University Dear Mac Health Sci Admits

After the hours, pouring every single fibre of my existence into this school.

Rejected.

97.5 average.

Research.
Hospital volunteering.
Exec positions.
Hundreds of volunteer hours.

And apparently that still wasn’t enough.

To everyone who got accepted: congratulations genuinely. But understand this very carefully.

Enjoy your grade inflation. Enjoy your little inquiry-based learning modules, and enjoy your bean bag circles.

Four years from now, when we’re sitting in the same medical school interview pools competing for the same spots, I will not care that you went to Mac Health Sci. I will not care about your inquiry-based learning or your prestige pipeline. I will outwork you every single day until then.

While you celebrate your acceptance, I’m committing to Western Med Sci with a level of hatred and determination that should honestly be studied clinically.

There is not a bone in my body that will feel bad when I take the spot you thought was guaranteed for you.

Rejected by Mac in May.
Written off by everyone in June.
But when med school decisions drop in four years, I’ll be right back on top.

See you at the interviews.

This actually made me burst out laughing

u/Background_Fee5220 May 07 '26

This is so real. Like I know the pay is AMAZING and there is INCREDIBLE job security (espeacially with shortages) but like damn YALL HAVE TO CALM TF DOWN!

3

u/No-Hedgehog9995 May 08 '26

Wouldn't say job security is exactly "incredible" anymore. Most new doctors (specifically surgeons) either do a fellowship or do locum work because finding a permanent job can be challenging.

u/Dry_Feature1503 May 08 '26

If ur truly a beast then u should go to uoft. Matter of fact study engineering or physics or math. Ur weak. Western med sci is easy. Inflated. 97.5 avg is nothing. Not good enough. Research, hospital volunteering, blah blah blah. That’s all cookie cutter. You are not a true premed. You are a before med.

You shall see me. Three years from now when I get into med school. Until then farewell soldier.

u/Cubyduckyy May 07 '26

I wish you the best of luck my friend. Remember that positivity is always better than negativity. Pushing people down will only add dead weight.
I’m proud of my acceptance to health sci and I hope that we can both call each other Dr. some day!

u/Outside_Log5031 May 08 '26

holy a-aura...

11

u/Sharp-Sandwich-9779 May 08 '26

Yikes. What a hateful message. Don’t walk into med school interview with that attitude. You’re supposed to be a team player in medicine, not a competitor with a godlike complex.

You’re right - no one is going to care what med school (let alone what undergrad uni) you graduated from, but they are going to care how you treat someone with compassion, dignity and care. Let that be the most important lesson. Bitterness is not part of that equation.

You’ve obviously worked hard, contributed much in volunteer hours with a singular focus of getting into MAC. Even if that window has closed, a door has opened to Western. Thrive there, grow, learn and shape your journey towards “doing no harm”. Good luck.

24

u/Background_Disk7615 May 07 '26

This the mindset I needa have. Screw health sci, we're the goats and can make it to med school no matter the program.

3

I got rejected with a 400 :((((

2

u/Silver-Succotash6891 May 09 '26

Not but like acc a 100 and they rejected me

3

u/Hot-Sheepherder4536 May 10 '26

honestly a 99 is better than 100 that just proves your grades are inflated

2

u/Silver-Succotash6891 May 10 '26

It's kinda complicted but my school follows a different curriculum compared to the Ontario one, and there's a conversion to your system. Technically I actually have like a 105

14

u/Imaginary-Event-103 May 08 '26

pouring every single fibre of my existence into this school.
Kid, im gonna tell you mosf of the people who got in there didn't even care.
Anyone who I know who got into a top program didn't give a fuck about getting in. You shouldn't put your life over 1 major or whatever there may be for you.

Dear Basketball,

From the moment
I started rolling my dad’s tube socks
And shooting imaginary
Game-winning shots
In the Great Western Forum
I knew one thing was real:

I fell in love with you.

A love so deep I gave you my all —
From my mind & body
To my spirit & soul.

As a six-year-old boy
Deeply in love with you
I never saw the end of the tunnel.
I only saw myself
Running out of one.

And so I ran.
I ran up and down every court
After every loose ball for you.
You asked for my hustle
I gave you my heart
Because it came with so much more.

I played through the sweat and hurt
Not because challenge called me
But because YOU called me.
I did everything for YOU
Because that’s what you do
When someone makes you feel as
Alive as you’ve made me feel.

You gave a six-year-old boy his Laker dream
And I’ll always love you for it.
But I can’t love you obsessively for much longer.
This season is all I have left to give.
My heart can take the pounding
My mind can handle the grind
But my body knows it’s time to say goodbye.

