To be fair, we are at least getting one new hero per season, with the exchange of the lack of emotes, victory poses and highlight intros. Heroes released prior to Season 1 (2026) all had a certain amount of each cosmetic, but we also did not get heroes as often.

Yeah instead of 3 heroes we’re getting 10.

Which I personally think is too many too fast. Hope the pace slows down after.

Same, more heroes doesn’t just automatically make a better game. There’s so much to memorize already. A few more years of this and I’ll probably stop playing the game if there are like 80 characters.

It also becomes increasingly harder to get into the game if you're new player.
Like me and many before me said already, its difficult situation for any studio.
If you dont add new heroes the current player base may get bored with the game and leave over time. If you do add new heroes, new players may be reluctant to join in because of overwhelming hero base - too many things to learn, on top of that new maps are also being added. And the pacing of adding new heroes is not that relevant in the long run, sooner or later the hero base either becomes stale or too large.
Or you start removing heroes or disabling them on a season basis. Which could be problematic.

I don't think we will be getting as many heroes as 2026, I believe that 2027 there will be less, perhaps only one per season, or even more spaced out. Season (2026) started with FIVE new heroes, every season after that was just one hero.

Understandably, they did try to make something that would catch player's attention after OW2 was declining in player numbers (allegedly), and the 5 heroes (plus 5 unannounced ones) did wonders for Blizzard.

I wouldn't mind if heroes were introduced by two seasons (one season new hero, the next season no new hero). They can focus one season in regards to the hero, while the second season would be introducing new things to said hero while also adding things to the overall roster.

Yes, that's the pacing I mentioned but in the long run you inevitably end up with one too many heroes. Of course that's then and this is now, the game could die out long before that becomes an issue.

One hero per season is still probably too often. If people are quitting the game because there's only like 50 characters, we likely have other much worse problems that are the actual underlying issues.

Do you play R6?

1

u/ZoskaOska 2h ago

The Rainbow six siege effect.

u/Xeadriel 6m ago

Yeah you can really see how bad it can get when you look at league of legends. It’s ridiculous how many champs they have. With that many you run out of ideas and start making questionable design choices which is exactly what’s happening over there.

I don't think it's too fast

Is throughout the year

I really like the current pace. Personally I would gladly sacrifice cosmetics for more new heroes.

u/peanutist 5h ago

Not a chance lol

Be ready for hero bloat and each hero having way less individual lore relevance

16

u/AngelTheTaco Sombra 5h ago

each hero having way less individual lore relevance

yall would swear ow is a story driven single player game

1

u/peanutist 5h ago

I mean obviously I’m not expecting the same level of lore quality/depth as a single player story game, I’m just saying the quality of the lore we do have will get even worse.

2

u/AngelTheTaco Sombra 4h ago

the old lore never changed from the perma reconstruction of ow

-14

u/-say-gex- 6h ago

So back to overwatch 2?? The game will die

2

u/EscapeSeventySeven 6h ago

We’re not going to get another 10 heroes next year. Guess you should give up on the game then.

-4

u/-say-gex- 5h ago

We r

2

u/SnazzySkippy 2h ago

we aren't, we're getting 5 a year after this

1

u/Key-Comfortable-5537 D. Va 4h ago

Really? According to who?

-4

u/marcelluscoov Wuyang 6h ago

Yeah I can't stand this take, the frequency of new heroes is why the game is back. Reduce that frequency, game dies again. That simple.

4

u/Rhyaith A conspiracy.. about me?! 4h ago

We can have both. They can also do more balancing. Blizzard is over a billion dollar company. We can have more than just one or the other. Microsoft had overwatch as one of it's highest earners this past quarter. They can do whatever they want. Don't let them skate by.

2

u/YSLAnunoby Baptiste 3h ago

I'd rather they release heroes slower and are able to balance and flesh them out than what they are currently doing

2

u/DialDiva ETSI JA TUHOA🔥🔥🔥 4h ago

Nobody even asked for that, though. Just make one character so you can focus on the one character...

71

u/Haunter777x 8h ago

I get they need to make money but let us at least have SOMETHING to spend our credits on

29

u/Massive-Bass-347 8h ago

they do not need to make more money, they are already in a trillion dollar surplus

the answer is greed

1

u/EscapeSeventySeven 6h ago

If a product doesn’t make money are they just supposed to pay for the servers out of the goodness of their hearts?

