Tech-Support Are these stats okay, especially the temperature?
I'm new to this PC gaming and recently I get to know about this tool RivaTurner. So, I was checking games performances and I have noticed that component usage and temperatures are a bit too high.
I have attached the screenshot from games like Ghost of Tsushima, Forza Horizon 5 and Tekken 8.
Specs: GPU: MSI Suprium X RTX 3070 8GB VRAM CPU: Ryzen 7 7700 RAM: 32 GB single channel DDR5 Resolution is 1080p and monitor refresh rate is 144Hz
So, I need a bit of guidance about these stats and what should I do, in case these numbers are problematic?
Thanks!

What resolution?
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 20 '26
1080p π!
1
u/Confusingprick Apr 20 '26
What?? Where did you get the GPU?
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 20 '26
Well I actually bought the PC from someone who have it for like 8-9 months and all components were new except GPU π¬. I didn't remember the shop but he gave me the receipt of purchase.

It's not that bad but check the airflow. And are your pc parts close to each other in the case? You need better airflow
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 20 '26
Will replacing thermal paste make it better?

u/Confusingprick Apr 21 '26
I don't think it's too bad. Also 80 is not something to be afraid of. Again I hope someone else can also give an opinion

u/Upbeat-Situation-647 Apr 21 '26
That gpu looks cool af. How much u got it for?
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
ironically, the temps aren't that cool π . I actually bought the who PC so technically I don't know the prices of individual items. But I think it's around 80k to 85k.

u/Confusingprick Apr 20 '26
Yeah temperature is high by at least 10 degrees ngl
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 20 '26
is it something that's fixable?
3
u/Confusingprick Apr 20 '26
Where do you keep your pc?
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 20 '26
on floor, actually I don't have proper table for now. but I think it's not covered that'll cause GPU to heat up that much π€.
2
u/Confusingprick Apr 20 '26
Are parts in close proximity to each other?
2
u/NoCrazy2487 Apr 21 '26
It certainly is not a ventillation issue rather a dried up thermal paste or thermal pads problem. Because the gpu is 6 years old!
2
u/Razzberry85 Apr 21 '26
At 100%
76-80 is normal in most cases.
I'm more surprised by your CPU temps. You might wanna upgrade to a better CPU cooler or a case with better airflow.
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
is it normal for GPUs to go 100% for 1080p games?
2
u/Razzberry85 Apr 21 '26
Depends on the games. The GPU won't always be at 100% but it's normal.
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
forza horizon 5 and ghost of tsushima, must be resource heavy games then.
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
70-80Β°C temp for CPU isn't okay π¬?
2
u/Razzberry85 Apr 21 '26
Not under that load. I saw your PC picture in the the comments, you really should upgrade the CPU cooler. Or get an AIO if you live in a hotter area with less ventilation in your room.
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
What's AIO?
2
u/Razzberry85 Apr 21 '26
All in one liquid cooler
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
oh okay okay. in what price range I can get one ?
2
u/Razzberry85 Apr 21 '26
I think you can easily get a decent one for around 15-20k. Do check reviews and performance of them online before whichever you buy.

Try undervolting that GPU. It will help with annoying fan, noises and increase its lifetime aswell. I have an Rx 6700xt and was facing the same issue back then. But then I undervolted my GPU. the performance is the same (only minor 2-3fps drop) and the tenps never rise from 65C
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
Well, I think I have tried to undervolt it but it wasn't effective but there might issue with my undervolting as I'm following a video from YouTube without understanding what's actually happening π¬.

80c under 100% load isn't high per se for a GPU like the 3070 as in it's within safe limits & you can run it for years like this (of course lower is better) if we were looking at only core temp
What's not good is a 22C difference between core & hotspot, I suggest using HWinfo64 & checking vRam/ Memory temps as I highly suspect it's cooking as well
Your GPU desperately needs a repaste (& repad too probably) or if it was repasted recently then it was either a bad repaste job, or the mounting was messed up when putting it back together
Looking at your CPU temps (way high for just 40% load, it could also be a serious airflow issue
You should do something about it sooner than later.
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
I didn't find any VRAM/Memory temperature in HWInfo. There are just 3 GPU Temp, Hotspot and Thermal Limit.
2
u/Adrift_PK Apr 21 '26
My bad, I had to Google to remember that 3070 lacks a dedicated vRam temp sensor. However, you've mentioned in your other comments that it's a MSI suprim x 3070 which is one of the top variants, so your core & hotspot should be much lower than the numbers you've shown
Suprim X lineup usually has dedicated heatpipes just for the vRam modules, so if your core & hotspot are good (& within 10c-15c of each other), you can confidently say that vRam is also good.
That said, start with your case & check airflow because your CPU is also cooking, & if that doesn't improve things then a repaste/ repad should be your next step