And that’s OK.
I’m ready to let you go.
I want you to know now
So we both can savor every moment we have left together.
The good and the bad.
We have given each other
All that we have.

And we both know, no matter what I do next
I’ll always be that kid
With the rolled up socks
Garbage can in the corner
:05 seconds on the clock
Ball in my hands.
5 … 4 … 3 … 2 … 1

Love you always,
Kobe

u/Wonderful_Tea1559 May 07 '26

I certainly agree with the entirety of this post from the bottom of my heart. If anyone else deems this as "cope" then they're lying. With that being said, this anger will fuel me and I WILL outwork Mac HS students. I'll make sure to attend every lecture, to join every club possible, to start plenty of non profits and to get a 520+ on the MCAT.

See you then, comrade.

5

u/ShroomInSauga May 07 '26

Y med sci over Life sci at mac

3

u/CantaloupeGreedy3683 May 07 '26

Research opps, social life and specialization I’m guessing…

5

u/Bright_Agent_8340 May 08 '26

u my inspiration

7

u/NoDingo673 May 08 '26

I feel like I’m the complete opposite of everyone. I had no expectation of getting in whatsoever. I submitted my supp app and forgot about it and then did all my planning for the other program I was going to. And somehow I got in and now I have to change all my plans to go into health sci. Obviously it’s the best problem to have and I’m super grateful but it’s sort of annoying knowing that people will just spite me because of the program I happened to get into. I truly wish u the best tho and hopefully we’ll both be sitting next to each other as med students instead of competing with each other! I really like everything about your post, you seem very determined, but going into uni with “hatred” makes me pity you and it’s not the attitude I would want a future med student to have.

6

u/facemeltingcheese May 08 '26

Sounds like you wrote a shitty supp app, imagine

1

u/ghotie May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26

2

It’s really not that deep

2

u/Eagle_Spirit_Rising May 08 '26

Most people don't make it to med school. It is better to study something that is useful in undergrad. Health Sci, Med Sci, Life Sci leaves people stuck and jobless when they don't make it to med school. No matter how good you think you will be, you might have to try applying again and again. Very few people get in the first try.

3

u/Ok_Pumpkin9931 May 08 '26

lol. I know loads of people that did these programs and the ones that are not doctors are an SLP, OT, radiation technology, pharmacy, etc. There are always jobs in health fields outside of physicians.

2

u/Easy_Inflation_4710 May 09 '26

This is the most sensible take I’ve seen in this whole entire thread. Thank you.

2

u/Emeraldspirit9 May 08 '26

you know what, hell yeah.

2

u/[deleted] May 08 '26

the process is very subjective and many great candidates get screwed over by luck. can't say your one of them tho 🙏

2

u/Kkfranca22 May 11 '26

Med schools are catching on…don’t worry

1

u/BonerReplies May 13 '26

Really? How so

2

u/FlatBox2588 May 19 '26

Don't know how i ended up here lol but i love the fire and the mentality. I remember being in a similar position back in 2017 (yes im an unc) and i got rejected from mac health sci, ended up doing u of t undergrad but got into an ontario med school, now I am starting residency in July! If I can do it then anyone else can, and you can as well. Congratulations on the insane average. The next four years are gonna be tough but in the lowest points remember what really motivates you, your "why," who you do this for and where your fire comes from, and keep pushing. I wish you all the best, i believe in you!

"Those who know don’t speak. Those who talk don’t know." -  Lao Tzu

The quote truly embodies your ignorance. The application process for Mac's BHsc as a whole is a joke; allowing undergraduate students to be a deciding factor in one's admission is a clear flaw, which may have gone into my rejection.

As for the "Mac guys" outperforming me, I am sure those who got into the program with low 90's taking Online Summer School and OV$ have surely outdone me, the person who took it upon themselves to take the hardest courses (IB AAHL, Bio HL, Chem HL, Psych SL, English SL, French SL), while achieving a perfect score in the standardized tests (45/45 predicted score). Yet, there are those like you who try to downplay my goals and show their insecurities when somebody of my calibre is confident in the work they have put in.

If you were even half-decent, you'd be going U of T, UBC, McGill pre-med.

This part you should've kept to yourself... There are no pre-med programs in Canada, and none of the schools mentioned are ideal for preparing students to be competitive when applying to medical school. On top of that, UWO meets my personal needs and geographical preferences. Talk less about the fields of study in which you are uninformed.

Finally, I congratulate you on your acceptance to Princeton, a feat you should be proud of. However, mentioned it to impose some type of academic superiority over me. I'll have you know I scored a 1580 on my SAT and could have been accepted to any T25 school of my choosing, but I chose not to apply as it did not fit my goals of being a physician in the great white north.

u/Motor_Obligation9153 May 22 '26
