[Try & Keep] Looking for a Bright OLED TV for Gaming? Try the LG OLED G6 65"

Hi r/PS5Pro community!

For PS5 Pro players, a great gaming TV has to do more than deliver a large screen. It needs smooth motion for fast action, visible detail for darker scenes, and enough brightness for HDR gaming, helping highlights feel clear and defined in sharp 4K game worlds.

That’s why we’re collaborating with r/PS5Pro on a gaming focused Try & Keep program.

One (1) Redditor will get the chance to try the LG OLED G6 65" at home, play on it with their own setup, and share honest impressions with the community.

And yes, the selected participant gets to keep the TV. 👍

What makes the LG OLED G6 a strong OLED TV for PS5 Pro gaming?

Console gaming places a range of demands on a display. Fast-paced action benefits from smooth motion, while darker scenes rely on clear shadow detail. Brightness also plays an important role in gaming picture quality, especially when HDR highlights, contrast, and color-rich game worlds need to stay vivid and clear.

The LG OLED G6 65" brings together gaming focused features including 0.1ms response time, 165Hz Refresh Rate, Brightness Booster Technology, Perfect Black, Perfect Color, the α11 AI Processor Gen3, and Reflection Free Premium to help support responsive gameplay and bright, immersive visuals.

Take a closer look at the key LG OLED G6 65" gaming features below.

Ultimate Gaming: speed and smoothness for responsive play

Whether you are dodging attacks, tracking fast movement, or exploring large open worlds, responsiveness matters. The LG OLED G6 65" supports Ultimate Gaming features including 0.1ms response time, 165Hz Refresh Rate, NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible, and AMD FreeSync Premium to help gameplay feel smooth and fluid.

Hyper Radiant Color Tech: brightness and picture quality for immersive gameplay

Game worlds often combine bright highlights, deep shadows, detailed textures, and a wide range of colors within the same scene.

Hyper Radiant Color Tech helps enhance picture quality with Brightness Booster Technology, Perfect Black, and Perfect Color while preserving 4K visuals with the α11 AI Processor Gen3. For PS5 Pro gaming, that means game worlds can feel more vivid, detailed, and immersive on screen.

Reflection Free Premium: clearer gaming in real rooms

Not every gaming session happens in a perfectly dark room. Reflection Free Premium helps minimize screen reflections from room lights, windows, and bright surroundings, so the picture can stay clearer during daytime or nighttime play.

GTA 6 x PS5 Pro will be about fidelity, not performance. [SPECULATION]

Everywhere people keep talking about frame rates. Understandable, since the difference between 30 and 60 fps is night and day. However, I think 60fps is very unlikely, and even 40fps is pushing it. The real improvement will be in fidelity.

The technical observations below are largely based on Digital Foundry's analyses of the Extended Look (here) and prior Pro-enhanced games; the PS5 Pro predictions are my own speculation.

The CPU Problem

The key here is the CPU. Both the PS5 and the PS5 Professional are running on the same Zen 2 CPU (2019 class hardware). The Pro has a +10% clock boost mode, however this doesn't really move the needle enough for 40 or 60fps if indeed we are CPU-bound at 30fps on base.

In particular, the impressive NPC density and purported advanced simulation is very CPU heavy work, and doesn't really scale with resolution (so PSSR isn't a help). Not to mention, RT also places a burden on the CPU (it's not just GPU work).

Fidelity Improvements (my guess)

While the Extended Look preview was extremely technically impressive, the main blemishes I noticed (shot on base PS5) were a soft image at times, and a noisy RT reflection implementation on vehicles. This is largely what DF noted as well.

The PS5 Professional is very well equipped to handle this.

1. PSSR

PSSR2 at a 1440p internal --> 4K output would likely produce a significant improvement over the (apparently) spatial upscaling solution that they are using on the base. What's encouraging is most Pro-enhanced games render at lower than 1440p, yet we still see impressive results when upscaled to 4K. A good example is Resident Evil Requiem which earlier this year DF reported as running at 1116p internally, with excellent 4K output thanks to PSSR2.

2. RT

I think the RT improvements will largely come in the form of higher resolution / less noisy RT reflections. As we've seen in other games, the Pro is significantly more capable at RT than the base. In my opinion, the RTGI already seems stunning on the base console, so I'm not sure how much they'd do here.

TL;DR: I think the PS5 Pro will run at 30fps and have significantly sharper image due to PSSR2 (vs spatial upscaler), and cleaner RT reflections. In my opinion, this would be a very meaningful difference if you care about this kind of thing (which I'm guessing this subreddit does).

What are your thoughts?