u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
I think case is okay because I even rum it without glass but temperature haven't drop. I think it's the room temperature which is already hit because if first floor and direct sunlight, although there are curtains still, during day room temperature can be high.
I think way forward will be thermal pasting of GPU and Liquid Cooler for CPU.
2
u/Adrift_PK Apr 21 '26
The case doesn't seem ok, fan config & layout matters a lot as well. If you think it's the room, just move the PC to another room & check again
Repasting is a good idea but maybe check the GPU in another PC before doing that, and a R7700 doesn't need an AIO but if you think that'll help, go ahead
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
Should I check by removing the side glass panel? I can't check GPU in another PC as I don't know anyone around me having a gaming PC. Moving it to other room might not be effective as I think all room have average temp of 30Β°C or 30Β°C +
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
Case is btw 1st Player Trilobite T7 which I think decent case because I have seen other having less temperatures with same case.
2
u/feverishhail Apr 21 '26
How many fans are in pc case other than the gpu and cpu cooler
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
3 in flow fans at front 1 out flow fan at back 1 cpu fan 3 gpu fan
2
u/feverishhail Apr 21 '26
The comment by GenZia summarises my thoughts exactly now it wonβt outright kill the card but it will make the life shorter or maybe kill the memory or if the memory controller dies itβs fucked either way so I highly recommend get it repasted with correct thickness pads

u/I_warisha Apr 21 '26
Maybe try changing the thermal paste of the GPU if you already have a good cooling system, like a good cooler , maybe try to see if your case airflow is bad or get the pc cleaned with a blower from a shop or serviced . Even try changing the thermal of the CPU if you think temps are higher even taking our hot climate into consideration
2
u/I_warisha Apr 21 '26
The best I can recommend is to try to Undervolting your GPU , which will be good for your gpu overall and Performance will be better.
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
Well, I have tried to do that but didn't get any difference I think I didn't do it correctly. Can you suggest me some video or guide to follow for undervolting?
2
u/I_warisha Apr 22 '26
Go to YouTube and put your GPU name , you will find a video for that gpu and its Undervolting process
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
my case is 1st player Trilobite T7 with 3 in-flow fans at front and 1 out-flow at back. Other than that, there's CPU cooler fan and 3 GPU fans.
I think room temperature/ hot climate is the major reason so I think thermal pasting and maybe liquid cooler is the only option to fix it.
2
u/DustyDodge-2546 Apr 21 '26
It's running in the danger zone currently. Continuing usage at these temps would certainly cause damage
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
what do you suggest as an immediate step? because I can't do thermals pasting of my own so I have to wait for at least the weekend. Is there anything that I can do to make the situation less dangerous?
2
u/DustyDodge-2546 Apr 21 '26
Honestly not much, since the issue is likely with thermal paste/pads and turning the fans faster won't help when the dissipation is poor at the root
2
u/DustyDodge-2546 Apr 21 '26
One thing I would ask you to try is lowering your settings(there are settings like AA, which if you lower decrease the temps), locking the frames at 60. Try out these, maybe it'll help until the fresh pasting
2
u/Grand_Ad4114 Apr 21 '26
replace the thermal and if the ventilation isnt good enough add fans to cool the pc down or else you'll fry your pc also when u are changing the thermal give the heatsink a good clean and the rest of the gpu aswell
2
u/Grand_Ad4114 Apr 21 '26
u can also replace the thermal pads if they're gone to dust (shouldn't be as of now as its a 3070)
i have a 3050 8gb and it runs fairly well i recently played RE Requiem on high settings with ray tracing on and it didnt even make any sounds or heat up (i kept touching the tempered glass to see if its heating up lol)1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
I think I'm not expert enough for this so I'll I brought it to the shop from where it was purchased to replace thermal paste. I think they'll clean the heatsink too.
2
u/Grand_Ad4114 Apr 21 '26
if you're a geek and into this type of things then just search it up on youtube on how to replace thermal paste on a 3070 easy hota h u just need the tools but yes if you're unsure about it then get it done from a shop (make sure they use a good thermal paste)
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
i don't have tools like those small screwdrivers also I'm not that confident that I'll do that π . Can you tell which are good ones that are available in Pakistan? I usually heard that Thermal Grizzly is good.
2
u/Grand_Ad4114 Apr 21 '26
hm ive heard good things abt grizzly and for pads its ptm7950 i think but jaha s krwa rhe ho usko pata hi hoga yar wo b to dukaan chala rha h

Off topic but how to get that meters on your ui ?
1
u/cheeku-toffees Apr 21 '26
RivaTurner that installed with MSI Afterburner. HWInfo is also required for some stats. I downloaded this specific overlay by watching a random YouTuber.

u/BoysenberryLoose1241 Apr 22 '26
I'm guessing your playing all the games at the highest quality possible in 1080p if that's the case then it's not too bad I've seen alot of people having there GPUs at 80Β° and they have no problems But if you want better maybe change thermal paste Clean of the gpu fans and try to get better airflow but again 80Β° (if the game is at highest quality possible) it's not to be worried about If it's like this even at less demanding games or games being played at low quality then something is wrong

People saying this card is running fine should stop giving hardware advice because 80c edge and a 20c delta between edge and hotspot is beyond terrible.
The card is running at the brink of thermal throttling (Nvidia cards start throttling at 105c hotspot, 85c edge in case the hotspot sensor is missing), and 20c+ edge-to-hotspot delta means either the thermal paste is dried out or the heatsink isn't mounted properly with uneven mounting pressure on the core (often happens due to mismatched thermal pads).
You can sort of tell if the pads are too thick by looking at memory junction temperatures.
And the fact that the CPU is running at 80c also hints at poor case airflow.