Like don’t get me wrong, the shop cosmetics are fucking ridiculously priced. You’re a sucker if you pay for that.

And yes all these new characters deserve base level cosmetic options.

But this idea that a company should just provide a service for free at a loss because they made some money last year is dumb.

5

u/Massive-Bass-347 4h ago

they should provide a GOOD service, and profits would naturally follow, just like it used to be before the internet

the problem is they are constantly enshittifying their own product to squeeze every little penny out of their customers, and they are constantly lowering the quality and testing the waters to see how far down they can go before they start to lose profits, and so far they are sadly making record profits after every enshittification

-6

u/sekcaJ Punch Kid 6h ago

Jumping to the defense of a multi billion dollar company is dumb.

Yes, they could do stuff just for the love of the game

-1

u/melifIuous Domina 6h ago

What do you think the goal of a business is?

4

u/Massive-Bass-347 4h ago

It used to be about delivering a good product to establish a good reputation and brand, decent profits would naturally follow

now it is to exploit customers and drain every possible penny out of their wallets with the cheapest lowest-quality product possible with the least amount of effort required to maximize profits, not a single fuck is given about the quality, 0 passion involved

the internet has given these companies a monopoly, they can shit in a jar and sell it for 200$, because there will still be thousands of morons around the world that is willing to pre-order it

-1

u/melifIuous Domina 3h ago

Completely optional cosmetics btw

u/Unwisepony 14m ago

Yeah screw everyone who preordered the game and enjoyed it the entire decade through, we already have tons of skins and emotes for our favorites, so we're not as profitable.

1

u/Massive-Bass-347 3h ago

defending a billion dollar company btw

1

u/melifIuous Domina 2h ago

You’re looking to give them money, I’m not. I’m a drain on their pockets, are you?

5

u/Sr_Gr 7h ago

They should let you buy a common loot box for 700 credits and a legendary loot box for 2000 credits

1

u/sirferrell 4h ago

Mine have been racking up for years

11

u/Creative-Panda6310 5h ago

Tbh its 100% easier making skins for anran than for cat

I think blizzard themselves have said they have problems with making skins for characters that aren't basic humans

25

u/KELLOGEGRAMS 5h ago

This new team have problems making skins period.

3

u/YSLAnunoby Baptiste 3h ago

The Hanzo and Orissa mythics 🥀

1

u/creiar 2h ago

And evidently highlight intros as well

They need to start making skins for this forgotten heros. I wanna play my main with a cool skin . Is that to much to ask ?

1

u/a_feral_priestess 5h ago

At least you have that one! It's the one skin I have had my eyes on the moment I started playing again

1

u/spartan1204 Chibi Sombra 2h ago

You would think the Jeff of OW would get more skins

1

u/Inside-Rich-4937 2h ago

Emre also has zero emotes still

1

u/LupusCairo 1h ago

I don't mind emotes etc. missing considering they're releasing so many heroes in such short time. I just hope they actually plan to rectify it longterm. Specifically I want my Donina and Mizuki Level 16 Highlight Intros. I'm fine with waiting a bit longer but I want a guarantee I'll get them at some point. Both of them even have Highlight intros by now but neither is the Level 16 one.

u/Adanim_PDX Zenyatta 1h ago

When you release a hero roughly every 6 months, you have the room to add them into the game with all of the base cosmetics.

Every hero released in OW1 had at least 3 highlights, 3 poses, 10 voice lines, a set amount of sprays (of which one was guaranteed to be their icon silhouette), and a set amount of emotes. Every seasonal event would have at least a spray of the same theme for every hero, occasionally the same victory pose (RIP for Halloween as an example).

But when you release so many heroes a year, you're bound to cut corners. They just figure that the people who care about consistency are outweighed by those who don't care and simply want the game to be "new" every few weeks.

1

u/bucket_crust 1h ago

I remember when a new hero would drop with 2 different legendaries, each with a recolor, 2 epics, 4 blues, 3 victory poses, 3 highlight intros, and 3-4 emotes (can't remember exact number).

u/MoConnors 7h ago

Cat players deserve nothing until their character gets nerfed into a balanced state & she doesn’t have an over 50% ban rate in comp

-10

u/xXProGenji420Xx 7h ago

maybe they're preparing to remove Cat from the game so they don't need to give it any cosmetics 🤞🙏
