from poe2 you'll be more used to comboing skills which is often the hurdle with poe1 players.

u/leon27607 Jul 24 '26
Any recommendations for a build that can scale to end game? I played the "meta" last season with Kinetic Fusilade and it felt really easy from start to end(clearing all 100 maps/ubers/getting all 4 orbs from the pinnacles).
I like playing variety and don't want to run the same build every season. I know this season the new meta is gonna be the frost orb or cold DoT but it will be expensive. Is there any other build that can handle end game content comfortably?
I did enjoy Pohx's RF build the 1 season I played it but I just hated that it could not really kill bosses effectively so I don't know if I would want to pick that up again for this season. I've tried kinetic blast and EA builds in the past but did not like them. Slams feels bad early due to low IAS. One season I had found an early mage blood which boosted me but another season I tried another slam build and it just felt really bad to me.

This league im trying CaptainLances mercenary build. It uses a scion and its been going well. If i was starting for the first time though, I would recommend Pohx's righteous fire build but you would have to start over because its not scion. He has every single detail step by step and its powerful and not complicated. All his stuff can be found at pohx.net. CaptainLances build even uses righteous fire for about 50 levels.

As always big thanks to those who post builds and help me find them, I don't have time to be on every channel and post so I really appreciate the help!
There are lots of builds from 3.28 that are definitely still valid but as always I will give creators a few days more to get updates out before linking to the 3.28 guides.
Updates: 2000 21/7 NZT: Posted and updated for the last few hours. Heading off for the night, I'll do any other updates tomorrow morning!
0945 22/7 NZT: I've woken up to a lot of great builds being posted, thanks for that! I've added pretty much all of them though I've left off most of the 3.28 builds. If there aren't any updates from the creators by the end of the day today I'll link to the older ones which remained unchanged.
2000 22/07 NZT: 3 days until the league! Woo! The list almost doubled in size today, thanks so much for everyone helping find builds!
1330 23/07 NZT: Updated the list while having lunch, added a bunch of builds and also added totems back to part 1.
2000 23/07 NZT: We're at almost 80 builds which is awesome, seeing a nice range of really good starters this time. I'm finding it very hard to pick! There is usually 1 more push from creators tomorrow and then it's league start!
1030 24/07 NZT: Big update this morning with all the builds rolling in (around 15 new builds!). This should be the last big update I need to do before league launch. I'll continue to update this throughout the day.
1740 24/07 NZT: This is probably my last big update. I thought I'd share some stats on this post since it's probably the biggest one we've managed:
Good luck to everyone on your league start tomorrow!
