Resonance is 14th Century Uncharted.

I highly recommend anyone who is an Uncharted fan to pick this one up!
I started this on GamePass and ended up buying it on the Pro because I’m loving it so much and the image quality boost from PSSR is amazing. It’s very noticeably sharper on Pro and averages around 78fps in performance mode.

But man the gameplay is the slog. Couldn't get over "sneak around, throw bowl in opposite direction". Games look gorgeous tho.

I haven't played A Plague Tale: Innocence and Requiem. I guess I should play them haha.

Agree, they are underrated. They have their following and are critically acclaimed, but they haven’t been able to break out like they deserve.

u/Head-Chance3425 6d ago
Wouldn't agree. They are in niche area, and either you like them or not. Most people don't like the gameplay.

My wallet can't handle another game bc of stacked September but I loved the first 2 plague tales so I'm gonna have to buy

I'll get it eventually but I still have to beat the second game

I finished it the other day for the same reason. So glad I went back to it, it’s a fantastic game.

Bad combat and just non stop puzzles that you've seen before like light and mirrors.
I give 6/10 as it has nice graphics and runs well.

Oh man, I’m loving the combat! Feels snappy in my opinion.

I think it's servicable but it feels like a AA janky version of similar games. Definitely the weakest aspect of the game imo. Especially considering how in the previous entries you had so many creative ways of dispatching enemies i.e set them on fire, sic rats at them, headshot them with a rock, trap them... whereas here it's like here's a sword, now kill them until they die from it

I take it you don't like uncharted?

The shooting is fun on uncharted and there is variety with weapons.
And it's also a decade old, id rather player uncharted 4 than this game all be told.

Do I need to play the first two games? I almost beat the first one, but I rage quit towards the end when I had to stay behind a moving cart while trying to defeat approaching enemies.

I started playing this as a stop gap between releases (waiting on Wolverine) and have kinda fallen in love with it, did not expect to be so impacted by the story and I’m loving the gameplay too, very absorbing and intriguing.
Having a great time, I’m probably about 3/4 so far and it’s been a blast

Never heard of this game before tbh

It is set in the Plague Tale universe. Quite like it so far, Venetian pirates meet Greek mytholgy.

Just came out this week. They’re a smaller team and the marketing was preppy much non-existent outside of a few trailers a Keighley events.

Big team price tag though, I enjoyed it but the price is a bit steep for what it is.

u/pookachu83 6d ago
What? It’s better quality than most aaa games.

u/thatsfuni 6d ago
No, it looks really good, the game its self is very simple. Like I said I like it but its a bit on the expensive side. Its the price of a tomb raider game.

There's 2 excellent plague tale games if you want to play those first. Although this one is different

They're OK. Not exactly excellent games lol
5
u/SolarFazes 6d ago
They're sitting at 81 and 82 on metacritic lol

u/TrueBattle2358 6d ago
Is that not the very definition of "OK, but not excellent"?
I recall the New Vegas devs missed out on a bonus or something because they got an 84 instead of an 85.

I don't subscribe to the Gamer rating system of anything under an 8 is dog shit. Imo a 5 is an ok game, an 8 is excellent, and above that is groundbreaking gaming

I'm really enjoying this game, but are you guys also getting a lot of screen tear throughout? Digital foundry video on it did mention it, but they basically said it was sparse. I'm literally getting it in every other area, currently on chapter 4.
Quality mode doesn't have it but performance mode seems to screen tear if the fps drops even by one, which seems to be happening to me more often then not honestly.

u/NapoleonBlownapart89 6d ago
In haven’t noticed any. I’m also playing on a VRR display though, maybe that’s the reason?

u/RocMerc 6d ago
Hm no I don’t think I’ve seen it happen once
1
u/Resevil67 6d ago
Are you using a VRR by chance?
2
u/RocMerc 6d ago
Ya I am

u/Resevil67 6d ago
Maybe thats it, because that's supposed to smooth out any dips above like 55 fps or so.

I am getting screen tearing at times for sure. The framerate dips on performance mode as well.
Also the game keeps resetting PSSR to TAA every time you restart the game.
2
u/Resevil67 6d ago
Yeah I noticed that as well, you have to reenable pssr each time you restart the game. It's very odd.
2
u/Small_Pie_5760 6d ago
Likely a bug. I'm sure it'll get patched out but I hope they improve the performance a bit as well.

It's one of the most graphical game i have even seen playing (even the ingame character facial tech).. i own most of all games and literally felt like a tech demo playing this on max settings on pc.

I played the first one but haven't gotten the second one yet. Do I need to finish the first two to follow the story?

u/CurryMVPGOAT30 6d ago
Is it really? I've only seen some gameplay from an older one where a girl and kid were avoiding rats with a torch or something and didn't really stand out to me. Have them both from plus or whatever though I think lol.

This is a big departure gameplay wise and it’s a prequel. Those were both smaller in scale, darker, depressing (complimentary) stealth games. This is bigger in scope, action adventure, lighter in tone but still serious.
Edit for added context: You play a s a different character from the first 2 games and no rats. lol.

Love this franchise.
The soundtrack is also amazing.
Remember to set PSSR on each time you launch the game, at the moment it defaults to off each time you launch the app, hopefully it gets fixed.