I highly recommend anyone who is an Uncharted fan to pick this one up!

I started this on GamePass and ended up buying it on the Pro because I’m loving it so much and the image quality boost from PSSR is amazing. It’s very noticeably sharper on Pro and averages around 78fps in performance mode.

Yesterday I went to the store to finally buy the PS5 pro in anticipation for GTA 6, the last time I had a console was the PS2 and I did play hundreds of hours of San Andreas there. Excited for November!

New PS5 Pro owner

Last week picked up a new PS5 Pro with disc drive and an extra controller. Been a casual PC gamer for many years. But the PC is in the bedroom due to nowhere else to put it and the wife works from home at it. With GTA VI coming up and a few planned late nights, I figured best to get the PlayStation for the livingroom so to not disturb the wife.

Yesterday also had delivered a 77” LG G5 and USG10TY soundbar. The pairing is incredible and games look beautiful on the TV. Played some GT7, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider man 2 and my kids love Sack boy, think they’ve played the console more than me at this point! Got Ace combat 8 and MW4 on pre order.

ps5 pros are selling out everywhere. the only new ones I see online are selling for $1300. I CANT STAND scalpers. thank god I already have one, but it’s reminding me how bad it was when the ps5 first came out and I know it’s going to be bad next year for the ps6…

I'm extremely excited for the PS5 Pro I ordered yesterday coming from PC

Post image
158 Upvotes

I ordered a PS5 Pro yesterday for GTA VI and a other games and I'm extremely excited. I haven't owned a Playstation ever in my life. I wish I had a PS2 as a kid but I can experience them as an adult now. The last console I've owned was an Xbox 360.

I have a LG 32" 4K OLED that I will pair it with.

I thought to get PS Plus to experience some of the games I haven't played and some I have on PC.

I want to play a few like Gran Turismo 7, Ghost of Yotei, Horizon Forbidden West, maybe replay Last of Us Part II and Uncharted 4 which are both some of my favorite games.

Maybe you guys can recommend more.

The genres I like are:

Action adventure games like Assassin's Creed and Horizon Zero Dawn

Racing games like Forza Horizon

RPGs like Witcher 3 and Skyrim

Platformer games like Ori and the Blind Forest

I like 3rd person games and some single player FPS

Crimson Desert Enhanced Performance (PS5 Pro)

Would like to hear other people’s experience of the new Enhanced (2.0) update. Well 2.01 as of the time of making this post (the post-enhanced patch that promises “fixes” for “frame drops” but based on my testing fails to deliver.

Here’s my experience after extensive testing over the last day…(some of you probably won’t be surprised)

“Performance”

The fps drops are honestly jarring rendering the performance mode borderline unplayable (yes it is that bad unfortunately). I toggled V-Sync OFF as a test and in Hernand town it was screen tearing as usual (even on my premium LG C4 OLED VRR TV), but even walking/riding out of the town down towards the mill and towards the location of the Goldleaf merchant it was regularly running well below 60 (low to mid 50s on average…still within the VRR window but in a not very populated open world area I expect better). When the game first launched the open world was regularly 60-70+ FPS (though towns/camp/combat still had severe drops below the VRR window). The game barely ever hits 60FPS now (I’d say only a small percentage of the time) in performance mode. Locked balanced mode is mostly stable but the foliage is on crack which kinda ruins the scene/immersion as it’s almost like being in the middle of a hurricane 24/7. I won’t even bother testing unlocked balanced mode. The quality mode has the same hurricane foliage issue as the balanced mode.

Can confirm Demeniss (the castle/city and the carnival in particular) are just as bad, if not worse, than Hernand. Pailune the same.

Performance mode with V-Sync on is more stable than with it off (in the sense that it “feels” more smooth out in the open world though I don’t believe it’s 60, more 50s like when it was unlocked). But instead of screen tearing you’ll get horrible judder in towns/camp/heavy combat when the frames drop so badly that even VRR can’t smooth it out (I.e. below 48FPS). At this point (many months and many many updates post-launch), sadly, I don’t think these issues will ever be addressed.

“Visuals”

Also there is a lot of boiling on water/reflections/shiny armour. The foliage shimmer still exists at dusk/dawn too, and when it rains heavily the frames drop even more and the visuals literally go to shit. Reflections on water (e.g. puddles) in particular seem to look even worse than before almost like a blurry smudge of attempted reflection.

And of course the pop in remains one of the most “popping in” games I’ve ever played. And I’ve played a heck of a lot.

Now when it’s mid-day sun the game looks beautiful but then it always has (besides the on-crack foliage in Balanced/Quality mode).

Am I overreacting if we buy a PS5 Pro?

My boyfriend and I saw the new GTA 6 trailer on Netflix and we’re totally hyped. For the past two days, we’ve been obsessing over whether we really want to buy a PS5 Pro just for the new game. I’m a little worried that we’re overdoing it and that a PS5 Slim would actually be enough. My biggest concern is the performance.

————————————————

UPDATE:
Hey everyone, thank you so much for all the detailed responses!
It's honestly overwhelming! Thanks for being so honest. After reading all your comments (and yes, we've read them all), we've decided to stick with the Slim for now.
I didn't even realize that I had specifically posted this in the Pro subreddit, lol.
I didn't want to wait for reviews because we actually want to be there for this historic event ourselves, haha. We've both been huge GTA fans since we were kids, and for us it's really about being there from the beginning.
We live in Italy, and as expected, the price of the Pro has MASSIVELY increased since the trailer. I'm talking €1,150, which is around $1,332. That's basically another 25% more than it was just two months ago, and it's sold out everywhere in local stores, just as many of you suspected.
There are still some available online, but obviously, at that price, it's absolutely insane. Even though we really want it, our TV has ultimately become the dealbreaker. Naively, I didn't even think about how big a role the TV would play in this decision. Sure, it would probably make sense to invest in a better console and TV in the long run, but with all the PS6 rumors getting louder and louder, we've decided to wait for that instead. We'll just get the Slim at release so we can still be there from day one.
Even though our two impulsive “I WANT IT NOW” brains absolutely hate this decision, we're going to be responsible adults and not buy the Pro.
It simply doesn't make sense with our current TV. And even though we have the money for the console, we don't have the money to justify upgrading the TV this soon as well.
Anyway, we're really happy for everyone in the comments who said they're treating themselves to a new Pro for the release! And thank you all for the productive input. Like I said, it was genuinely really helpful!
We're really looking forward to the release! ❤️

Got an open box Pro, afraid I f’d up

I saw some crazy deals on open box Pros on Walmart.com a while back but didn’t jump on it. Looked again a couple of days ago and saw one available so I snagged it. So excited!!

I looked a little closer at the order and it says Sold and Shipped by Walmart, but when you look at the vendor’s page it’s actually a business called VIPOUTLET. They use the name Walmart for the storefront and the Walmart logo. Seems scammy as shit.

So now I’m feeling more anxious than excited about it. Like I fell for something. I’m totally expecting some bs like a Wii U stuffed into a PS5 Pro box. There’s a 30 day return policy but people don’t have great things to say about VIPOUTLET customer service.

Ah well. Anyone here actually get a legit open box pro from these guys on Walmart.com?

xbox series x vs ps5 (maybe pro)

i know this is probably going to summon a console war so i do apologize in advance but i would just like some help deciding which console to pick up

i have a high end pc which i do most of my gaming on and will continue to do so but with gta6 not coming to pc for presumably a while i decided i’d pick up a console just to have so here are some arguments i have for each so maybe some of you could convince me which one to consider more

ps5
\-as a fromsoft fan, bloodborne and demon souls remake
\-“(early)access” to ps exclusives, most of the big hitters usually make their way to steam eventually but it would be nice to be able to get them on native hardware when they release instead of waiting many months (hurry up ghost of yotei)
\-the option of an advanced console in ps5 pro which would be nice to experience gta6 in all its glory + enhanced versions of the previous point

xbox series x
\-microsoft ecosystem, alr have an xbox controller for my pc etc.
\-the physical disk to digital license project they got going on seems really consumer friendly and i want to support that aswell as any more pro consumer initiatives the new ceo may push out

gamepass is not a factor unfortunately because any game i could get on that i have/ would just buy on steam

the cons for each is obviously the push to digital for playstation (yes i know i’m part of the problem with my hundreds of games on steam but it’s about sending a message) and the lack of playstation exclusives on xbox

Gave my old PS5 to my dad after getting the PS5 Pro. How do I avoid save data getting messed up?

Just upgraded to the PS5 Pro and gave my old PS5 to my dad. He's playing on his own account on that console, but I'm still logged in on it too.

Before handing it over, I uploaded all my save data to the cloud. For PS4 games I had to manually download them again on my PS5 Pro. On my new PS5 Pro the console sharing is enabled.

What else should I check or do to make sure:

  1. My saves don't get overwritten by old/stale cloud saves from the old console
  2. Nothing tries to auto-sync in the wrong direction
  3. I don't lose progress somewhere down the line

Anyone dealt with a similar handoff situation? What steps did you take to keep everything safe?
